&nbsp; Elizabeth “Liz” Marie Watts, 85, of McPherson, KS, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 5, 2020, at Pleasant View Home, Inman. She had worked as a Licensed Practical Nurse at Mercy Hospital and The Cedars, and later a greeter at Walmart. Liz was born on July 8, 1934, in Hillsboro, KS, the daughter of Arthur H. and Esther (Knak) Penner. She graduated from the Wichita Public School of Practical Nursing in 1953. On October 25, 1953, Liz was united in marriage to Homer M. Watts. He preceded her in death on June 1, 1992. She was a member of St. Anne’s Episcopal Church, McPherson and was baptized in the First Mennonite Church, Hillsboro. Survivors include: three children, Bill Watts (Sarah) of Hutchinson, KS, Carie Eslinger (Thomas) of Roxbury, KS, and Deanne Nelson (Warren) of Hillsboro, KS; three “adopted” children, Shelia Brown, Stephanie Jett, and Tommy Long; 14 grandchildren, Chelsea Busch (Zach), Lauren Hill (Taryn), Aaron Nelson (Martha), Stephanie Barban (Dave), Holly Nelson, Thomas Watts (Kristen), Tyler Watts (Megan), Theresa Grant (Corey), Kenneth Eslinger (Holly), Mindy Krause, Khira Longacre, Carrie Kerr, Kailea Longacre, and Kaitlynn Longacre; and 24 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by an infant brother, Raymond; his parents; and son, Christopher.

Melanie C. Ryding, 82, of Lindsborg, passed away July 3, 2020 at Bethany Home in Lindsborg.  She was born February 5, 1938 in Salina, KS to Amos and Almeda (Peterson) Ryding.  She grew up on the family farm near Falun.  She fondly remembered a heart fashioned out of a silver dollar, for a necklace, made for her, by a German prisoner of war.  She enjoyed telling the story to family members.

Melanie was a graduated of Lindsborg High School, Brown Mackie, Wichita State University, and Tulsa University.  She was a speech therapist and worked at a number of venues across the state of Kansas.

She was a member of the Salemsborg Lutheran Church WELCA, Sandzen Art Gallery, Raymer Society, and the Lindsborg Hospital Auxiliary.  Salemsborg Lutheran Church was the center of her social and spiritual life.

Melanie was preceded in death by her parents.

Survivors include her brother: Dr. Paul Ryding (Shari), of Wichita, KS; sister: Darlene Magnuson (John), of Lindsborg; one nephew, 4 nieces, 3 great nephews, and 7 great nieces.  She adored her nieces and nephews, and their children.

Visitation will be at Crick-Christians Funeral Home from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 pm, Monday, July 6.

A private family graveside service will be held at Salemsborg Lutheran Cemetery.

He enjoyed reading, teaching Sunday school class, and was devoted to his family. Deloris Marie (Holthus) Chizek was born at rural Elk Creek, Nebraska on March 13, 1936 to John and Frieda (Lampe) Holthus. She received her education at Long Branch schools. Dee passed away Saturday, June 27, 2020 at her home in Cuba, Kansas due to pancreatic cancer.

She and Joe met in 1956 when she worked at a café and he was with a road construction crew. They were married on December 30, 1958 and lived at Fort Campbell, Kentucky for two years while Joe served in the 101st Airborne, United States Army.

In 1961 they moved their mobile home to Cuba, Kansas. In 1963 they alone built their present home. Dee drove half the nails,&nbsp; blocks to &nbsp;shingles. She enjoyed her flowers, gardening, helping on the farm and baby sat with many neighboring children while raising her own four children. She was an excellent mother and teacher to all.

Dee was a member of the Elk Creek Riders Saddle Club, Republic County Czech Club and Cuba Booster Club. She loved her entire family, listening and dancing to Polka music, her “0” turn lawn mower and riding the golf cart around town. Dee was proud of her German heritage and loved her Czech man.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters Nelva and Owen Beethe, Ellen and Glen Beethe; brothers Alvin and Leroy Holthus; brother-in-law John Cawley.

Dee will be forever remembered by her husband Joe; sisters Eileen Rich and Janice Cawley; sister-in-law Angela Holthus; three daughters: Tammy Wickstrum (Mike), Cuba, KS, Kathleen Steinle (Brad), Talmo, KS, and Lisa Pierce (Clint), Augusta, KS; son David Chizek (Stacey), Manhattan, KS; five grandchildren: Kelly Steinle (Joseph Bergkamp), Wichita, KS, Kate Fisher (Tate), KCMO, Brian Steinle (Becca), Augusta, KS, Megan Spilker (Trent), Harbine, NE, and Patrick Chizek, Manhattan, KS; five great grandchildren: Dade Fisher, Harlie Steinle, Avery, Dani and Riley Spilker; numerous nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends.

