The Bennington Bulldogs and Lady Bulldogs will begin sub-state basketball play this week with games on Monday and Tuesday.

The boys will be up first with a road trip to Sacred Heart and a 7pm tip on Monday.

Bennington will enter the sub-state tournament with an overall record of 6-12, which makes them the seven seed in the bracket.

Their first round opponent, the 14-3 Sacred Heart Knights, enter as the two seed, and have caught fire down the home stretch of the season, winning their last twelve games in a row.

The Knights are incredibly deep, with a dangerous lineup of scorers featuring Jacob Gormley, Alex Disberger, Caleb Gilliland and Mason Richards.

The winner of this game will advance to play the winner of the 3-6 matchup featuring 13-7 Hutch Trinity and 10-10 Inman.

The Lady Bulldogs will begin their tournament run on Tuesday with a 7pm home tip against the Sedgwick Lady Cardinals.

Bennington narrowly got to host this game, entering the bracket as the four-seed with an 8-7 overall record.

Sedgewick, who has one more win but two more losses, will have to travel to Bennington for the first round of the tournament, looking to turn things around after a brutal finish to their 2021 season.

The Lady Cardinals sputtered to the finish line, dropping five of their last six contests down the stretch.

The winner of this game will advance to play whoever comes out of the 1-8 matchup in the bracket, either travelling to 16-3 Hillsboro or hosting 6-13 Ell-Saline on Friday.
