Leonard William ‘Pat’ Short was born in Austin, TX, to William and Libby (Brown) Short, March 17, 1935. He passed away January 26, 2022, at the age of 86 years.
He served in the U.S. Navy for over 20 years, retiring June 30, 1974, as a Chief Warrant Officer 3. While serving he received multiple honors including:
National Defense Service Medal; Good Conduct 3 Stars; Meritorious Unit Commendation; Navy
Achievement Medal; Vietnam Service Medal 5 Stars; Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal;
Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal 1 Star.
Leonard was united in marriage to Darla Noreen (Edwards) Short. Together they adopted their son, Shannon Scott Short.
Leonard is survived by his wife Darla of Belleville, KS; sons Shannon Short (Kendra) of Belleville, KS; Larry (Vicki) Stevens, Salina, KS; James Michael Short, Salina, KS; and Leonard Wayne Short, Los Angeles, CA; daughters Debbie (Chad) Magazine, Salina, KS; Sharon (Patrick) Perry, Pattison, TX, and Sharold (Leroy) McMillan, Salina, KS.
sisters Sherry Storm, Eureka, MT, and Daisy Saunders, Sequin, TX.
Grandchildren Brandon Magazine, Kansas City, KS; Hilary Prinz, Galveston, TX; Hunter Perry, Lakewood, CO; Nicholas Sundararaj, Houston, TX; Jessica (Brandon) Lauria, Las Vegas, NV; Tonio Lee (Nikki) Stevens, Salina, KS; Levi, Jamal, Cerissa, Lashan McMillan, Salina, KS.
Great-grandchildren Carter Patrick, Grayson Scott & Emersyn Rose Short, Belleville, KS. Kaydence Gracie and Isabella Irene Lauria, Las Vegas, NV. Jayde, Tarik, Madison, and Ava Grace Stevens, Salina, KS.
Cremation was selected with a private family graveside inurnment service at Belleville Cemetery, with military honors by the U.S. Navy Honor Guard to be held at a later date.
