Pamela is survived by her sisters, Michele Wiezorek (Mike) of Holyrood and Mary Jo Mull (Budd) of Great Bend; dad, Bernard Levings of Great Bend; niece, Amanda Liston and her children Charity and Gracelynn; nephews, Brandon Sandberg (Lisa) and their children Johnathan and Able, Shane Sandberg (Mary) and their children Jada, Jenna, and Jaci, and Shiloh Sandberg (Tasha) and their children Lily and Moxley. She was preceded in death by her parents; companion, Charlene Frye; and brother, John Sandberg.

We all had to accept that you were ready to go and join him and dad in his heavenly kingdom. You were surrounded by your loving family and friends during your last days and this made your passing easier. We saw the cardinals and knew the angels were calling you to be with them.

No longer will you be a phone call away. Your seat remains empty at our marathon card games. Your precious dog, Star, is lost without her mommy. We'll miss your smile, your laugh, your selfless devotion to your church, work, family, and friends. You have been such a huge part of all of our lives but we understand that you have been ready to go. The outpouring of love and friendship from so many people near and far has touched our hearts.

Your passing has left such a huge hole in our hearts, but we are comforted by the knowledge you are at peace. Your legacy will live on forever in the lives of your children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. We all know you will continue to look over us and guide us, because that's what moms do. We look forward to the day when we are reunited as a family in Christ.

Jess, a lifelong resident of Salina KS, died on Aug 19, 2020 at the age of 73.

Jess is survived by his wife, Marilyn Hughes; his children Mike Hughes and Jennifer Pruente; and his grandchildren Jessica, Ashley, Kyle, Ally and Addison. He is predeceased by his parents Jesse and Agnus Hughes as well as his brother Mike Hughes.

Jess is a veteran of the Vietnam War. The discipline and patriotism he learned in the Navy never left him. He was fondly known as "the knife maker." He spent over four decades making knives and perfecting his craft. He enjoyed camping, fishing and being outdoors.

A graveside service is scheduled for Saturday Aug 29, 2020 at 1 p.m. at All Saints Catholci Cemetery, 3350 E. Crawford St, Salina, KS.

Jess will be deeply missed by his friends, family and all who knew him.

Scott I. Pugh, 70, of Salina, passed away Friday, August 21, 2020. He was born October 15, 1949, in Salina, KS to the late Jim and Patty Jo Pugh.

He graduated from Salina High School in 1968, attended Cloud County Community College and was a Veteran of the United States Air Force.

He enjoyed farming and traveling with Latda in his motor home.

Survivors are: his (step-mom) Allene Pugh; spouse Latda Pugh; children Somsack (Michelle) Bounsombath, Julie (Brandon) Buhler, Tommy Bounsombath, and Wade (Jasmine) Pugh; sister Cheryl (Joe) Shannon; grandchildren Charley Robinson, Angelina Maybrier, Nali Buhler, and Winifred Bounsombath; nephew Chris Wokaty; nieces Jami Massey and Nikki Apodaca and numerous extended family and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, August 29 at Ryan Mortuary with burial following in Roselawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, August 27 at Ryan Mortuary. Masks are required and social distancing will be observed.

He is survived by: his wife of 65 years, Patricia; children, Sharon (Jim DeFries), Diana, James, Chris (Nancy); six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and his sister, Anna Evonne Scuitte.&nbsp;

Norman was preceded in death by: his parents, Olive and George Sawaya; brothers, Jack, George Jr., Emerson, and Anrol Oliver ‘Buddy’; and a sister, Noreen Cooke Schell.

Norman served proudly as a Marine in the Korean War.&nbsp; In 2014, he participated in an Honor Flight to Washington, D.C.

For over 30 years, Norman sold insurance and was a financial planner.&nbsp; He was an active member at Emanuel Lutheran Church.&nbsp; Norman was also a Shriner, and a member of the Isis Temple Pipes and Drums bagpipe band for many years.

Memorial service will be announced at a later date.&nbsp; &nbsp;Friends may sign his book from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday at Elliott Mortuary.

