The Southeast of Saline boy’s basketball team remains perfect in league play following a 60-34 drubbing of the Ellsworth Bearcats on the road tonight.

The Trojans got off to the hottest start of their season, blowing the doors off the Bearcats with a 20-0 run off the line.

The only points Ellsworth could muster in the first quarter came in the form of two free throws and from there, Southeast never looked back.

“We came out hot and I was really happy with our defensive effort,” SES head coach Bryson Flax said. “They had some different guys shooting the basketball because of our pressure and Nakari really dominated on the glass.”

The Trojans were led by a combined 38 points from Eli Sawyers and Nakari Morrical-Palmer, who dominated on both ends in a complete Southeast victory.

Tonight also saw the return of Jake Gebhardt, who sustained a season-ending injury during football season but added six points in his return.

“Jake did a really nice job and the guys were excited for him to step on the floor,” Flax said. “He’s a really great kid and he was projected to be our fifth starter before the season. We’ve had guys step up but it’s nice to have him back.”

Defensively, SES held Will Cravens to just seven points and allowed just one double-digit scorer.

With this win, Southeast advances to 10-3 and 5-0 in league play while Ellsworth falls to 4-9 and 1-4.

The Trojans will be back in action next week to take on Sacred Heart in Salina on Tuesday and Chapman at home on Friday.
