Armand F. Racette, 98 years of age, of Concordia passed away Thursday, August 20, 2020 at Mount Joseph Senior Village in Concordia, Kansas.&nbsp; He was born on March 6, 1922 in Aurora, Kansas to Snine and Adelia (Deneault) Racette, the only son of 4 children.

After graduating from Concordia High School in 1941, he joined the Army to serve his country.&nbsp; Armand served in WWII as a machine gunner with the 86th&nbsp;Infantry Division stationed in Europe and the South Pacific.&nbsp; While serving his country, he earned the Bronze Star, 2 Purple Hearts and the Combat Infantryman Badge along with several other medals.

Armand and Ruth (Mosher) White were married on Oct. 9, 1954. She preceded him on Sept. 1, 2010. Armand was also blessed with three step children from this marriage, Beverley, Tom and Delores.He began in business by opening his own business until joining Hedges Neon Signs of Salina, where he worked as an advertising design engineer.&nbsp; Armand was very active in the community, serving in and holding many high positions in the Masonic Lodge and Boy Scouts.&nbsp; He also served as a City Commissioner and served the City of Concordia.

Armand is survived by 5 step grandchildren, several step great grandchildren, many nieces, nephews and friend, Gerald Chavey and his family.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth; parents; sisters, Lela M. Russ, Angeline Richard &amp; Blanche Christian; step daughters, Delores Bombardier &amp; Beverley Scholl; step sons, Raymond &amp; Thomas White.

Cremation has taken place and a Memorial Graveside Service will be held 1:30 p.m., Friday, August 28, 2020, in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Concordia with military honors by Fort Riley, American Legion Post #76 &amp; VFW Post #588.&nbsp; Friends may sign the register book from 9 am to 5 pm, Thursday, August 27, 2020 at Chaput-Buoy Funeral Home, Concordia.

Raymond Eugene Anderson, 78, of Salina, passed away Tuesday, August 18, 2020. He was born on April 4, 1942, in Lincoln, KS, to George and Zola Anderson.

Raymond worked at The Salina Journal while attending classes at Kansas Wesleyan University, where he graduated in 1965, with a degree in Elementary Education and a minor in Psychology. He married the love of his life, Rosemary Cassaw, on August 10, 1963, and was blessed with 3 children. While attending the University, Raymond joined the United States Navy and upon graduation, attended Officers Candidate School in Newport, Rhode Island. His first tour of duty was as a Weapons Officer on board the USS Wiltsie stationed in San Diego, California. His Navy career took him and his family to many different states and countries before retiring in 1985, after 20 years of service, and attaining the rank of Lieutenant Commander.

After retiring from the Service, Raymond joined the staff at Shawnee Mission North High School, Overland Park, Kansas, as a Naval Science Instructor for the NJROTC Program, retiring after 20 years of service.

In 2004, Raymond and Rosemary returned home to Salina, and Raymond went to work for Salina Auto Auction, where he took great pride in his job. His other interest and hobbies included traveling with his wife, taking care of his "green" lawn, and telling wild stories at the local VFW while drinking a good, cold beer. He is and was loved greatly by many family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents: George and Zola Anderson, sisters: Bonnie Packard and Ruth Parker, and brothers: Ivan Anderson and Bill Anderson. Raymond is survived by his wife: Rosemary Cassaw Anderson, daughters: Jennifer Morlan (Don) and Pamela Apell (Marc), and son: Jeff Anderson (Kimberly), grandchildren: Ashlee Morlan (Josh), Haylee Morlan (Weston), Chloe Morlan (Dalen), Hobs Apell, Emily Apell, Camderan Still, and Mona Still, great-grandchildren: Kaylen, Reagan, Marleigh, Hendryx, Zeppelynn and Scarlet.

Visitation will be at Ryan Mortuary on Monday, August 24th at 1:00 p.m. with services following at 1:30 p.m. Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery.

BROOKVILLE –&nbsp;Donna L. Vanier, 85, passed away Saturday, May 23, 2020.

The scriptures say, “To whom much is given, much will be required.” Luke 12:48. To Donna Vanier, this was much more than Biblical council. It was a way of life. Born in Salina, Kansas, on October 24, 1934 to Willis and Helen Lindsey, Donna is preceded in death by her parents and brother, Douglas.

She is survived by her husband of 65 years, John K. (Jack) Vanier, daughter Mary Vanier of Manhattan, daughter Dr. Marty Vanier of Manhattan and her stepchildren Katie, Kirsten and Kathy, and son John K. Vanier II of Salina, his daughters Lauren and Sarah, his wife Kim, and stepchildren Pallie, Landon, Jess, Ty, Jake &amp; Norah.

Donna Vanier possessed an outlook on life that focused on others and needed to look no further than her own family and community to make a difference.