&nbsp; Ruth Ann Dick, 81, of McPherson, KS, passed away at 3:38 p.m., Friday, August 21st, at her residence. . Ruth Ann was born in Hillsboro, Kansas on September 8, 1938, a daughter of Mary Elizabeth (Schneider) and David Winter. Ruth Ann attended Galva Elementary School and graduated from Galva High School, Galva, Kansas in 1956. She then attended and graduated from Liberal School of Hair Dressing and Beauty School, Liberal, Kansas. Ruth Ann Winter was united in marriage to Douglas Dean Dick, Sr. on June 15, 1958 at Liberal, Kansas. The young couple established their first home together in Turpin, Oklahoma. This union was blessed with the birth of a son Doug, Jr. Doug, Sr. died on January 12, 2017.. She was a member of Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church McPherson, Kansas. Ruth Ann was a homemaker and she took great pride in providing for her family in this manner. She and her husband Doug moved to Branson where they started, owned, and operated Cooper Creek Resort Campground and Marina for several years, before selling and moving to Castle Rock, Colorado where they were owners and operators of a K.O.A. Campground until their retirement. Ruth Ann was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Ladies Auxiliary, McPherson, Kansas. Ruth Ann enjoyed fishing, camping, and spending time with friends and family. She and Doug also loved traveling in their motor home and travel around the Country for 15 years and visited many campgrounds and other places. She also enjoyed helping the Missions in Haiti through her church. She is survived by her son, Son, Doug Dick, Jr., of McPherson, Kansas; her sister, Pearl Besecker, of McPherson, Kansas; Miss Molly her canine companion many; nieces and nephews, other relatives and a host of friends. Evelyn Laura Shoemaker, 85, passed away Friday, August 21, 2020 in Ellsworth. She was born November 12, 1934 in Ellsworth County to Fred and Laura (Kihn) Boeken.

Evelyn was a lifetime resident of the Ellsworth area where she was a homemaker and worked in the parts department at John Deere, the Elkhorn Diner, and F&amp;M Drug. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, the Elkhorn Club, the First Presbyterian Church of Ellsworth, and the church’s Presbyterian Women’s group. She married Merle John Shoemaker in Ellsworth on October 8, 1955.

Evelyn is survived by her son, Kevin Shoemaker (Kathy) of Ellsworth; granddaughters, Jaileen Shoemaker of Tulsa, OK and Jamie Shoemaker of Manhattan, KS; and sisters, Rose Albright (Alvin) of Hutchinson, KS and Parthena Schulz (Jim) of Ellsworth. Clemens D. "Clem" Frederking, 85, of Salina, passed away Sunday, August 16, 2020. He was born March 19, 1935 in Lucas, Kan.

Clem married Shirley Frain on November 19, 1955 in Culver, Kan. He was a graduate of Coyne Electric of Chicago, Ill., and worked at Radio Supply Company for 35 years. Clem was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church of Salina.

Survivors include: his wife of nearly 65 years, Shirley, of Salina; son, Rod Frederking (Alicia), of Wichita; daughter, Rhonda Shuman, of Edmond, Okla.; four grandchildren, Matthew Frederking, Melissa Bagheri (Ryan), Crista Eggers (Easton), and Brett Shuman; five great-grandchildren, Espen, Brandon, and Luke Bagheri, Carsten and Colton Eggers; sister, Vera Benecke (Hal); brother, Carl Frederking (Ruby); brother-in-law, Jack Frain (Cheryl); and many friends.

The family will have a private memorial service with burial in Crown Point Cemetery, Culver.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Salina (designated "For Patient Care") or Trinity Lutheran Church, in care of Ryan Mortuary, Salina.

Jay H. Jensen, son of Herbert Jensen and Mildred (Schlamann) Jensen was born October 20, 1953 at Superior, NE and passed away on August 20, 2020 at his home in Chester, NE at the age of 66.

