WICHITA - Kansas Wesleyan Women's Volleyball picked up a pair of wins on Saturday in a triangular with Friends University and Haskell Indian Nations University.
KWU picked a key Kansas Conference win in four sets over Friends 25-18, 27-25, 15-25, 25-21, and swept Haskell in straight sets with three identical scores of 25-19.
The Coyotes hit over .300 as a team in the win over Friends.
KWU trailed 5-2 out of the gates but used a 7-2 run to take a 9-7 lead on Kyla Moore's kill. Friends took a 12-11 lead before KWU scored seven of the next eight points to take an 18-13 lead. Friends never got withing four points the rest of the first set.
The Coyotes took a 5-2 lead in the second set, but Friends came back and took a 7-5 lead, before KWU made a run back with the next four to lead 9-7. The set went back and forth with both teams leading until KWU trailed 25-24 and closed it with three straight kills to win.
Nothing went Wesleyan's way in the third set as KWU fell behind 17-8 in the set and couldn't recover.
KWU had to battle back several times in the fourth set. Every time KWU made a run, Friends answered back. The Coyotes tied it at 11-all before Friends would score twice to take a 13-11. KWU scored the next two to tie it, only to see Friends respond. Trailing 16-14, the Coyotes finally made a run scoring four in a row to take an 18-16 lead. The Falcons got within a point twice after that, the last at 20-19 before a 4-0 KWU run gave the Coyotes match point. Friends scored twice before Rylee Serpan closed it out with a kill.
Kylee Harris led the Coyotes with 15 kills, Josie Decking had 51 assists and 10 digs. Kori Arnold had 21 digs. The Coyotes blocked well in the match with six solos and eight assists for 10 team blocks. Moore was in on five, including three solos.
Against Haskell, the Coyotes trailed 10-6 in the first set, but came back and used a 6-0 run to take a 12-10 lead. The Coyotes continued to pull away in the set taking a 24-17 lead on a 4-0 run before Haskell scored twice, leading up to Moore's kill to end the set.
KWU took a 13-6 lead in the second set, and led 23-15 before Haskell got back within five at 23-18. Eden Schilder's kill for the Coyotes closed out the set.
Wesleyan switched things up in the third set, but were still able to come away with the win.
KWU saw action from all 18 players on the roster for the game. Harris again led the way with eight kills while freshman Madelyn Wolf had seven kills while playing in just two sets. Deckinger had 24 assists in two sets. Arnold had 18 digs, and Tristyn Hedman had 12.
