After two years of construction, the Saline County Jail is nearly ready to be unveiled to the public.
The ceremonial ribbon-cutting event will take place at the new jail, 800 E. Pacific Avenue on Oct. 31 at 9:00 a.m.
City of Salina and Saline County officials and members of the public are invited to attend.
"The ribbon cutting will kick off a week of exciting events, " said Saline County Administrator Phillip Smith-Haynes. "We're going to host the Kansas Sheriffs Association at the new jail, we will also have a Business After-Hours event with the Salina Area Chamber of Commerce and we have sold out our Slumber in the Slammer event where people get to spend the night in a bunk. We will also have public tours on Saturday."
In addition to the ribbon-cutting event on Halloween, the Sheriff's Office will host open house tours on Nov. 4 from 1 - 3 p.m. and 6 - 8 p.m.
Sheriff Soldan said he is looking forward to getting moved over to the new facility.
"I'm looking forward to having all the inmates transported over there safely and I am excited about the additional space we get in the new jail for our correction officers," Soldan said. "Access to break rooms, natural lighting, and locker space for personal items are all things that I believe will help us retain employees and improve our workplace environment."