Jay was raised on a farm near Hardy, NE with six siblings: John, Jesse, Jim, Jerry, Jolene and Serita. &nbsp;He was baptized on November 8, 1953 at Salem Lutheran Church, Superior, NE and confirmed at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Hardy, NE.&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp;He attended school in Hardy, NE and graduated in 1972 from Hardy High School.&nbsp; In high school he was active in band, football and basketball. He went two years at Curtis Vo Tech College in Curtis, NE.&nbsp;

Jay was united in marriage on April 15, 1978 to Linda Kapperman and to this union 3 children were born, Michael, Kevin and Jenilee.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

Jays favorite things were faith, family, especially grandkids, farming, classic cars, horses and his coffee times with friends and talks with the neighbors.

He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, Chester, NE, where he held various church offices and served as head usher.&nbsp;

He was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert and Mildred Jensen, two brothers, John Jensen and Jesse Jensen.

He is survived by his wife, Linda Jensen of Chester, NE, two sons, Michael Jensen of Chester, NE, Kevin (Karen) Jensen of Rockford, IL, one daughter, Jenilee Harms (Jordan) of Chester, NE, three grandchildren, Hayden, Tabitha and Harlow, two brothers, James Jensen of Nelson, NE, Jerry (Gail) Jensen of North Platte, NE, two sisters, Jolene (Steve) Palandri of York, NE, Serita (Darold) Karmazin of Lincoln, NE sister in laws, Merideth Jensen of Clay Center, NE, Carolyn&nbsp; Jensen of Superior, NE, nieces, nephews, cousins, neighbors and many friends

&nbsp; Wynfred H. "Winnie" Chandler, 86, of McPherson, Kansas passed away at 2:56 p.m., Thursday, August 20th, 2020 while in the company of family members, at Angel Arms. Wynfred Chandler better known as Winnie was born in Checotah, Oklahoma on June 13, 1934 to Jesse and Leona “Landrum” Chandler. Winnie was the third of five children. He attended Rentiesville High school where he was a stand out Basketball player. Winnie accepted Christ at a young ageand was a current member of Morning Star Baptist Church in McPherson, Kansas under the leadership of Reverend James Hollis. Winnie met the love of his life Velma McPherson in Checotah, Oklahomain June of 1954. Shortly after they relocated to McPherson, Kansas. To this union three sons were born, Victor, Gary and Dwayne. While raising and supporting his family, Winnie worked as the manager of the American Legion Post 24 for several years prior to starting with N.C.R.A. in the 70's. Through the years with N.C.R.A. he worked as an employee, operator, and retired as an operator 3 in the mid 1990's. Winnie was an outdoorsman. He enjoyed fishing, camping and hunting. However, his greatest thrill was recognizing his athletic ability’s that were passed down to all three of his sons and grandchldren. He found the most joy in attending all their various sporting events from basketball, baseball, football and track. After retirement, he found relaxation watching college basketball, football and various western movies and shows. He was a great dad, and proud grandfather and excellent husband. Winnie took pride in making sure Velma’s every need was met until his very last breath. Winfred was proceeded in death by his parents Leona and Jessie chandler and three siblings Russell, Olbra Chandler, and Minnie Wallace . He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of over 65 years, Velma Chandler, of McPherson; her sons, Victor Chandler and wife Jan, Gary Chandler and wife Donna, and Dwayne Chandler and wife Jendy, all of Wichita, Kansa; his baby sister, Ruth Cooper and husband Alfonso, of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; and a host of Grand-kids, Great Grand-kids family and friends. Luci was born on April 17, 1924, in Walnut Grove, MO, the daughter of Arthur Claud and Ella Elizabeth (Adams) Hurd. She had two brothers, Luther and Glen, and two sisters, Allie and Gladys. She was a Springfield, MO resident most of her life. On April 15, 1955, Luci was united in marriage to Joseph Collins. Luci retired from Springfield City Utilities in 1972 and moved to McPherson, KS in 2006 to be near her nephew, Archie (Margaret) Smith and their extended families. She was a member of the United Methodist Church, and in her earlier years, she enjoyed playing golf with the ladies group. She also loved spending time at the lake. Survivors include: niece-in-law, Margaret Smith of McPherson, KS; nieces &amp; nephews, Jim Hurd of Springfield, MO, Ben Hurd of Springfield, MO, Howell Henderson of Webb City, MO, and Jeanne Butcher of Springfield, MO; great-nieces &amp; nephews, Glenda (Ken) Sims of McPherson, KS, Marla (Jeff) Jones of Pleasant Hill, MO, Kelly (Rad) Sykes of Blairsville, GA, Kristy (Brian) Pliler of Webb City, MO, and Nicholas (Kayla) Henderson of Webb City, MO; and numerous great-great-nieces &amp; nephews and great-great-great-nieces &amp; nephews. Valerie A Thatcher, 64, died August 21, 2020.&nbsp; She was born August 26, 1955, the daughter of Roy and Helen (Rock) Cowing.&nbsp; She grew up and attended school in Clay Center.&nbsp; She married Charlie Mellies in 1973 and they later divorced.&nbsp; She married Jim Thatcher, Sr. in 1977 and they later divorced.&nbsp; Valerie worked for Gentronics, Yellow Brick Enterprises and Key Milling.&nbsp; She also worked as a cook and waitress for Mac’s, the Suzy Q and the Clay Center Sale Barn.&nbsp; She met her companion, Bill Petersen in 1998 and he survives.&nbsp; Valerie was a member of the Clay Center Eagles Lodge.&nbsp; She also enjoyed shopping at garage sales, playing Bingo and helping other people and animals, especially dogs. &nbsp;

