The Salina Family YMCA is proud to announce its first-ever “Blizzards and Bishops” Chess Tournament, set for Saturday, December 6.

This exciting new event welcomes players of all experience levels — from seasoned competitors to those just beginning to explore the game of chess.

Check-in begins at 8:30 am at the YMCA, and registration is just $5 per participant.

The tournament will use a Swiss-system pairing format, meaning no player will be eliminated throughout the event. Each match will follow a G/30 time control with a 10-second increment per move starting from move one.

A US Chess Federation membership is required to participate. Players are encouraged to bring their own chess sets, boards, and clocks, as only a limited number will be available on-site.

“This tournament is a great opportunity for players of all levels to challenge themselves, meet others who love the game, and have fun,” organizers said.
