The Southeast of Saline Trojan track and field team completed their first meet of the season in Salina and despite competing against the likes of 5A Salina South and Salina Central, put in impressive results taking first on the boys side and 3rd on the girls side.

The girls team, which scored 124 points, just 5.5 off the pace of Salina South, finished the day with five first, three second and six third place finishes.

Jentrie Alderson took home the gold in both the 1600 and 3200 meter races. Ashley Prochazka won the 800m while coming third in the 1600m and Ivie Douglas topped the charts in the shot put and placed second in the discus throw.

The team also won the 4x800m relay thanks to an 11:23:81 posted by Joni Schroeder, Mallorie Pearson, Brynn Hawbaker and Emma Lippold.

Brecken Wagner took second in the 200m dash while third place honors went to Avery Caselman in the triple jump, Kieran Douglas in the javelin throw, Mallorie Pearson in the 800m run and Joni Schroeder in the 3200.

The team wrapped up an impressive day with a third place finish in the 4x400 meter relay.

On the boys side it was a dominant performance for the Trojans, who won the Salina Invitational 22 points clear of Salina Central.

Michael Murray took home two top finishes in the long jump and 100m dash matched by two first place results in the 800 and 1600m runs by Dylan Sprecker and in the 110m and 300m hurdles by Chase Poague.

Spreckers 4:24.33 in the 1600 shattered an SES school record that had stood since 2007.

Adding to an already impressive day, more first place finishes went to Grant Stumpf in the high jump, Nakari Morrical-Palmer in the 200m dash, Dominic Jackson in the 3200 and Kanin Elkins in the 400.

The Trojan boys also took home first in the 4x400m relay and second in the 4x800.

To round out the podium appearances, second place finishes went to Grant Stumpf in the 110 meter hurdles, Eddie McVay in the 100m dash, Luke Gleason in the 800 and 1600 and Joel Kejr in the 3200.

Chase Poague took third in the 100 meter dash to make it a Trojan 1-2-3 behind Eddie McVay and Michael Murray in a great start to the Trojan season.

If this meet is any indication of things to come for both teams, the run of Trojan dominance in track and field may be set to continue for at least one more year.