When her family’s way of life called, Donna replied with time, talent and treasure. Donna lived most of her adult life with her husband on the CK Ranch outside of Brookville, Kansas. As matriarch of a ranch family, Donna’s commitment to their way of life did not stop at the fence line. She worked harder at CK Ranch than anyone; active in all aspects of the cattle business including producing the ranch’s annual production sale catalogs, hosting countless ranch tour groups, tracking cattle inventories, and making employees and their families feel valued and appreciated. Her dedication and support of her family and her family’s work was motivated by care and kindness. She was one of the founders of the American Hereford Association Auxiliary and sought to ensure leadership in the next generation of agriculture by offering scholarships through the Hereford Youth Foundation and the Kansas 4-H Foundation.

When Salina Kansas called, Donna Vanier answered with benevolence. She served as the driving force behind the creation of the Donna L. Vanier Children’s Center which opened in 2012. Donna also served many years as: treasurer of the Christ Cathedral Episcopal Church and the Episcopal Diocese of Western Kansas; founding board member of the Greater Salina Community Foundation; Chair of the governing Boards of the Salina Regional Health Foundation, the Rolling Hills Museum, and St. John’s Military School; and was a contributing member to countless other local boards and organizations.

When Kansas State University called, Donna responded with generosity. At Kansas State, her service and leadership included roles on the KSU Foundation Board of Directors, the Ahearn Scholarship Board, where she originated the Powercat Auction, and Chair of the Beach Museum of Art Board of Visitors. Through these acts and countless others, Donna earned the Kansas State University Medal of Excellence, which recognizes those who have advanced K-State through exceptional service, leadership and philanthropic contributions.

When her friends and family called, Donna was always there with love. Not one to forget a birthday, anniversary or other significant milestone, Donna was the truest of friends and a source of wisdom and kindness. Her many friends from the Salina area, the cattle business and the K-State family brought her immense joy.

To whom much is given, much will be required. The scripture from Luke is an exhortation to vigilance. Generosity, strength, benevolence, toughness, vigilance. Over the generations, the Kansas culture has cultivated an apt description for people like Donna Vanier. She was a do-gooder. Wherever she went, Donna Vanier did good. The scripture ends, “And of him to whom they have entrusted much, they will demand more.” Donna understood innately what God expected of her and her life reflected it.

&nbsp; Darrel “Gene” Brax, 87, of Assaria, passed away August 21, 2020. Gene was born January 4, 1933 to his parents Peter Einar Brax and Clara Victoria Lindholm Brax, on his parent’s farm 2 miles northwest of Smolan, Kansas on the farm that was homesteaded by his great-grandfather, John Wahlstrom. Gene’s father, Peter, came from Ostergottland, Sweden in 1997 at the age of 21. Gene attended school at Washington #43, Smolan, Kansas until 1942. At that time, the U.S. Government took over the family farm for the Army’s Camp Phillips which caused the Brax family to move to a farm south of Abilene, Kansas. He graduated from Abilene High School in 1950 and worked for KP&amp;L before joining the Navy. In the Navy, he was a Structural mechanic 3rd Class until his discharge at which time he worked for Salina’s KP&amp;L. On June 6, 1956, Gene joined the US Postal Service as a Salina letter carrier and then a rural mail carrier in the Salina, New Cambria, and Gypsum area for 42 years. Gene enjoyed the outdoor life, farming and believed in helping people. He was most proud of his record of donating 90+ pints of blood to the American Red Cross. He was active in the following: Saline County Rural Fire Department #2 in Assaria, Lions Clubs, American Legion, RSVP, Saline County Rural Water District #3 Board of Directors, and the 4-H clubs in the Mentor area. He was baptized and a confirmed member of the Salemsborg Lutheran Church where he also served on the Church’s Council. Gene was preceded in death by his two sisters, Mary Ann Rodie and Evelyn Brax and brother-in-law, Charles O. Smith. Gene is survived by his wife of 35 years, Jan Jeffers Varner Brax; their children, Jon Brax (Judy), Lori Brax, Peggy Varner Beckley (Roger) and Jay Varner (LeeAnn); ten grandchildren, Hayden Brax, Garrett Brax, Ryan Johnson, Carin Rogers (Chase), Adam Johnson, Nicole Beckley Demars (Jason) Megan Beckley, Madison Varner, Lindsay Curl, Jami Noone (Brad); six great-grandchildren, Colt Demars, Chloe Demars, Terra Beckley, Sam Noone, Sadie Noone, and Lincoln Rogers; and his sister, Verna Smith of Lindsborg, Kansas. At Gene’s request, cremation and no services were chosen. He will be interred at the Salemsborg Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Salemsborg Lutheran Church, sent in care of Carlson-Geisendorf Funeral Home, 500 S. Ohio St., Salina, Kansas 67401, for the care and maintenance of the altar painting that was saved from the church fire.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Adam Brayboy, age 37, passed away peacefully on Monday August 17, 2020. He was born on April 24, 1983 to father Tommie and mother Yong Kae Brayboy. He is also survived by his grandmother In Sook Park, sister Spring Flowers Brayboy, nephew Kaeden Brayboy, nieces Korina, Eisleigh, and Jentry Brayboy. He was a 2014 graduate from K-State Salina studying Construction Engineering and Business Management.

