NEW CAMBRIA -- A rural New Cambria man lost his house to a fire Monday night. 

Casey Burket, 49, was able to escape with his dogs before the fire at 3192 North Weaver Road engulfed his house, Saline County Sheriff Roger Soldan said this morning. Deputies and firefighters from Rural Fire District No. 5 were dispatched to the scene at 10:22 p.m. Monday.

Burket told authorities that a fire had been burning in the fireplace. He awoke to a strange odor and discovered that a spark had apparently gotten out of the fireplace and set a chair on fire, Soldan said.

The house was fully engulfed by the time firefighters arrived. Total loss was estimated at $195,000, Soldan said.
