Gregory Eugene Rhea, known to all as Greg, passed away on July 19, 2024 in Harper, Kansas. He was born on May 1, 1957 in Salina, Kansas to Kenneth and Dorothy (Baker) Rhea. Greg grew up surrounded by the love of his family and the dust of construction sites.
Greg’s career was marked by his exceptional skills as a heavy equipment operator. He began working alongside his father and brothers at Rhea Construction Company, mastering the art of earth moving. Greg’s brother Tom said, “Greg was the best equipment operator I have ever seen.” And Tom had seen a lot of operators through the years. His talent and dedication to his craft led him to work for various companies throughout his career. In his later years, Greg found joy in farming with the Hostetler family in Harper where he continued to work the land he loved.
A true outdoorsman, Greg loved golf and especially cherished his time spent fishing, often accompanied by his loyal dog Rowdy. His love for nature was evident in his dedication to his hobbies, providing him with a peaceful escape and countless, cherished memories.
Greg was preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth and Dorothy Rhea, and his brother, Thomas Rhea. He is survived by his daughters, Candice Rhea and Keyra Rhea; sister, Glenda (Harold) Mutschler; brother, Tony (Anna) Rhea; sister-in-law, Ann Rhea; grandchildren: Julian, Ethan, and Jayden; nieces and nephews: Amy (Cary), Beth (Rod), Corey, Karen (Jay), Alex (Audrey), Madalynn, and Chase; other relatives and friends.
Greg’s passing leaves a void in the hearts of those who knew him but his spirit will live on through the stories of his life, and the landscapes he shaped. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
