KWU women's tennis beats Bethany, falls to Baker

Kansas Wesleyan women's tennis split its two matches this weekend, beating Bethany 7-0 on Saturday in Lindsborg, and falling to Baker 5-2 on Sunday in Lawrence.

It was a clean sweep for the Coyotes against Bethany.

KWU won all three doubles matches to win the doubles point, then posted six straight set wins in singles play to take the match 7-0.

In doubles, Karley Benson (SO/Salina, Kan.) and Michaela Crowe (FR/Overland Park, Kan.) beat Sydney Carrasco and Jordyn Trombley 6-1; Zofia Selwesiuk (SO/Wroclaw, Poland) and Savannah Noel (SO/Portis, Kan.) beat Lauren Crotinger and Lexi Neel 6-3; and Makenzie Archer (FR/McPherson, Kan.) and Brianna Mendoza (JR/Balch Springs, Texas) beat Kiara Sweat and Gracie Gaskill 6-1.

In singles, Benson beat Carrasco 6-2, 6-1; Crowe beat Sweat 6-1, 6-1; Selwesiuk beat Crotinger 6-1, 6-1; Archer beat Neel 6-1, 6-3; Mendoza beat Trombley 6-0, 6-3; and Noel beat Gaskill 6-1, 6-0.

Against Baker, the Coyotes would fall to the Wildcats 5-2 in the match.

Baker would win two of the three doubles matches and four of the six singles matches.

In doubles Kayelee Smith and Cortlyn Wolfe would beat Benson and Crowe 6-3. KWU won the No. 2 flight as Archer and Selwesiuk beat Patricia and Josephine Moore 6-0. Baker won the No. 3 flight via forfeit as KWU was down a player.

In singles, Benson won her second match of the weekend, beating Smith 6-4, 6-4; and Archer beat Josephine Moore 6-2, 6-1. Baker won the other matches as Wolfe beat Crowe 6-2, 6-2; Patricia Moore beat Selwesiuk on an injury retirement; Weathers beat Noel 6-4, 6-3; and Baker won the No. 6 flight via forfeit.

The Coyotes will return to action on Saturday, hosting McPherson at the Salina Country Club in the regular season finale.
