Robert M. Sumpter

Robert M. Sumpter, 86, of Ottawa, KS passed away Sunday, March 3, 2024 at his home. He was born March 24, 1937 in Parsons, KS the son of Brittie E. Sumpter and Ethel Mae (McGaughey) Sumpter.
Robert served our country in the United States Air Force as Airman 2nd Class from 1954 to 1957.
He was the owner of Robert’s Pest Control, Ottawa, KS for many years. After "retiring" nearly twenty years ago, he worked with his son, Michael at Robert's Pest Control in Topeka and with a friend at another local pest control company.
He married Doris Crable in August, 1955, divorcing later, after raising five children together. He was united in marriage to Ruth L. Anderson on August 7, 1989 in Miami, OK they shared over thirty-four years of marriage.
Mr. Sumpter was preceded in death by his parents, Brittie and Ethel Mae Sumpter; four brothers, Earl, Fred, Ernest, and Raymond Sumpter; three sisters, Dora Mae Johnson, Martha Cole and Barbara J. Gustin; a half-sister, Lucille Sumpter; step-sister, Juanita Kraus; step-brother, Eddie Baker; granddaughter, Courtney Sumpter; and great grandson, Blake Cazier.
Surviving family includes his wife, Ruth L. Sumpter of the home; three sons, Michael (Nancy) Sumpter, Jeff (Barbara) Sumpter and Robert Sumpter II all of Topeka, KS; two daughters, Pamela (Don) Borneman Meriden, KS and Robin (Leo) Schreiner Topeka, KS; a step-daughter, Haley (Sarah) Anderson Ottawa, KS; stepson, Aaron (Kelly) Anderson Topeka, KS; sister, Bernice Shamblin Lorena, TX; half-sister, Nora Murry Topeka, KS; seventeen grandchildren; and twenty-nine great grandchildren.
Cremation is planned. There will be no service per Mr. Sumpter's request. Lamb-Roberts-Price Funeral Home, 325 S. Hickory, Ottawa, KS 66067.
