The Salina Airport Authority is seeking volunteers to participate in its upcoming full-scale exercise on Tuesday, September 15.
This exercise is held every three years and will simulate an aircraft accident, allowing emergency responders to practice their response to an actual airport emergency.
Volunteers are needed to serve as simulated “victims” during the exercise.
Volunteers may be asked to:
- Lie on the ground around or inside a fuselage prop.
- Act out symptoms provided on a role card.
- Participate in EMS triage activities.
- Ride in an ambulance or van to the hospital as part of the simulation.
- Serve as family members at the terminal.
The Airport Authority is also looking for volunteer moulage artists to help apply realistic injury makeup before the exercise.
Volunteers should report to the Salina Airport north ramp, just north of the "Big Bertha" Hangar 959 (2044 Scanlan Ave) before 1:00 pm. Gate L1 will be the entry point, and volunteers should wear older clothing, as participants may be encouraged to apply moulage makeup as part of their acting role.
This is a unique and meaningful opportunity for community service, emergency preparedness involvement, and resume building.
