Kansas Wesleyan's dynamic point guard was named as the conference's Defensive Player of the Week for her efforts last week for the Coyotes in two wins.

This marks the third straight week Ricks has brought home a weekly honor, starting two weeks ago earning Defensive Player of the Week honors, and following it up earning the Offensive Player of the Week honor last week. This week, Ricks' defensive prowess was again on display.

Ricks starred again defensively for the Coyotes, with an outstanding defensive effort in two games, helping KWU stay unbeaten in KCAC play. On Saturday, Ricks guarded Alanis Delgado from Saint Mary, and forced her into 4 of 17 shooting from the field, turning her into a high-volume shooter. She was also solid on defense in the York game as KWU held the Panthers to 65 points. She was instrumental in keeping York's guards' scoring chances limited and helping force 13 turnovers that yielded 19 points for the Coyotes.

Last week's wins extended KWU's winning streak to nine games as the Coyotes improved to 11-2 overall and 7-0 in KCAC play heading into the semester break.

K-State Ends Non-Con Slate Against New Mexico State

LAWRENCE, Kan. –&nbsp;Kansas football announced on Tuesday that Brandon Shelby has been named the Jayhawks’ defensive backs coach. Shelby joined KU in 2024 as an analyst following 13 seasons at Indiana.

“We’re excited to announce Brandon Shelby as our defensive backs coach,” head coach Lance Leipold said. “Brandon has a proven track record of developing and recruiting at a high level. He’s an experienced coach at the power-four level and did an excellent job this fall with our program and the development of our secondary. I am confident that he will do a great job in leading our defensive backs.”

Shelby has more than 18 years of coaching experience, following 13 years at Indiana. While at with the Hoosiers, Shelby served as Indiana’s assistant head coach/cornerbacks coach from 2021-23 and was a part of four bowl games in his time at Bloomington. Shelby was the fourth-longest tenured assistant coach in IU history, the longest-tenured cornerbacks coach in the Big Ten East, and the second-longest tenured assistant in the conference overall. Over his time in Bloomington, Shelby had four cornerbacks lead the league in pass breakups and three paced the conference in passes defended.

“I’m incredibly grateful to Coach Leipold for the opportunity to continue being a part of KU Football and contributing to such an exceptional program,” Shelby said. “As a member of the defensive staff, I’m excited to lead the secondary and mentor the student-athletes who proudly represent the crimson and blue. I’m eager to help build something truly remarkable here at KU. Let’s get to work – Rock Chalk!”

In 2020, Shelby coached Tiwan Mullen to become the first IU cornerback in program history to earn first team All-American honors. The Hoosiers led the conference and finished second nationally with 17 interceptions, eight of which were accounted for by cornerbacks.

Shelby served as Indiana’s cornerbacks coach from 2011-14 and 2016-20, coaching the secondary for one season in 2015. Prior to his time at Indiana, Shelby spent the 2010 season as cornerbacks coach at the University of Louisiana-Monroe.

In 2009, Shelby coached the secondary at Portland State University and managed the defensive backs at the University of San Diego in 2008.

Shelby began his coaching career at his alma mater, the University of Oklahoma, as a defensive assistant in 2006. The Sooners won the Big 12 Championship and went on to play in the Fiesta Bowl that season. Shelby spent the 2007 campaign as a graduate assistant at the University of Arizona before moving on to San Diego.

Shelby participated in the inaugural Future Coaches Academy in San Antonio in January 2007, a workshop held in conjunction with the NCAA, American Football Coaches Association, the Black Coaches Association, and the National Football League. He also completed a Bill Walsh NFL Minority Coaching Fellowship with the Houston Texans in June 2017.

Shelby was a standout defensive back at Oklahoma, where he participated in two BCS National Championship games and three-straight BCS bowl games. As a four-year letterman (2001-04), he earned both All-Big 12 honors and Academic All-Big 12 honors. In 2002, he tied a then-Oklahoma record with four sacks for a defensive back.

