NORTH NEWTON – Kansas Wesleyan volleyball continued its outstanding start to the spring portion of its schedule on Wednesday, rolling to a straight set sweep of the Bethel Threshers – 25-19, 25-15, 25-19 at Thresher Gym.

The win was the fourth in a row for the Coyotes, and the 22nd straight win for KWU over Bethel, a streak dating back to the 2011 season.

The first set was tied 6-6 when the Coyotes got things going, as back to back kills by Maddy Beckett (SO/Halstead, Kan.) gave Wesleyan a 7-6 lead in the set. KWU built a 12-7 lead and would only see Bethel get within two points at 18-16 before the Coyotes would close the set on a 7-3 run capped by Elizabeth Hardacre (SO/Kensington, Kan.)'s kill.

Wesleyan jumped out to a 6-1 lead in the second set and would cruise from there. The Coyotes led 18-8 in the set at one point before coming away with the 25-15 win.

Bethel had an early lead in the final set at 4-2, but the Coyotes quickly refocused, scoring the next four points capped by a service ace by Emily Monson (SO/Cheney, Kan.). Bethel tied it at 7, but could never get ahead again as two more Beckett kills put the Coyotes up 9-7. The Threshers tied it again at 14 but a Hardacre kill would give the Coyotes a lead that would not be given up.

Bethel couldn't stop Beckett who rolled up 20 kills in the match while hitting a very impressive .350 in the match. Beckett also finished with three aces, three digs and a block. Cortney Hanna (SO/Lawrence, Kan.), the newly named Setter of the Week by the KCAC, had 21 assists, while Josie Deckinger (FR/Wichita, Kan.) had 18. Monson had 20 digs in the match.

The Coyotes are back in action this weekend in a triangular at Bethany with the Swedes and Ottawa.