He was a reliable employee at Walmart and had hopes to become a manager someday. He truly enjoyed working there and meeting new people daily. His smile was contagious. It lit up a room.

Adam loved baseball and football. He was a devout KC Royals and KC Chiefs fan. He enjoyed going to as many home games as he could. His hobbies included collecting sports memorabilia. He could name off any facts about the history and present of these two KC teams.

Loving son whom his parents were eternally proud of. Trusting brother whose sister always had his back. An amazing Uncle to his nephew and nieces. He loved playing with them and chasing them around the house. He always had time to take a selfie with them.

He was a dedicated man that had high ambitions. He will be missed tremendously by everyone that knew him, but he was just passing through. He isnâ€™t suffering anymore and has gone to a perfect place. His family loves him greatly and look forward to seeing him in Heaven someday.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, August 20, at Ryan Mortuary, Salina. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, August 21, at Faith Baptist Church, 639 Max Ave., Salina. Burial will follow in Gypsum Hill Cemetery, Salina.

Lois Louise Myers, 89, of Lindsborg passed away Sunday, August 16, 2020 at Via Christie St. Francis, Wichita.  Lois was born April 25, 1931 in Glen Elder, KS to the late Earl and Velma (Linton) White.  

Lois was the widow of the late Irvin Myers, her husband of 69 years. Lois was a wife and mother, a legal secretary, and a real estate agent. She was a member of the Evangelical Covenant Church in Lindsborg.  

She is survived by her daughter: Deborrah Wann Eberhart (David); son: John Myers (Debra); sister: Arleta Carlton; granddaughters: Erin Ashley Abuel (Dave), Tabitha Bach (Isaac), Alyssa Caudill (Drake), Crystal Sathyaraj (Jeevan), and Amanda Dick (Dustin); as well as 15 great grandchildren.

Lois is preceded in death by her parents; husband; infant daughter: Rebekah; brothers: Robert and Richard White; and sister: Alice Ramsey.

Visitation will be Thursday, August 20 from 5-7PM at Christians Funeral Home, 103 N. Washington, Lindsborg, KS.

The funeral will be held 10:00 am on Friday, August 21 at the Evangelical Covenant Church, 102 S. Washington, Lindsborg, KS with Pastor Darrel Cooper officiating.  Burial will be in Downs Cemetery, Downs , KS at 2:30 pm.

Leona's life began on October 12, 1924 in Lost Springs.  She was the daughter of Henry and Pauline (Deines) Albright. 

 Leona was a 1942 graduate of Herington High School. 

 She worked as a switchboard operator as a young lady and later went to work in the IGA Grocery for many years. 

 Leona was a dedicated and hard-working mother for her children Jeanne and Jim.  

Leona was a parishioner at Holy Family Parish- St. Marks in Marion and had been active in the St. Mark's Quilters. 

 Her loving family includes her children Jeanne (Lyle) Gillett of Marion, and James (Nanette) Manhart of Weaverville, NC; grandchildren Kirk Gillett of Springdale, AR, Kyle (Andi) Gillett of Winfield and Kristy (Jeremy) Mohn of Olathe; great grandchildren Avery and Rylan Mohn; and siblings Gallard ( Regina) Albright of Wichita, Glenn (Waleah) Albright of Wichita, Edith Warneke of Marion, and Mary Lee Peckenschneider of Wichita.  

Leona passed away on August 18, 2020 in Hillsboro. 

 She is preceded in death by her parents and siblings Harold Albright, Edward Albright, and Edgar Albright. 

 Her family will gather with friends on Friday August 28th at 2 p.m. at Lewis Cemetery in Ramona for her graveside service led by Fr. Brian Bebak of Holy Family Parish. Billy "Bill" Wayne Weiserwent to be with the Lord on March 23, 2020 with his wife Teresa by his side at the age of 60. Bill was born June 29, 1959 in Miami, Florida to Elmer Weiser and Thelma (Boreman) Weiser. He was united in marriage on October 28, 2016, to Teresa Ryan.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents Elmer and Thelma Weiser; fur babies, Shivers, Tigger, Johnny Cat and Deacon.

He is survived by his wife Teresa, fur babies, Harley Marie, Laya, Sarge and Bindi Weiser of the home; step-daughter Rebecca Saunders (Jeremiah), of Lawrence; granddaughter, Chanel, soon to be granddaughter, Cali Rose; stepson Danny Williams, Gravois Mills, Missouri; sister Mary Eickleberry (Jay), Salina; uncle Doren Follis (Irene) of Hoxie; several nephews and many friends.

Bill proudly served his country as a United States Marine. He served in Beirut Lebanon, in October 1983, he also served as a nuke guard aboard the USS Dwight Eisenhauer and many other places.

Bill is now proudly guarding the gates of Heaven, pain free and at peace.

Cremation was selected so there will be no visitation.

Merrill E. McCall, 80, of Camdenton, MO, passed away August 17, 2020 at Lake Regional Hospital following a short illness.