She is preceded in death by her parents, brothers, Dennis and Brian Sutherland and sister, Rosemary Gonser.

Valerie A Thatcher

Clinton James Sewell was born on May 19th, 1941 in Beloit, Kansas, the son of Samuel and Irene (Burger) Sewell. He passed away on August 19th, 2020 in Lawrence, Kansas at the age of 79.

Clint grew up in Beloit; after high school he spent 2 years at Fort Hays State College in pre-engineering, and then transferred to Kansas State University where he completed his degree in mechanical engineering as a member of Pi Tau Sigma, the mechanical engineering international honor society. He married Barbara Litton in 1959, and in 1969 they welcomed a daughter, Krystal. After he graduated from Kansas State University, he took a job with the US Navy working at what was then called Naval Ordnance Lab White Oak near Silver Spring, Maryland, just outside Washington D.C. He filed 8 patents for projects he worked on while part of the lab.

Clint married his second wife, Gayle Ford, in 1975. They felt a desire to get back to the land, and bought some farmland just south of Beloit, on what would eventually become Izzy Trail. The farm operated as The Sunshine Factory, a pottery studio, vegetable farm, and star-crossed fruit orchard. They were a great hit with the Sunny Slope folks, bringing fresh vegetables into the community each summer for many years. Clint also taught pottery classes in his studio, and The Sunshine Factory was a regular exhibitor at many craft festivals over the years, selling pottery, macramé, and art. They welcomed a son, Jacob, to their life in 1978. Clint and Gayle were founding members of the Willow Springs Arts Council and helped create the Chautauqua arts festival, which ran for many years each fall in Beloit’s Chautauqua Park. Clint was very involved with the Arts Council’s purchase and renovation of the Union Pacific Depot to be used as a meeting and performance space.

Clint joined his father at Sewell’s Machine Shop, building custom wood-burning stoves. On Sam’s retirement, Clint took over the shop and ran it as Sewell Machine until his retirement in 2018. He took an active interest in keeping the art of blacksmithing alive, attending get-togethers with other interested metal workers in the Midwest. He will be remembered as a man of quiet intellect and dry wit.

Clint is survived by his wife Gayle, his daughter Krystal Sewell and husband Tim Pricer of Montpelier, Vermont, and son Jacob Sewell and wife Alana Kramer of Lawrence, as well as two grandchildren, Samuel and Lydia Sewell of Lawrence.

He was predeceased by father Samuel Sewell, previous wife Barbara Lytton, and mother Irene Sewell.