LAWRENCE, Kan. –&nbsp;Kansas football announced on Tuesday that Brandon Shelby has been named the Jayhawks’ defensive backs coach. Shelby joined KU in 2024 as an analyst following 13 seasons at Indiana.“We’re excited to announce Brandon Shelby as our defensive backs coach,” head coach Lance Leipold said. “Brandon has a proven track record of developing and recruiting at a high level. He’s an experienced coach at the power-four level and did an excellent job this fall with our program and the development of our secondary. I am confident that he will do a great job in leading our defensive backs.”Shelby has more than 18 years of coaching experience, following 13 years at Indiana. While at with the Hoosiers, Shelby served as Indiana’s assistant head coach/cornerbacks coach from 2021-23 and was a part of four bowl games in his time at Bloomington. Shelby was the fourth-longest tenured assistant coach in IU history, the longest-tenured cornerbacks coach in the Big Ten East, and the second-longest tenured assistant in the conference overall. Shelby spent the 2007 campaign as a graduate assistant at the University of Arizona before moving on to San Diego.Shelby participated in the inaugural Future Coaches Academy in San Antonio in January 2007, a workshop held in conjunction with the NCAA, American Football Coaches Association, the Black Coaches Association, and the National Football League. He also completed a Bill Walsh NFL Minority Coaching Fellowship with the Houston Texans in June 2017.Shelby was a standout defensive back at Oklahoma, where he participated in two BCS National Championship games and three-straight BCS bowl games. As a four-year letterman (2001-04), he earned both All-Big 12 honors and Academic All-Big 12 honors. In 2002, he tied a then-Oklahoma record with four sacks for a defensive back.

Arena Football One announces 2025 management team

LAWRENCE, Kan. –&nbsp;Kansas senior cornerback Mello Dotson earned his second All-America honor as he was named a Third Team All-American by the Associated Press (AP) on Monday.

The All-America honor marks Dotson’s second of his career after being named Walter Camp Second Team All-America on Dec. 12. Dotson becomes Kansas’ 25th All-America honor all-time and the first since Joe Dineen was named AP Second Team All-America in 2018. Dotson also becomes the 13th Jayhawk to earn multiple All-America honors over their career.

Along with Dotson, senior cornerback Cobee Bryant was named a Second Team All-American by the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) on Dec. 13, making Dotson and Bryant the first Kansas cornerback duo to earn All-America honors in the same season.

Dotson’s senior season was highlighted by his five interceptions, which led the Big 12 Conference and were tied for the third-most among cornerbacks nationally. In addition, Dotson recorded 49 tackles, 12 pass deflections and two interceptions returned for touchdowns, which were tied for the most nationally.

Over his career, Dotson totaled 12 interceptions, 177 total tackles and 37 passes defended. Dotson’s four interceptions returned for touchdowns set the Kansas school record.

Following the 2024 season, Dotson was named First Team All-Big 12 and Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year Honorable Mention. Dotson’s performance vs. No. 17 Iowa State, which included a 25-yard interception return for a touchdown, earned him the Paycom Jim Thorpe Award Defensive Back of the Week and Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week honors.

Mello Dotson Named Associated Press Third Team All-America

KANSAS CITY, Mo. –&nbsp;Arrowhead Events, the special events arm of the Kansas City Chiefs, announced today that the University of Cincinnati will take on the University of Nebraska at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium – home of the Chiefs – on Thursday, August 28.

This face-off between the Bearcats and the Cornhuskers marks the first meeting of the two programs since 1906, when the Cornhuskers defeated the Bearcats 41-0. The University of Cincinnati will serve as the designated home team in Kansas City. This game was originally scheduled for 2020 as part of a home-and-home series but was impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. The two games have been rescheduled for the 2025 and 2033 seasons.

GEHA Field at Arrowhead to host Cincinnati vs. Nebraska in August 2025

CLEVELAND (AP) — The only thing the Chiefs had to worry about in the final minutes Sunday was Patrick Mahomes' ankle.

Mahomes threw two touchdown passes before limping off with an injury in the fourth quarter, Xavier Worthy ran for a score and Kansas City finally had a relatively easy win, 21-7 over the mistake-prone Cleveland Browns.

Mahomes connected for TDs in the first half&nbsp;<a href="https://x.com/Chiefs/status/1868357953780396068">with Juju Smith-Schuster</a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a href="https://x.com/Chiefs/status/1868373621355274266">Noah Gray</a>&nbsp;as the Chiefs (13-1) built a 21-0 lead and then slogged their way through an ugly second half.

The defending Super Bowl champions have 10 wins by seven points or less, with six coming on the game's final play.

Mahomes didn't finish the game, leaving when he got his ankle rolled up on while being tackled. Carson Wentz replaced him for the final 5:23. Mahomes finished 19 of 38 for 159 yards.

After the game, Mahomes said X-rays were negative. He said he would have lobbied harder to stay in if the Browns had gotten within one score.

“We'll get into the rehab part, the treatment part and try to get back on a short week,” said Mahomes, noting the Chiefs will play again Saturday — the second of three games in 11 days. “With all the adrenaline from the game, it's hard to tell now (if he can play). Usually, it's the day after when you get a good sense of it."

Mahomes was driven to the Chiefs' buses on a cart.