He was born in Minneapolis, KS, on September 23, 1939, son of the late Ronald and Mildred Edmands McCall. He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Karen Van Tine McCall and his children, Mark (Sharon) McCall and grandson Zane DeLorme, Marcia (Bob) Myers and grandson Kyle Mark, Brother, Stuart (Janis) McCall as well as special nieces and nephews.

Merrill was a resident of Topeka, KS and a graduate of Topeka High School. Merrill attended Kansas State University and ultimately graduated from Washburn University. He was a veteran of the US Marine Reserves and a 37 year employee of State Farm Insurance from which he retired.

Merrill was a member of the Sound of Illinois Chorus, Bloomington, IL, and enjoyed many barbershop adventures with his quartet, The McLean County Chord Company.

Merrill and Karen retired to The Lake of the Ozarks and enjoyed boating, golfing, and were active members of the Elks Lodge 2705. Merrill was an avid fan of K-State football and was also able to enjoy some games in Manhattan. They especially enjoyed entertaining family as well as special friends.

A private family service will be held at 11:00 A.M., Friday August 21 at Highland Cemetery, Minneapolis.&nbsp; In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in memory of Merrill E. Darrell G. Claycamp was born May 5, 1937 in Hunter, Kansas to Emil and Inez (Diers) Claycamp and passed away August 17, 2020 at Salina Reginal Health Center in Salina, Kansas at the age of 83 years.

Darrell was a 1956 graduate of Mankato High School. Shortly after graduating high school he joined the National Guard. He then went to Boise, Idaho to learn and pursue his career as a painting contractor.

He married the love of his life, Emma Colby, on March 22, 1965,

He was a member of the Appaloosa Horse Club and Mankato Evangelical Lutheran Church.

Darrell enjoyed raising appaloosas, watching horse races and any sports played by both KU and K-State. He especially enjoyed watching and attending his grandchildren and great-grandchildren’s school events.

Darrell is survived by his wife, Emma; daughter, Gina Bulthaup (Mike) and sons, Nathan Bulthaup (Jacque) and their children: Kale, Jackson, Ashlynn &amp; Wren; and Nicolas Bulthaup all of Manhattan, Kansas; sisters, Lois Blass, Beloit and Leota McCarthy, Manhattan; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Curtis Lee Claycamp; brother, Wilbur Claycamp and 2 sisters, Louella Brunner and Kathy Rines.

September 11, 1931~August 16, 2020(age 88)

Vera Mae Gehring was born on September 11, 1931, to Dan and Pearl Gehring, on a small farm near Moundridge. She was the oldest of six children. (Five girls and one boy.) Even though her parents were hard working, they were considered to be poor. They lived in a small farm house with two bedrooms, no electricity, no running water and no indoor toilet. The five girls shared two regular sized beds.Vera recalled that they always had a large garden and canned 1,000 jars of fruit, vegetables and meat since they had no refrigeration. Her and her sisters always wore dresses made out of pretty feed bags to school and church. Her mom was a very good seamstress. Vera didn’t have a pair of jeans until her senior year in high school. Of the six children, Mary, the youngest, was the only one born in a hospital. Shortly after being born, the family moved to a farm near Whitewater where her and her siblings attended the Claypool one room country school with grades 1-8. She didn’t know how to speak English when she started school. Vera attended and graduated from Whitewater High School in 1949. Vera wanted to be a nurse or a teacher after high school, but marriage changed her direction.

She met Melvin Tilson at a friend’s wedding. She was a bridesmaid and he was the best man. After a short courtship they were married at Emmaus Church on September 22, 1949. They moved to Arkansas City and lived there for five years. Vera’s first job was working in a meat packing plant in Arkansas City. She always told us that if we ever saw how they made hot dogs we would never eat another one. While living in Arkansas City Vera and Melvin began their family with the birth of Terry in 1951, Judy in 1952 and Jerry in 1953. Vera and Melvin spent most of their married life in Whitewater where they owned and operated a small restaurant called the M &amp; V Café. After a number of years serving as a cook and waitress, Vera took a job as a school secretary in the Remington school district. She was at the grade school and then moved to the high school when Jerry started high school. She told Jerry she made the move to “keep an eye on him.” She said that of all the jobs she had, working at Remington was her favorite job. Following her time at Remington, Vera applied for the postal service and eventually became the Postmaster of Elbing until she retired in 1998.

Even though Vera was busy helping Melvin, she always found time to support the kids and grandkids in their involvement in various activities, she was also very supportive and helpful to the extended family through the years.

Melvin died after 43 years of marriage in 1992 and Vera married Jack Sprague in 1997 and they were married for 15 years before he died in 2012. Those who preceded her in death are her parents, Dan and Pearl Gehring; her husband, Melvin Tilson; her sister, Helen Rose; her husband, Jack Sprague and all of her brothers-in-law.

Vera is survived by her sister, Betty Breising of Wichita; brother Bill and Annetta Gehring of Newton; sister, Neva Arnold of Exeter, Missouri and sister, Mary Potter of Whitewater; her three children son, Terry and Connie Tilson of Newton, daughter, Judy and Tony Frieze of Chapman and son, Jerry and Glenda Tilson of Newton; twelve grandchildren; twenty-four great grandchildren and four great, great grandchildren.

