KWU Athletics
Kansas Wesleyan track and field had a busy end to the week as the Coyotes make final preparations ahead of next week's KCAC Championships in Winfield. KWU had student-athletes compete in the Drake Relays, the Viking Invitational, and the Southwestern Relays.
At Drake, the Coyotes had a Sprint Medley Relay team on the women's side and set a new school record in the event with a time of 4:07.71. The team of Samiyah Walker (FR/Bakersfield, Calif.), Tiffany Pace (FR/Ferris, Texas), Bailey Mann (FR/Ferris, Texas) and Tabetha Deines (SR/Salina, Kan.) finished in sixth place in the event that featured several NCAA opponents.
The Coyote men race the 4x400m relay at Drake, finishing with a season's best time. The team of Eugene Dixon (SR/Plymouth, Minn.), Nigel Davis (SR/Los Angeles, Calif.), Eryk Kyser (SO/Caney, Kan.) and Ty Davidson (FR/Lakin, Kan.) finished 26th overall in the event with a time of 3:25.74.
KWU also sent some competitors to the Grand View Viking Classic.
Tamayia Washington (FR/Manhattan, Kan.) came away with a third place finish in the 400m at the event, running a time of 62.54 seconds.
Darius Archuleta (FR/Liberal, Kan.) competed in two events at Grand View. He posted a 16th place finish in the 100m dash with a time of 11.44 seconds. He placed eighth in the long jump with a mark of 6.09m.
The Coyotes closed out the busy week with the Southwestern Relays in Winfield, the site of next week's conference championships.
Cole Parker (JR/Corning, Calif.) won the javelin throw with a NAIA B Standard achievement of 55.90m, nearly seven meters better than the second place finisher in the event. Hunter Pane placed fifth in the javelin with a throw of 40.10m.
Kalil Murphy (FR/Hollywood, Fla.) placed second in the triple jump, hitting the NAIA B Standard with a jump of 14.44m.
Kaleigh Hanzlick (SR/Hoisington, Kan.) finished third in the high jump with a mark of 1.49m.
Nicole Holaday (JR/Gove, Kan.) had a third place finish in the shot put with a mark of 12.46m and Marisela Hernandez-Castro (SR/Yuba City, Calif.) finished 16th with a mark of 9.97m.
Kalil Murphy finished fourth in the 400m hurdles with a time of 58.82 seconds.
Kalil Murphy also finished fourth in the long jump with a mark of 6.46m.
Cole Parker finished fifth in the shot put with a mark of 14.59m.
Hernandez-Castro had a fifth place finish in the hammer with a mark of 44.69m and Holaday was 13th with a mark of 38.62m.
Shane Calvin (SO/Lakin, Kan.) placed sixth in the 1500m with a time of 4:12.51, while Giovanni Rios (FR/Temecula, Calif.) was 10th in 4:16.40.
Hunter Pane placed seventh in the hammer throw with a mark of 40.63m.
In the women's 800m, KWU was led by Josie Koppes (FR/Manhattan, Kan.) in 10th place with a time of 2:36.02. Regan Rhodes (JR/Mullinville, Kan.) finished 12th with a time of 2:37.33, Alayna Behrman (FR/Craig, Colo.) was 19th with a time of 2:45.89 and Savannah Pilsner (FR/Columbus, Texas) was 28th with a time of 2:56.14.
Daniella Gaona (SO/Clifton, Texas) had an 11th place finish in the 1500m with a time of 5:22.24.
Hunter Pane finished 11th in the discus with a mark of 37.56m.
Gavin Tucker (FR/Wichita, Kan.) led three KWU finishers in the 800m with a time of 2:03.47 finishing 21st. Jack Horacek (FR/Topeka. Kan.) was 23rd with a time of 2:04.71 and Roberto Apodaca (FR/Scott City, Kan.) was 39th with a time of 2:10.05.
