MANHATTAN, Kan. – (14/15) K-State saw its home win streak halted at 17, as (17/22) Baylor downed the Wildcats, 79-62, at Bramlage Coliseum on Monday night.
K-State (25-5, 13-4 Big 12) was paced by senior guard and All-America candidate Serena Sundell with 20 points on 10-of-19 shooting, four rebounds, three assists and three steals.
Senior forward Kennedy Taylor made her 10th start of the season and registered 16 points on 5-of-7 shooting and a 6-of-8 effort from the charity stripe and paced the Wildcats on the glass with seven rebounds.
Baylor (25-5, 15-2) saw four players reach double figures and were led by Aaronette Vonleh with 24 points, 12 rebounds, three blocks and two steals.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Baylor held a 36-26 lead at halftime, boosted by a 6-of-16 (.375) effort from long range. The Bears would lead by as much as 13, 32-19, in the opening half. K-State cut the margin to nine, 34-25, with 3:13 remaining in the second quarter but went the final 5:31 of the quarter without a made field goal.
- K-State outscored Baylor, 13-7 in the first five and a half minutes of the third quarter to pull to within four, 43-39, with 4:35 remaining. Taylor paced the Wildcats during the stretch with six points.
- The Bears used an 11-2 run to build a 54-41 lead with 1:27 remaining in the third quarter. The Wildcats were able to pull within 11, 56-45, at the end of the frame as Imani Lester knocked down a jumper.
- After a Sundell layup to open the fourth quarter brought the Wildcats to within nine, 56-47, Baylor scored five straight to up the margin to 14, 61-47, with 7:56 left.
- The Bears would hold K-State without a made field goal for a four-minute stretch and expand its lead to 19, 73-54, with 3:13 remaining.
- The Wildcats shot 42.1 percent (24-of-57) but were held to a season-low 13.3 percent (2-of-15) from 3-point range.
- Baylor shot 43.3 percent (29-of-67) including 39.3 percent (11-of-28) from 3-point range.