Clifford Earl Vetter, 92, of Randall died Monday, August 17, 2020 at Resident Care Center, Beloit. Cliff was born September 24, 1927 to Reuben and Wilda (Treaster) Vetter on the family farm north of Solomon Rapids.&nbsp;

Cliff attended country school and graduated form Beloit High School in 1945. It was on August 20, 1950 that he married Nevada Beisner at her parents home in Natoma, KS. Four children were born to this union, Vickie, Elaine, Nancy, and Phil.

Cliff and Nevada moved to their farm home north of Randall and raised their family.&nbsp;

In his younger days, Cliff loved to ride horses and would tell stories about his brothers and him riding to school. His love was baseball and he talked about his teammates from Beloit and Glen Elder. Cliff was a farmer by heart with a cow/calf operation in his early years and then a cropland operation. As the children grew. He taught them to play baseball and went on short vacations. In later years he enjoyed attending grand-children and great grandchildren’s music programs, school plays, 4H Sports activities, and rodeo events. Cliff was a lifetime member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Beloit.

Cliff was preceded in death by his wife Nevada of 66 years, his parents, granddaughter Peggy Jean Peters, great-grandson Cayden Dunstan, brothers; Richard and Harry (Noel).&nbsp;

Those left to celebrate his life are children; Vickie (Scott) Fenner of Conway AR, Elaine (Daniel) Peters of Randall KS, Nancy (Bill) Buser of Jewell KS, Phil (Kristi) Vetter of Randall KS. Thirteen grandchildren, twenty-two great-grandchildren, sister-in-law Elsie Vetter of Wahoo NE, brother-in-law Jim Paschal of Lindsborg KS, and many other relatives and friends.&nbsp;

William “Bill” Meredith, age 80, passed away on Tuesday, August 18, 2020 at Sunset Nursing Home, Concordia, KS.&nbsp; He was born on Feb. 13, 1940 in South Bend, Indiana to Howard E. &amp; Beulah M.&nbsp; (Fox) Meredith.

Bill graduated from Mishawka High School in Indiana and joined the U.S. Marine Corps.&nbsp; He attended the University of Indiana an earned a Bachelor’s degree and later a Master’s degree in Criminal Justice.&nbsp;

He married Janet K. Esckelson on Jan. 29, 1965 in Indiana.&nbsp; They moved to Concordia, KS in 1982.&nbsp; He taught criminal justice and computer classes at Cloud County Community College until his retirement.&nbsp; He served as a Pastor and they were missionaries in Turkey, Turkmenistan, Bulgaria and Kazakhstan.&nbsp;

Bill was a member of the American Legion Post #76 and served on the International Mission Board.

He is survived by his wife, Janet, Concordia; daughters, Kim Mills (Travis), Ames &amp; Tina McManus (Rob), Concordia; son, Michael Meredith (Shari), Hays; foster daughter, Youlanda Willingham; 11 grandchildren &amp; 6 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, 3 brothers and a sister.

LaVerne L. Clintsman, age 84, passed away on Monday, August 17, 2020 at his residence, in Concordia.&nbsp; Laverne lived in many states, but considered Concordia his home for more than 60 years.

LaVerne was born on May 5, 1936 in Concordia, Kansas to Lloyd and Emma (Knipschild) Clintsman.

He was a 1955 graduate of Oxford High School in Oxford, Nebraska.&nbsp; He joined and served in the United States Army where he served in Germany and was honorably discharged in February 28, 1963.

LaVerne married Gloria Bouley in Belleville, Kansas on November 14, 1969, they would of Celebrated 52 years of marriage this November.

LaVerne was a member of the American Legion Post #76, V.F.W. Post #588, of Concordia.

Laverne was proud of being a veteran. He held office at the VFW and played the bugle for years at local funerals. Laverne was a maintenance worker at St. Joseph Hospital in Concordia and he also owned his own jig business, Streeker Manufacturing. He also owned and operated Clintsman Saw Shop sharpening saws of all kinds. He enjoyed children of all ages and taught Hunters Safety Classes at CCCC for many years. He worked for the Fish and Game Department monitoring water levels and fish species on the Republican River a few summers as well. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

His greatest pastime with fishing with his buddies at Milford Lake, or any other body of water with fish in it! The same bunch of buddies was known to frequent the local McDonalds for coffee every day they weren’t on the lake, sometimes making it twice a day. He also enjoyed hunting at Valek farms.

Laverne was a friend to many and will be missed by all. &nbsp;

LaVerne is survived by his wife Gloria, Concordia, KS; a son, Bob Kohrs (Sharyl), Lindsborg, KS; 2 daughters, Terri O’Connor (Brian), Concordia, KS; Kelly Alderson (Jerry), Sedgwick, KS; He had 4 grandchildren, Seth Alderson Sedgwick, Kansas, Stephanie (Jim) Zamrzla, Ellsworth, Kansas, Ryan (Rebecca) Kohrs San Antonio , Texas, and Justin (Julie) Kretzer Apache, Oklahoma, 8 Great Grandchildren, 3 Great-Great Grandchildren, a brother, James Morgan (Nancy), Madison, AL; sister and brother-in-law Theresa and Gary Wisbey, Salina, KS; many nieces and nephews, as well as several cousins who meant a great deal to him, and several inlaws.

