Calmness, chaos, and the patterns of nature are the focus of the current exhibit in Gallery 708 at the Salina Public Library.
Kansas artist Lydia Witt's exhibit, Figure and Sentiment, currently is on display in Gallery 708 through May 23. It is the library's first exhibit of 2022.
Witt describes her work as an expression of her love for the calmness, chaos, and mystery of nature and the patterns that can be found within it, according to information from the library. She grew up in rural Kansas and was raised with a heavy emphasis on the arts. Witt’s parents were both active artists, her mother being a printmaking major and art teacher, and her father moonlighting as an abstract artist while running the family business.
While attending college to study graphic arts and design in 2013, Witt discovered her love for printmaking. Through printmaking, she has uncovered a deeper appreciation for fine arts, as well as a greater respect for the lifelong dedication and growth that comes from being an artist, according to the library.
Witt is the owner and operator of Athas Design, and continues to learn and grow as a printmaker and artist alongside running her business.
Gallery 708 is located near the south entrance of Salina Public Library, 301 W. Elm Street. The public is welcome to view the exhibit during library hours: 9 a.m.-8:30 p.m. Monday-Thursday, 9 a.m.-6 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and noon-6 p.m. Sunday.
