Posted Jul 29, 2020 4:38 PM

Flash flood watches have been issued for counties in the area.

The National Weather Service (NWS) in Topeka has issued a flash flood watch in effect through late tonight for the following counties in our area.

Clay County

Cloud County

Republic County

Scattered thunderstorm activity should increase in coverage through the remainder of the morning and afternoon. Ongoing thunderstorm activity has yielded hourly rainfall rates exceeding two inches per hour. Recent rain events across the watch area have resulted in saturated soils and elevated river levels and any additional rainfall could lead to flash flooding. Additional rainfall amounts of one to two inches with locally higher amounts likely.

NWS in Hastings, Neb., has issued a flash flood watch for the following counties in our area.

Jewell County

Mitchell County

Thunderstorms will continue to produce locally heavy rainfall through this afternoon. Localized areas may receive two to four inches of rain, leading to the potential for flash flooding.

Even areas that receive less rain may still experience minor flooding due to saturated soils and increased runoff.