In light of current events, no formal service is currently scheduled, but memorials may be given to the Mitchell County Historical Society, the Mitchell County Food Pantry, the Kansas Humanities Council, and/or No Kid Hungry.

They were a great hit with the Sunny Slope folks, bringing fresh vegetables into the community each summer for many years. Clint also taught pottery classes in his studio, and The Sunshine Factory was a regular exhibitor at many craft festivals over the years, selling pottery, macramé, and art. They welcomed a son, Jacob, to their life in 1978. Clint and Gayle were founding members of the Willow Springs Arts Council and helped create the Chautauqua arts festival, which ran for many years each fall in Beloit’s Chautauqua Park. Clint was very involved with the Arts Council’s purchase and renovation of the Union Pacific Depot to be used as a meeting and performance space.Clint joined his father at Sewell’s Machine Shop, building custom wood-burning stoves. On Sam’s retirement, Clint took over the shop and ran it as Sewell Machine until his retirement in 2018. He took an active interest in keeping the art of blacksmithing alive, attending get-togethers with other interested metal workers in the Midwest. He will be remembered as a man of quiet intellect and dry wit.Clint is survived by his wife Gayle, his daughter Krystal Sewell and husband Tim Pricer of Montpelier, Vermont, and son Jacob Sewell and wife Alana Kramer of Lawrence, as well as two grandchildren, Samuel and Lydia Sewell of Lawrence.He was predeceased by father Samuel Sewell, previous wife Barbara Lytton, and mother Irene Sewell.In light of current events, no formal service is currently scheduled, but memorials may be given to the Mitchell County Historical Society, the Mitchell County Food Pantry, the Kansas Humanities Council, and/or No Kid Hungry.

Myrial was a member of Emmaus Church, employed as a florist at Dillons Stores in El Dorado&nbsp;and Newton. She loved painting and using her artistic abilities. She was preceded in death by her parents; siblings, Ervin, Erna, Leona, Etta, Lawrence, and Wilmer. Her loving family includes her husband, DuWayne&nbsp;of the home; sons, Reg Wiebe (Tiffany) of El Dorado, KS, Chad Wiebe (Leanna) of Kiev, Ukraine; daughters, Dawn (Chris) Blasdel of Wichita, KS, Carol (Bert) Warren of Des Moines, IA; sister, Leila Kornelson of Saskatchewan, Canada. Myrial leaves behind 11 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. Armand F. Racette, 98 years of age, of Concordia passed away Thursday, August 20, 2020 at Mount Joseph Senior Village in Concordia, Kansas.&nbsp; He was born on March 6, 1922 in Aurora, Kansas to Snine and Adelia (Deneault) Racette, the only son of 4 children.

After graduating from Concordia High School in 1941, he joined the Army to serve his country.&nbsp; Armand served in WWII as a machine gunner with the 86th&nbsp;Infantry Division stationed in Europe and the South Pacific.&nbsp; While serving his country, he earned the Bronze Star, 2 Purple Hearts and the Combat Infantryman Badge along with several other medals.

Armand and Ruth (Mosher) White were married on Oct. 9, 1954. She preceded him on Sept. 1, 2010. Armand was also blessed with three step children from this marriage, Beverley, Tom and Delores.He began in business by opening his own business until joining Hedges Neon Signs of Salina, where he worked as an advertising design engineer.&nbsp; Armand was very active in the community, serving in and holding many high positions in the Masonic Lodge and Boy Scouts.&nbsp; He also served as a City Commissioner and served the City of Concordia.

Armand is survived by 5 step grandchildren, several step great grandchildren, many nieces, nephews and friend, Gerald Chavey and his family.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth; parents; sisters, Lela M. Russ, Angeline Richard &amp; Blanche Christian; step daughters, Delores Bombardier &amp; Beverley Scholl; step sons, Raymond &amp; Thomas White.

Cremation has taken place and a Memorial Graveside Service will be held 1:30 p.m., Friday, August 28, 2020, in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Concordia with military honors by Fort Riley, American Legion Post #76 &amp; VFW Post #588.&nbsp; Friends may sign the register book from 9 am to 5 pm, Thursday, August 27, 2020 at Chaput-Buoy Funeral Home, Concordia.

