Silk to donkeys, military to merchants – all traveled the Santa Fe Trail during its short life.
Join Steve Schmidt for a historical overview of the Santa Fe Trail during the Smoky Hill Museum's free First Thursday Zoom presentation. The program is scheduled for 5:30-6:30 p.m. Thursday.
To register for the presentation, go to the museum's website.
Schmidt is scheduled to discuss the Santa Fe Trail's beginning 200 years ago, how it played a key role in international events, influenced the global economy, and more. Learn who traveled the trail, who didn’t, and why. Schmidt also will share how the Santa Fe Trail was uniquely different from other 19th century trails and how it ended.
Schmidt is an amateur historian, former president of the Cottonwood Crossing Chapter of the Santa Fe Trail Association (SFTA), author, and retired civil engineer.
