Salina teen boy arrested after car strikes tree early Sunday

A Salina teen was arrested after a single-vehicle accident early Sunday morning.

Officers were dispatched to the area of Missouri Avenue and Stack Avenue at approximately 3:45 a.m. Sunday for the report of a vehicle that had struck a tree, Salina Police Captain Paul Forrester reported this morning.

When they arrived, they found a 2014 Chevrolet Cruz with heavy front-end damage facing southbound. The driver, a 17-year-old boy from Salina, was being checked by EMS personnel for possible minor injuries. A 17-year-old Salina girl who was a passenger in the vehicle was not injured.

According to Forrester, the boy was confused as to how he lost control of the vehicle and struck the tree.

Officers located drug paraphernalia inside the Cruz, Forrester reported.

The boy was arrested on the following requested charges, according to Forrester.

●Driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol

●Possession of marijuana

●Possession of drug paraphernalia

●Improper driving on laned roadways
