The Southeast of Saline girl’s basketball team continued their recent run of dominance with a 60-34 beatdown of the Ellsworth Bearcats on Friday.
In their last two league contests, the Lady Trojans have outscored their opponents 123-46, tightening their stranglehold on the NCAA at a perfect 5-0.
This win also marked the 19th straight league victory for SES, with a chance to make it a clean 20 against Sacred Heart next week.
Once again, Southeast flew out of the gates, finding the freedom to knock down six three-pointers outside the Ellsworth zone to take a 20-point lead into halftime.
“If people are going to play us in a zone we’re going to sit out and shoot those three balls,” SES head coach Shauna Smith said.
Southeast continued to pour it on in the second half, tacking on 23 more before the final whistle in yet another blowout victory.
The Lady Trojans were led by Karsyn Schlesener and Avery Caselman tonight with 13 and 12 respectively.
Little by little, Caselman has developed into one of the most well-rounded players on an already deep SES roster.
“As a freshman, Avery was a bit of a defensive liability but she’s really developed into a complete player for us,” Smith said. “She rebounds, she can bring the ball up the floor, and tonight we even had her guarding their post.”
While Ellsworth fought to slow the pace tonight, the Trojans remained relentless, forcing the Bearcats to play their game.
“Sometimes it pays to be patient but we wanted to keep the scoring and tempo up,” she said. “I thought we did a really good job of finding extra passes to set up open shooters.”
It was another ruthlessly efficient night for the SES as the defense turned Ellsworth over 21 times while surrendering just four of their own.
The Lady Trojans will be back in action next week with a Tuesday matchup at Sacred Heart, and a Friday home game against Chapman.
