A local business is out more than $4,000 in a case of theft by deception.

According to Salina Police Captain Paul Forrester, on July 24, a subject ordered two System Plasma PMX45 welding torches and two Eliminizer filters over the phone from Airgas USA, LLC, 300 North Santa Fe Avenue. The subject claimed to work for Manhattan Pipeline and advised that someone would be in to pick up the equipment later in the day, he explained.

Later on July 24, a subject claiming to be Tim Fuller arrived and picked up one of the welders and the two filters, Forrester noted. The other welder had to be ordered and was to be picked up on Monday, he added. On Monday, the same subject picked up the second welder, Forrester reported.

On Thursday, Airgas was notified by Manhattan Pipeline that they did not order any welders and they did not have any employees by the name of "Tim Fuller," he explained.

According to Forrester, the suspect was described as a white male approximately 6’3”, heavyset, wearing a khaki or gray fire retardant welding shirt, and driving a white Dodge Ram diesel pickup with a black metal flatbed.

Total loss is estimated at $4,332, he added.
