
Russell D. Austin, 60, was born on September 26, 1964 in California to Jackie L. Moody and Bruce Edward Austin. Russell passed away peacefully on March 3, 2025 with friends by his side.
Russell was a true gear head! He quickly obtained his A.S.E certification Russell owned and operated a successful mechanics shop Austins Auto Repair in the north part of Salina while balancing being professional drag racer and loving father. Russell resided in Salina, KS for most of his adult life. He cherished life long friendship with countless people and always lended a helping hand and generously shared his knowledge of mechanics with anyone willing to learn.
He was preceded in death by his dog, Otto; his father, Bruce Edward Austin; his uncle, Roy; grandpa, Earl; and grandmother, Mattie Austin.
He is survived by his mother, Jackie Lynn Moody of California; his dog, Junk; two adult children, Jessica Renee Austin and Alysis Marie Austin; two adolescent children, Renee Marie Cox, Lynn Edward Austin; 5 grandchildren; and several life long friends Russ considered his family.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, March 14th at Ryan Mortuary, Salina. Immediately following commencement of services all friends and family are invited to join his daughter Renee leading the procession hot rod style to Dean Evans stadium on Markley Road in Salina,KS for provided BBQ lunch and final farewell featuring music, a viewing of drag cars, and motorcycles. Feel free to bring your own hot rod in tribute to Russ.
Russ was avid believer in continued education and Memorials may be made for future educational expenses for Renee Cox and Lynn Austin care of Rachel Cox.