OKLAHOMA CITY, OK -&nbsp;Barbara P. Lipen, 84, formerly of Salina, died Aug. 17, 2020 in Oklahoma City, OK. She was born June 29, 1936 in Larned, KS. the daughter of Dale and Lula "Elaine" (Yates) Armstrong.

Barbara is preceded in death by her first husband, Jack Lamer and her second husband, Paul "Bud" Lipe; a step son, Rodger Lipe; two brothers, Jerry Armstrong and Jim Armstrong and a sister, Linda Irwin.

She is survived by her son, David (Kathy) Lamer, Edmond, OK and a stepson, Dewayne (Sylvia) Lipe, Salina; two daughters, Cynthia (Herb) Miller, Edmond, Ok and Shana (Bret) Stitt, Topeka, and step daughter, Teresa Villerdale, Salina. She has a brother, Dick (Jenny) Armstrong and two sisters, Judy (Bob) Hudson and Debbie (Bill) Cox, a sister in law, Glenda Armstrong, 12 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday August 21, 2020 at Ryan Mortuary, Salina. Burial will be in Gypsum Hill Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 until 8 p.m. on Thursdsay at Ryan Mortuary, where the family will receive friends from 7 until 8 p.m. that evening.

Elmer O’Riely Youngs, Jr., was born on July 15, 1956 in Batavia, New York, and he passed away on August 12, 2020, at the Republic County Hospital in Belleville at the age of 64 years and 28 days.

Elmer married Tina L. Outcalt in Nelson, Nebraska, in 1989. Elmer worked as a journeyman painter, and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and working on his truck in his spare time.

Elmer is preceded in death by his parents, his wife Tina in December 2019, sister June Chesser and brother John Youngs.

He is survived by his son David Youngs of Superior, Nebraska; sons Jasson Kouma, James Outcalt, Loran Outcalt and daughter Liberty Edwards. Elmer is also survived by his brother E.J. Youngs, and his many grandchildren.

Barbara Cox

Thomas Patrick Roche, age 74, died on Saturday, August 15, 2020 at The Nicol Home in Glasco, Kansas.

Mr. Roche was born on July 22, 1946, in Massena, New York, to John "Jack" Roche and Joan Jordan Roche.&nbsp; The family moved to Concordia, Kansas when Mr. Roche was three years old.&nbsp; He attended Our Lady of Perpetual Help School and graduated from Concordia High School in 1964 and from NCK Technical College in 1970.&nbsp; He was preceded in death by his wife, Donita Hughes, for whom he lovingly cared during her long-term illness, and by his parents and step-son, Brian Johnson.&nbsp;

Mr. Roche was the proud father of three children, Stacy Novak (Topeka), Robert Roche (Concordia), and Amber Roche Finegan (Alec) (Belleville) and stepdaughter Amanda Garman and family, (Concordia).&nbsp; He is survived by six grandchildren, Kylie Novak (Taiwan), Brittany Novak (Chicago), Pennylane Roche (Concordia), Gwyneth Finegan (Belleville), and Syd and Joanee Roche (Topeka).&nbsp; His sister, Barbara Roche Gaines (Steven) of The Villages, FL and brother John Michael Roche (Catie) of Rocky Mount, NC, also survive him, along with several nieces and nephews.

At&nbsp; the age of 13, Mr. Roche began spending summers at the Bryant Thurston farm, learning all aspects of farming and machine repair, with Bryant teaching him&nbsp; many of the skills which guided his career.&nbsp; "Bones" as Tom was known for his tall, slim stature, continued a close, lifelong friendship with Thurston.&nbsp; In 1965, Mr. Roche enlisted in the U.S. Navy where he served for four years, earning the rank of Petty Officer First Class, and where he became a hard hat diver.&nbsp; His duty station was Key West, Florida.&nbsp; After his discharge, he returned to Concordia, Kansas for a short time where he met and married Theresa Grennan. He and the family spent a time in Colorado where Mr. Roche worked on the Eisenhower Tunnel, another of his proud accomplishments.

&nbsp;In 1973, he returned to Key West where he worked in the construction trade with his father and brother and engaged his love of the water.&nbsp; Many homes in Key West bear his handiwork.&nbsp; One of his favorite memories of Key West is the construction of his 22-foot sailboat, Poco Poco, which took him five years to complete.

