Sr. Margaret Nacke

Sister Margaret Nacke died March 30, 2024, at Nazareth Motherhouse in
Concordia, KS. She was 90 years old and a Sister of St. Joseph for 70 years. She was
born in Hebron, Nebraska, on November 15, 1933, to Albert and Frederica Haug Nacke, the sixth of seven children, and was baptized Margaret Alberta. She entered the Sisters of St. Joseph, Concordia, KS on September 8, 1953. On March 18, 1954, Margaret received the habit of the Sisters of St. Joseph and was given the name Sister Jeanne d’Arc; changing back to her baptismal name in 1979. She pronounced first vows on March 19, 1955 and final vows on March 19, 1958.
In 1957 Sister Margaret received her B.A. in Art from Marymount College, Salina, KS. This was followed up with a M.F.A. in Sculpture from Catholic University in Washington, DC in 1961 and a M.Ed. and a Ed.D. in 1977 and 1979 respectively in Adult Ed. from the University of Toronto. She spent 16 years teaching in the Art Department at Marymount College in Salina, KS. After teaching she worked in various positions in adult education. In 1993 – 2012 she engaged in an Eastern European Ministry to help in curriculum development of the first Catholic School of Nursing. Sister Margaret retired to the Motherhouse in October of 2021.
Sister Margaret was preceded in death by her parents, one brother and three sisters. She is survived by one brother, Fr. Xavier Nacke, and one sister, Elizabeth Mahoney. A Bible Vigil Service will be held April 4 at 7:00 p.m. in the Nazareth Motherhouse Auditorium with Sister Faye Huelsmann as the eulogist. The Mass of Christian Burial will be April 5 at 10:30 a.m. in the Motherhouse Auditorium, Father Xavier Nacke presiding. The burial will be in the Nazareth Motherhouse Cemetery.