Raymond Eugene Anderson, 78, of Salina, passed away Tuesday, August 18, 2020. He was born on April 4, 1942, in Lincoln, KS, to George and Zola Anderson.

Raymond worked at The Salina Journal while attending classes at Kansas Wesleyan University, where he graduated in 1965, with a degree in Elementary Education and a minor in Psychology. He married the love of his life, Rosemary Cassaw, on August 10, 1963, and was blessed with 3 children. While attending the University, Raymond joined the United States Navy and upon graduation, attended Officers Candidate School in Newport, Rhode Island. His first tour of duty was as a Weapons Officer on board the USS Wiltsie stationed in San Diego, California. His Navy career took him and his family to many different states and countries before retiring in 1985, after 20 years of service, and attaining the rank of Lieutenant Commander.

After retiring from the Service, Raymond joined the staff at Shawnee Mission North High School, Overland Park, Kansas, as a Naval Science Instructor for the NJROTC Program, retiring after 20 years of service.

In 2004, Raymond and Rosemary returned home to Salina, and Raymond went to work for Salina Auto Auction, where he took great pride in his job. His other interest and hobbies included traveling with his wife, taking care of his "green" lawn, and telling wild stories at the local VFW while drinking a good, cold beer. He is and was loved greatly by many family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents: George and Zola Anderson, sisters: Bonnie Packard and Ruth Parker, and brothers: Ivan Anderson and Bill Anderson. Raymond is survived by his wife: Rosemary Cassaw Anderson, daughters: Jennifer Morlan (Don) and Pamela Apell (Marc), and son: Jeff Anderson (Kimberly), grandchildren: Ashlee Morlan (Josh), Haylee Morlan (Weston), Chloe Morlan (Dalen), Hobs Apell, Emily Apell, Camderan Still, and Mona Still, great-grandchildren: Kaylen, Reagan, Marleigh, Hendryx, Zeppelynn and Scarlet.

Visitation will be at Ryan Mortuary on Monday, August 24th at 1:00 p.m. with services following at 1:30 p.m. Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery.

BROOKVILLE –&nbsp;Donna L. Vanier, 85, passed away Saturday, May 23, 2020.

The scriptures say, “To whom much is given, much will be required.” Luke 12:48. To Donna Vanier, this was much more than Biblical council. It was a way of life. Born in Salina, Kansas, on October 24, 1934 to Willis and Helen Lindsey, Donna is preceded in death by her parents and brother, Douglas.

She is survived by her husband of 65 years, John K. (Jack) Vanier, daughter Mary Vanier of Manhattan, daughter Dr. Marty Vanier of Manhattan and her stepchildren Katie, Kirsten and Kathy, and son John K. Vanier II of Salina, his daughters Lauren and Sarah, his wife Kim, and stepchildren Pallie, Landon, Jess, Ty, Jake &amp; Norah.

Donna Vanier possessed an outlook on life that focused on others and needed to look no further than her own family and community to make a difference.

When her family’s way of life called, Donna replied with time, talent and treasure. Donna lived most of her adult life with her husband on the CK Ranch outside of Brookville, Kansas. As matriarch of a ranch family, Donna’s commitment to their way of life did not stop at the fence line. She worked harder at CK Ranch than anyone; active in all aspects of the cattle business including producing the ranch’s annual production sale catalogs, hosting countless ranch tour groups, tracking cattle inventories, and making employees and their families feel valued and appreciated. Her dedication and support of her family and her family’s work was motivated by care and kindness. She was one of the founders of the American Hereford Association Auxiliary and sought to ensure leadership in the next generation of agriculture by offering scholarships through the Hereford Youth Foundation and the Kansas 4-H Foundation.