Mr. Roche brought his family back to rural Kansas in 1984, where he settled in Jamestown.&nbsp; He operated a bar, did woodworking, truck driving, and even served as the mayor of Jamestown. He was especially proud of the wooden stools, chairs and decorations he designed and made for the Rock Quarry.&nbsp; In 1992, he joined the firm of HABCO, where he worked as a construction superintendent for 28 years.&nbsp; His handiwork can be found in many ethanol plants, factories, and granaries throughout the Midwest.&nbsp;

Mr. Roche loved cooking, and was known to have invited practically the whole town of Jamestown to his backyard for shrimp and fish cookouts on many a summer night.&nbsp; His generosity to family and friends was well known, as some have remarked, "Tom would give you the shirt off his back and then give you another $50 to buy a better one." His children and friends remember him for his great sense of humor and his love of woodworking.&nbsp; With the aid of his daughter, Amber, he designed and created &nbsp;wooden car models given as prizes at the Jamestown car show.&nbsp; In addition to being an &nbsp;inveterate boater and fisherman, Mr. Roche loved to hunt and trap, a passion that he shared with his children.

Thomas Patrick Roche, age 74, died on Saturday, August 15, 2020 at The Nicol Home in Glasco, Kansas.Mr. Roche was born on July 22, 1946, in Massena, New York, to John "Jack" Roche and Joan Jordan Roche.&nbsp; The family moved to Concordia, Kansas when Mr. Roche was three years old.&nbsp; He attended Our Lady of Perpetual Help School and graduated from Concordia High School in 1964 and from NCK Technical College in 1970.&nbsp; He was preceded in death by his wife, Donita Hughes, for whom he lovingly cared during her long-term illness, and by his parents and step-son, Brian Johnson.&nbsp;Mr. Roche was the proud father of three children, Stacy Novak (Topeka), Robert Roche (Concordia), and Amber Roche Finegan (Alec) (Belleville) and stepdaughter Amanda Garman and family, (Concordia).&nbsp; He is survived by six grandchildren, Kylie Novak (Taiwan), Brittany Novak (Chicago), Pennylane Roche (Concordia), Gwyneth Finegan (Belleville), and Syd and Joanee Roche (Topeka).&nbsp; His sister, Barbara Roche Gaines (Steven) of The Villages, FL and brother John Michael Roche (Catie) of Rocky Mount, NC, also survive him, along with several nieces and nephews.At&nbsp; the age of 13, Mr. Roche began spending summers at the Bryant Thurston farm, learning all aspects of farming and machine repair, with Bryant teaching him&nbsp; many of the skills which guided his career.&nbsp; "Bones" as Tom was known for his tall, slim stature, continued a close, lifelong friendship with Thurston.&nbsp; In 1965, Mr. Roche enlisted in the U.S. Navy where he served for four years, earning the rank of Petty Officer First Class, and where he became a hard hat diver.&nbsp; His duty station was Key West, Florida.&nbsp; After his discharge, he returned to Concordia, Kansas for a short time where he met and married Theresa Grennan. He and the family spent a time in Colorado where Mr. Roche worked on the Eisenhower Tunnel, another of his proud accomplishments.&nbsp;In 1973, he returned to Key West where he worked in the construction trade with his father and brother and engaged his love of the water.&nbsp; Many homes in Key West bear his handiwork.&nbsp; One of his favorite memories of Key West is the construction of his 22-foot sailboat, Poco Poco, which took him five years to complete.Mr. Roche brought his family back to rural Kansas in 1984, where he settled in Jamestown.&nbsp; He operated a bar, did woodworking, truck driving, and even served as the mayor of Jamestown. He was especially proud of the wooden stools, chairs and decorations he designed and made for the Rock Quarry.&nbsp; In 1992, he joined the firm of HABCO, where he worked as a construction superintendent for 28 years.&nbsp; His handiwork can be found in many ethanol plants, factories, and granaries throughout the Midwest.&nbsp;Mr. Roche loved cooking, and was known to have invited practically the whole town of Jamestown to his backyard for shrimp and fish cookouts on many a summer night.&nbsp; His generosity to family and friends was well known, as some have remarked, "Tom would give you the shirt off his back and then give you another $50 to buy a better one." His children and friends remember him for his great sense of humor and his love of woodworking.&nbsp; With the aid of his daughter, Amber, he designed and created &nbsp;wooden car models given as prizes at the Jamestown car show.&nbsp; In addition to being an &nbsp;inveterate boater and fisherman, Mr. Roche loved to hunt and trap, a passion that he shared with his children.Memorial contributions may be given to the O'Connor Animal Shelter, 104 Industrial Ave., Concordia, KS 66901 in c/o of Chaput-Buoy Funeral Home.Cremation has taken place and a Private family graveside will be held at a later time.

Thomas Patrick Roche

&nbsp; Jennifer Hutcherson Donmyer, 50 of Abilene passed away at her home Thursday, August 13, 2020. She was born June 17, 1970 in Herington, Kansas, the daughter of Ray and Imogene (Head) Hutcherson. 

She grew up in Abilene and attended Abilene High School, graduating in 1988. 

On May 31, 2003 she was united in marriage to David Donmyer at God’s Garden south of Solomon. 

She was a Para Professional at Chapman High School from 2017 to present and also for 14 years at Abilene High School from 2000-2012. 

