A vehicle driving erratically caught the eye of a Salina police officer Monday night and ultimately landed its driver in jail.
Salina Police Captain Gary Hanus said this morning that an officer in the 2100 block of N. Ninth Street noticed a vehicle driving erratically at approximately 11:30 p.m. Monday. When the officer ran the license plate, it was discovered that the plate was not registered to the vehicle it was on.
The officer attempted to stop the vehicle, which pulled into the parking lot of the Super 8 Hotel at 120 E. Diamond Drive.
The driver exited the vehicle and was recognized by the officer as being Jere M. Thomas, 39, of Salina, Hanus said.
Thomas began to run, but was apprehended by the officer in the 200 block of E. Diamond Drive. Found on Thomas' person or in close proximity to him were illegal drugs, Hanus said.
Thomas was arrested on the following requested charges, according to Hanus.
●Possession of a stimulant
●Possession of marijuana
●Operating a motor vehicle while having a suspended license
●A vehicle registration violation
●Interference with a law enforcement officer
●A drug tax stamp violation