When Salina Kansas called, Donna Vanier answered with benevolence. She served as the driving force behind the creation of the Donna L. Vanier Children’s Center which opened in 2012. Donna also served many years as: treasurer of the Christ Cathedral Episcopal Church and the Episcopal Diocese of Western Kansas; founding board member of the Greater Salina Community Foundation; Chair of the governing Boards of the Salina Regional Health Foundation, the Rolling Hills Museum, and St. John’s Military School; and was a contributing member to countless other local boards and organizations.

When Kansas State University called, Donna responded with generosity. At Kansas State, her service and leadership included roles on the KSU Foundation Board of Directors, the Ahearn Scholarship Board, where she originated the Powercat Auction, and Chair of the Beach Museum of Art Board of Visitors. Through these acts and countless others, Donna earned the Kansas State University Medal of Excellence, which recognizes those who have advanced K-State through exceptional service, leadership and philanthropic contributions.

When her friends and family called, Donna was always there with love. Not one to forget a birthday, anniversary or other significant milestone, Donna was the truest of friends and a source of wisdom and kindness. Her many friends from the Salina area, the cattle business and the K-State family brought her immense joy.

To whom much is given, much will be required. The scripture from Luke is an exhortation to vigilance. Generosity, strength, benevolence, toughness, vigilance. Over the generations, the Kansas culture has cultivated an apt description for people like Donna Vanier. She was a do-gooder. Wherever she went, Donna Vanier did good. The scripture ends, “And of him to whom they have entrusted much, they will demand more.” Donna understood innately what God expected of her and her life reflected it.

&nbsp; Darrel “Gene” Brax, 87, of Assaria, passed away August 21, 2020. Gene was born January 4, 1933 to his parents Peter Einar Brax and Clara Victoria Lindholm Brax, on his parent’s farm 2 miles northwest of Smolan, Kansas on the farm that was homesteaded by his great-grandfather, John Wahlstrom. Gene’s father, Peter, came from Ostergottland, Sweden in 1997 at the age of 21. Gene attended school at Washington #43, Smolan, Kansas until 1942. At that time, the U.S. Government took over the family farm for the Army’s Camp Phillips which caused the Brax family to move to a farm south of Abilene, Kansas. He graduated from Abilene High School in 1950 and worked for KP&amp;L before joining the Navy. In the Navy, he was a Structural mechanic 3rd Class until his discharge at which time he worked for Salina’s KP&amp;L. On June 6, 1956, Gene joined the US Postal Service as a Salina letter carrier and then a rural mail carrier in the Salina, New Cambria, and Gypsum area for 42 years. Gene enjoyed the outdoor life, farming and believed in helping people. He was most proud of his record of donating 90+ pints of blood to the American Red Cross. He was active in the following: Saline County Rural Fire Department #2 in Assaria, Lions Clubs, American Legion, RSVP, Saline County Rural Water District #3 Board of Directors, and the 4-H clubs in the Mentor area. He was baptized and a confirmed member of the Salemsborg Lutheran Church where he also served on the Church’s Council. Gene was preceded in death by his two sisters, Mary Ann Rodie and Evelyn Brax and brother-in-law, Charles O. Smith. Gene is survived by his wife of 35 years, Jan Jeffers Varner Brax; their children, Jon Brax (Judy), Lori Brax, Peggy Varner Beckley (Roger) and Jay Varner (LeeAnn); ten grandchildren, Hayden Brax, Garrett Brax, Ryan Johnson, Carin Rogers (Chase), Adam Johnson, Nicole Beckley Demars (Jason) Megan Beckley, Madison Varner, Lindsay Curl, Jami Noone (Brad); six great-grandchildren, Colt Demars, Chloe Demars, Terra Beckley, Sam Noone, Sadie Noone, and Lincoln Rogers; and his sister, Verna Smith of Lindsborg, Kansas. At Gene’s request, cremation and no services were chosen. He will be interred at the Salemsborg Cemetery. Ohio St., Salina, Kansas 67401, for the care and maintenance of the altar painting that was saved from the church fire.&nbsp;&nbsp;