Jennifer is survived by her loving husband David of the home. One daughter Cheyanne Hutcherson of Chapman. One grandson, Easton Tyler along with a grandson on the way. Her mother, Imogene Hutcherson of Abilene. Brothers, Paul and wife Penny Wyss and Tim and wife Trish Wyss. Sisters, Joyce and husband Carl Hines and Jan and husband Gary Hines, along with many nieces and nephews. 

She was preceded in death by her father Ray, and one brother, Larry Wyss.

Graveside Services for Jennifer will be 10:30 A.M., Thursday, August 20, 2020 at Prairie Mound Cemetery in Solomon with Pastor Jason Kohler officiating. Family will receive friends Wednesday from 6-8P.M., at Martin-Becker-Carlson Funeral Home in Abilene. The family suggests memorials be given to the Easton Tyler Boltz Educational Fund. Jennifer Hutcherson Donmyer

Alma (Maxey) Spracklinsadly passed away Saturday, August 8,2020 at Salina Regional Health Center at the age of 75, with her loving husband by her side holding her hand.

Alma was born February 1, 1945 in England, to her parents Harold and Mary Maxey. In 1948 the family moved to the United States where she spent most her youth in California, later settling in Salina, where she graduated from Salina High School. On March 27, 1967, she married the love of her life, Richard, later giving birth to their son Tom.

Alma was a very loving and caring person, wife, mother, and grandmother. She worked various jobs, Paris Corporation, ten years at Carrols Hallmark and six years at Casey’s general store, but most impressive was the several years she spent working side by side with her husband installing carpet!

She was preceded in death by her parents, Harold, and Mary; a sister, Betty Jordan, and brother George Rutter. Alma is survived by her husband Richard of the home, son Tom Spracklin, Salina, and three grandchildren, Emily Spracklin, Tempe Arizona, Lucas Spracklin, Salina and Alpharetta Georgia, and Tanner Spracklin, Salina.

The family has decided to hold a small memorial at a later date.

Betty Mae Gawith, 87, Minneapolis, was born July 17, 1933 in Concordia, to Louie and Rama (Slater) Collins.&nbsp; Betty passed away peacefully surrounded by family on August 16, 2020.&nbsp;

Betty graduated in 1951 from Aurora High School.&nbsp; On August 4, 1951, in Aurora KS, Betty married the love of her life, LeRoy Maynard Gawith. Betty and LeRoy enjoyed dancing, jitterbugging, playing cards and watching their great grandchildren play sports. Betty and LeRoy made a life together in Delphos, Hill City, and Red Cloud, NE before&nbsp;making their permanent&nbsp;residence of 33 years in Minneapolis.&nbsp; Betty lived her life caring for others, until she retired at the age of 80, from The Good Samaritan Nursing Home.

Betty was preceded&nbsp;in death by her parents, Rama and Louie Collins; her sister, Lucille Hazlett; and her brother, Elmer Collins.

Betty is survived by her husband, LeRoy Gawith of the home; her son, Jim (Kay) Gawith of Minneapolis; daughter, Joni (Curtis) Crosson of Hutchinson; granddaughters, Lezlie (Damon) McKinney of Minneapolis, Aimee (T.J.) Trout of Minneapolis, Aricca (Matthew) Wallace of Manhattan, Monicca (Robert) King of Manhattan, Tara (Beauyett) Young of Manhattan; grandson, Jayme (Dari) Gawith of Andover; six great-grandsons; six great-granddaughters; and one great-great grandson; and many nieces and nephews.

Friends may sign the register book from 3:00-5:00 Wednesday at the funeral home. Due to Covid-19, a private Mass of Christian Burial will be at 2:00 P.M., Thursday, August 20 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Minneapolis.&nbsp; Everyone is welcome to attend the graveside service at 3:00 P.M. at Highland Cemetery, Minneapolis. November 28, 1925~August 14, 2020(age 94)

Lida's life began on November 28, 1925, the daughter of George W. and Nettie M. (Puckett) Thomas in Whitewater, Kansas. She graduated from Potwin High School Class of 1942 and also Butler County Junior College. She married Ralph Henry "Jack" Wallace on May 26, 1945 in Potwin, Kansas.

Later she was a bank teller at the Potwin State Bank for 30 years, moving up the ladder to Vice President. She also worked at The Bank of Whitewater for four years. She was a member of the Potwin Christian Church where she taught Sunday school, was a Sunday school superintendent and a deaconess. She enjoyed reading, embroidery, and word search.Her loving family includes her son and his wife, Thomas and Linda Wallace of Potwin; daughters and their husbands, Marilyn and Mike Slaymaker of Whitewater, Joyce and Tom Day of Lawrence; sisters, Bonnie Sommers of Augusta, Doris Hazen of Arkansas City, and Betty Whiteside of Potwin; 6 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren.She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Jack in 1998; brothers, Floyd, Robert, and John Thomas; sisters, Hazel Bonar and Helen Meyer; and a grandson, Steven Slaymaker. Lida passed away peacefully into her loving Savior's arms on Friday, August 14, 2020, at the age of 94.Her friends are welcome to view Lida on Monday, August 17, from 4-8 p.m. at Lamb Funeral Home (masks are required).
