
John Robert Somers Sr. passed away on February 19, 2026 at his home In Minneapolis, Kansas, surrounded by the people he loved most.
John was born in Ottawa County Kansas and affectionately called "Johnnie". His parents were Robert and Ethel (Sinklier) Somers. In April 13, 1967, he married Marcia Kay Hood, and she preceded him in death on April 16, 2020.
John grew up in Ottawa County Kansas, later moving his family to Texas and Missouri before retiring back home to Ottawa County Kansas.
John was a devoted member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Salina, Kansas. John deeply loved his church family and looked forward to visits from them in the last days of his life. John had an extraordinary love of God and expressed that in his last moments.
John worked several jobs throughout his life. Most notably as a long haul truck driver. John was a hard worker and great provider. He sacrificed time with his family to spend long hours on the road to support them.
John's proudest titles were that of "Dad" and "Bepa". He loved his children and adored his grandchildren.
John was an avid fan of the Kansas City Chiefs and the Kansas City Royals. The love of sports he passed to his children.
John was proceeded in death by his wife; his parents; brothers - Cecil, Tommy, Jerry, Jack; Sisters - June and Susie.; granddaughters Melanie and Angel Somers and grandson Kelly Masters. His loved and pampered dogs Duke and Duchess.
Survivors include his children: Brenda (Denis) Masters; John Somers II, Mindi (Matt Herring) Somers, Michelle (Tasha David) Somers. Grandchildren: Masen, Clay (Sierra) and Karli Bruce; Paeton and Jayden Adamson; Teagan, Alycen and Londyn Lovelace; Derek (Bethany), Shelby and Madison Masters; Amanda (Andrew) McRae; Makenna Maxwell; and 8 great grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.
A visitation will be held from 11-1 p.m., Tuesday, February 23, 2026, at the Seventh-Day Adventist Church, 834 N 11th St, Salina, prior to the funeral service beginning at 1 p.m. Burial will follow at the Fairview Cemetery, Ada, KS.
