ELLSWORTH - A longtime Salina elementary school principal has been selected as the next superintendent for USD 327 Ellsworth-Kanopolis-Geneseo.
The USD 327 Ellsworth-Kanopolis-Geneseo Board of Education announced this afternoon that Deena Hilbig has been selected to lead the district. She is to begin her duties as superintendent on July 1.
Hilbig currently serves as principal at Meadowlark Ridge Elementary School in Salina, a position she has held since 2006.
"I look forward to serving the staff, students, and patrons of USD 327. Having grown up in a town similar in size I understand the importance of community. I will work to support our staff and students, providing leadership to help us continue to grow and develop our youth," Hilbig said in a news release from USD 327.
Hilbig has spent her entire educational career in Salina USD 305 schools. Prior to serving as principal at Meadowlark, Hilbig was a teacher at Whittier Elementary School and Coronado Elementary School. She also was a lead teacher at Sunset Elementary School and Coronado Elementary School.
Additionally, Hilbig has provided advanced leadership development and has mentored first- and second-year principals throughout central Kansas for the Kansas Educational Leadership Institute (KELI) at Kansas State University.
