14-year-old Kan. boy hospitalized after 2-vehicle crash

MITCHELL COUNTY—A Kansas teen was injured in an accident just before noon Sunday in Mitchell County.

The Kansas Highway Patrol reported a 1996 Chevy 1500 driven by Gabriel Jacob Smith, 14, Downs  was eastbound on C Road at Kansas 128.

The driver failed to stop at stop sign. A southbound 2003 International 9900 driven by Francis Dale Freeman, 70, Mankato, struck the Chevy on the rear passenger side.

EMS transported Smith to the Mitchell County Hospital. Freeman was not injured. Smith was not wearing a seat belt, according to the KHP.
