The Southeast of Saline Trojan basketball team picked up a crucial third straight win tonight 86-50 over the Ellsworth Bearcats.
With this win SES advances to 7-5 on the year, handing Ellsworth just their third loss of the season.
The Bearcats got out to an early lead but SES responded with a 26-7 run to close out the half and never looked back, pouring on points out of the break.
Jaxson Gebhardt led the way tonight for the Trojans with a new career high 25 points, many of which came in transition which was a theme across the board for Southeast.
“Jaxson kept us in it on both sides of the floor early on and once the others settled in and it was fantastic basketball,” SES head coach Bryson Flax said. “The guys are playing really well together.”
Coach Flax said before the game that his team would need to make Ellsworth uncomfortable and the Trojans did just that, forcing 20 turnovers and finding quick, easy buckets on the other end.
“When you’re that good defensively the bucket really opens up for you,” he said. “We did a great job of finishing plays in transition and we really got great looks.”
Southeast of Saline also flashed their depth tonight, with 11 different players finding the scoresheet, and every one of them playing just as good on the defensive end.
“Ellsworth is a good basketball team and if you let them play at a slower pace they’re going to be dangerous,” he said. “But we have the luxury of having 8-9 guys who are willing to defend all 90 feet.”
SES has now won six of it’s last seven, and has won its last three by a combined margin of victory of 106 points.
The Trojans will look to keep the ball rolling when they face 5-3 Sacred Heart next Tuesday.
