Bryan’s life began on August 5, 1978, the son of Gary Nelson and Lydia Joan Wheeler in Homestead, Florida. Bryan passed away peacefully on Friday, September 24, 2021, at the age of 43. He was preceded in death by his wife April on December 31, 2020.
His loving family includes his mom and dad, Lydia Joan and William “Wayne” Steen of Florence, South Carolina; brother Christopher Scott Wheeler (Anna Marie) of Kodiak, Alaska; sisters Kelli Steen Wukela (Michael) and Kristen Leigh Steen (fiancé, Tory Kluender) all of Columbia, South Carolina; also his father Gary Nelson Wheeler, and his half-brother Garrett Wheeler both of Gainesville, Florida; his bonus mother Kathy Wohlgemuth Wiebe of Whitewater, Kansas; father-in-law Larry Wiebe of Potwin, Kansas; brother-in-law Aaron Wiebe (Krista Briar) of Park City, Kansas. He is Uncle Bryan to Jack and Clara Wukela, and to Asa and Elek Wheeler.
He graduated from West Florence High School, class of 1997, in Florence, South Carolina. He played the trombone in the school’s marching band all four years. Bryan received his associate degree from Florence Darlington Technical College.
He married April Dawn Wiebe on July 4, 2013 in Whitewater, Kansas.
Bryan was a night auditor for Towne Place Suites by Marriott. He attended Federated Church and enjoyed reading and helping others with computer techniques and issues.
His family will gather with friends on Monday, October 4, from 10 a.m.-11:00 a.m. for visitation at Federated Church, 207 E. Central, Whitewater, Kansas. His funeral will follow at 11:00 a.m.. A private family burial will be held at a later date in Whitewater Cemetery.