He was active in the following: Saline County Rural Fire Department #2 in Assaria, Lions Clubs, American Legion, RSVP, Saline County Rural Water District #3 Board of Directors, and the 4-H clubs in the Mentor area. He was baptized and a confirmed member of the Salemsborg Lutheran Church where he also served on the Church’s Council. Gene was preceded in death by his two sisters, Mary Ann Rodie and Evelyn Brax and brother-in-law, Charles O. Smith. Gene is survived by his wife of 35 years, Jan Jeffers Varner Brax; their children, Jon Brax (Judy), Lori Brax, Peggy Varner Beckley (Roger) and Jay Varner (LeeAnn); ten grandchildren, Hayden Brax, Garrett Brax, Ryan Johnson, Carin Rogers (Chase), Adam Johnson, Nicole Beckley Demars (Jason) Megan Beckley, Madison Varner, Lindsay Curl, Jami Noone (Brad); six great-grandchildren, Colt Demars, Chloe Demars, Terra Beckley, Sam Noone, Sadie Noone, and Lincoln Rogers; and his sister, Verna Smith of Lindsborg, Kansas. At Gene’s request, cremation and no services were chosen. He will be interred at the Salemsborg Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Salemsborg Lutheran Church, sent in care of Carlson-Geisendorf Funeral Home, 500 S. Ohio St., Salina, Kansas 67401, for the care and maintenance of the altar painting that was saved from the church fire.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Darrel “Gene” Brax

Adam Brayboy, age 37, passed away peacefully on Monday August 17, 2020. He was born on April 24, 1983 to father Tommie and mother Yong Kae Brayboy. He is also survived by his grandmother In Sook Park, sister Spring Flowers Brayboy, nephew Kaeden Brayboy, nieces Korina, Eisleigh, and Jentry Brayboy. He was a 2014 graduate from K-State Salina studying Construction Engineering and Business Management.

He was a reliable employee at Walmart and had hopes to become a manager someday. He truly enjoyed working there and meeting new people daily. His smile was contagious. It lit up a room.

Adam loved baseball and football. He was a devout KC Royals and KC Chiefs fan. He enjoyed going to as many home games as he could. His hobbies included collecting sports memorabilia. He could name off any facts about the history and present of these two KC teams.

Loving son whom his parents were eternally proud of. Trusting brother whose sister always had his back. An amazing Uncle to his nephew and nieces. He loved playing with them and chasing them around the house. He always had time to take a selfie with them.

He was a dedicated man that had high ambitions. He will be missed tremendously by everyone that knew him, but he was just passing through. He isnâ€™t suffering anymore and has gone to a perfect place. His family loves him greatly and look forward to seeing him in Heaven someday.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, August 20, at Ryan Mortuary, Salina. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, August 21, at Faith Baptist Church, 639 Max Ave., Salina. Burial will follow in Gypsum Hill Cemetery, Salina.

Lois Louise Myers, 89, of Lindsborg passed away Sunday, August 16, 2020 at Via Christie St. Francis, Wichita.  Lois was born April 25, 1931 in Glen Elder, KS to the late Earl and Velma (Linton) White.  

Lois was the widow of the late Irvin Myers, her husband of 69 years. Lois was a wife and mother, a legal secretary, and a real estate agent. She was a member of the Evangelical Covenant Church in Lindsborg.  

She is survived by her daughter: Deborrah Wann Eberhart (David); son: John Myers (Debra); sister: Arleta Carlton; granddaughters: Erin Ashley Abuel (Dave), Tabitha Bach (Isaac), Alyssa Caudill (Drake), Crystal Sathyaraj (Jeevan), and Amanda Dick (Dustin); as well as 15 great grandchildren.

Lois is preceded in death by her parents; husband; infant daughter: Rebekah; brothers: Robert and Richard White; and sister: Alice Ramsey.

Visitation will be Thursday, August 20 from 5-7PM at Christians Funeral Home, 103 N. Washington, Lindsborg, KS.

The funeral will be held 10:00 am on Friday, August 21 at the Evangelical Covenant Church, 102 S. Washington, Lindsborg, KS with Pastor Darrel Cooper officiating.  Burial will be in Downs Cemetery, Downs , KS at 2:30 pm.
