Kansas Wesleyan Men's Soccer scored three goals in the final ten minutes of Thursday's soccer match with Kansas Christian College to pull away for a 4-0 win at JRI Stadium at the Graves Family Sports Complex.
The late goals were sparked by Wesleyan's relentless pressure against Kansas Christian's gimmick defensive alignment, where the Falcons at times had six or more players on the back line to try to stop KWU from scoring, while only pressing offensively a couple times in the match.
Cayden Andersen had a brace for the Coyotes scoring twice, book-ending the Coyote tallies, scoring the first in the 39th minute off an assist by Jesus Moreno, and capping the scoring in the 89th off an assist by Jacob Langebartels.
Andersen's 39th minute tally stood as the only score until the 81st when Eduardo Flores sent one home off an assist by Mika Wernicke.
Wernicke converted Wesleyan's third goal, in the 83rd minute, off a direct kick.
The Coyote offense shot early and often, holding a 34-1 advantage in shots in the match. KWU held a 21-1 advantage in the first and a 13-0 margin in the second.
Andersen led the Coyotes with eight shots. Santiago Pagnutti got the shutout win in goal.
The Coyotes are back in action on a quick turnaround again, heading to McPherson on Saturday to take on Central Christian at 7:30 p.m. KWU opens KCAC play next Wednesday at home against York.
