A police K-9 was deployed in the arrest of a Salina man after a high-speed pursuit through part of the city Sunday night.
Officers were sent to the area of Illinois Street and Merrill Street at approximately 9:50 p.m. Sunday for the report of a disturbance. On their way to the reported incident, they were advised that a male had kicked in the front door of a residence, Salina Police Captain Paul Forrester reported this morning. An altercation allegedly occurred between the man and a woman, with the man allegedly threatening the woman.
An officer arrived and observed a red Chevrolet Cobalt backing out of the driveway of a residence in the 700 block of Merrill. The vehicle struck the garage door, causing damage, Forrester noted. The Cobalt fled eastbound on Illinois Street and a pursuit ensued.
The maximum speed was 85 mph in a 30 mph zone as the pursuit headed east on Cloud Street. The pursuit was then terminated due to the excessive speed, according to Forrester.
A few minutes later, the car was located on Schippel Drive, and the driver was seen exiting the vehicle and fleeing on foot, Forrester reported.

A police K-9 was deployed and the driver, identified as Kendall Pickering, 38, of Salina, was taken into custody on the south side of New Horizons Dental Care, 1920 S. Ohio Street.
According to Forrester, officers allegedly located a meth pipe and digital scales in the Cobalt.
Pickering was arrested on the following requested charges, Forrester noted.
●Flee and elude
●Possession of a stimulant
●Felony interference
●Possession of drug paraphernalia
●Duty to report an accident with property damage
●Reckless driving
●Multiple traffic offenses
Additionally, Pickering had an active felony warrant from Saline County District Court and an active misdemeanor warrant from Salina Municipal Court, according to Forrester.