A Celebration of her life will be 10:00am Saturday, July 11th, 2020 at the Cuba Community Hall, Cuba, Kansas. The day of the annual “turtle feed” which Dee cooked the turtles for over 30 years. Her urn made of hedge, yellow in color, Dee’s favorite color, by son David will be buried in National Bohemian Cemetery No. 13, rural Cuba with Stacey Chizek officiating. Following the committal service, lunch will be in the Cuba City Park.

Gene was a longtime resident of Osawatomie, KS. He married Mary “Ellen” Adams in Hume, MO on July 22, 1951. Gene retired as a conductor from the Union Pacific Railroad after a long and very enjoyable career. He was US Navy veteran and member of the Baptist Church, American Legion, Elks Lodge, and Masonic Lodge.

Gene is survived by his wife, Ellen of Ellsworth; sons, Steve Brownback (Patti) of Overland Park, KS and David Brownback (Cheryl) of Ellsworth; grandchildren, Sarah Wortman (Neil), Jeff Brownback (Susie), Thomas Brownback (Kate), and Doug Brownback (Michelle); great grandchildren, Lucas and Nathan Wortman, J.P. and Luke, Olivia and Everly and Owen Brownback; and sister, Kathy Kinder of Kansas City, MO. H.E. “Gene” Brownback

Sarah’s life began on September 28, 1946 in Wichita.  She was the daughter of Harold and Florence (Graham) Fortney. 

 Sarah was a 1965 graduate of Mt. Carmel High School and a graduate of Wichita Business College. 

 She was united in marriage to Monty Stuchlik on September 2, 1967 at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Wichita.  

Sarah worked for Pilsen State Bank in Lincolnville, a bookkeeper and even a nanny in Wichita but her only true vocation was as a loving wife and caring mother.  She did not work outside of the home until the children were grown. 

 Sarah volunteered at her children’s schools and volunteered at church because family was everything to her. 

 She was a parishioner of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Herington and a member of the Altar Society. 

 Sarah was very musical, she played piano, organ and accordion.  She loved music and musical theatre. 

 Sarah was a horse racing enthusiast and Kansas City Royals fan.  She enjoyed reading, sewing and putting together puzzles. 

 Sarah’s greatest joy was her children and grandchildren and she cherished every minute of that time. 

 Her loving family includes her husband Monty Stuchlik of Lost Springs; children Candace (Michael) Thode of Valley Center, Daniel (Melissa) Stuchlik of Pilsen, and Ross (Megan) Stuchlik of Lost Springs; grandchildren Tanner, Allie, Colt and Dakota Stuchlik and brother Kenneth Fortney of Wichita. 

 Sarah passed away on Monday June 29, 2020 at Newton Medical Center. 

 She is preceded in death by her parents, grandchildren Cheyenne, Cole and Hunter Stuchlik, three brothers and two sisters.

 </figure>Sarah’s life began on September 28, 1946 in Wichita. She was the daughter of Harold and Florence (Graham) Fortney. Sarah was a 1965 graduate of Mt. Carmel High School and a graduate of Wichita Business College. She was united in marriage to Monty Stuchlik on September 2, 1967 at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Wichita. Sarah worked for Pilsen State Bank in Lincolnville, a bookkeeper and even a nanny in Wichita but her only true vocation was as a loving wife and caring mother. She did not work outside of the home until the children were grown. Sarah volunteered at her children’s schools and volunteered at church because family was everything to her. She was a parishioner of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Herington and a member of the Altar Society. Sarah was very musical, she played piano, organ and accordion. She loved music and musical theatre. Sarah was a horse racing enthusiast and Kansas City Royals fan. She enjoyed reading, sewing and putting together puzzles. Sarah’s greatest joy was her children and grandchildren and she cherished every minute of that time. Her loving family includes her husband Monty Stuchlik of Lost Springs; children Candace (Michael) Thode of Valley Center, Daniel (Melissa) Stuchlik of Pilsen, and Ross (Megan) Stuchlik of Lost Springs; grandchildren Tanner, Allie, Colt and Dakota Stuchlik and brother Kenneth Fortney of Wichita. Sarah passed away on Monday June 29, 2020 at Newton Medical Center. She is preceded in death by her parents, grandchildren Cheyenne, Cole and Hunter Stuchlik, three brothers and two sisters. &nbsp; Merlin E. Middleton, 89, of Salina, Kansas, passed away Thursday, July 2nd, 2020. Dr. Victor Carl Hurtig, Jr. DVM, 80, resident of Courtland, KS, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his wife and four children on Tuesday, June 30th, 2020.&nbsp; He was born February 14th, 1940, in Concordia, KS, to Dr. Victor Carl Hurtig, Sr. and Eula Mae Celeste (Anderson) Hurtig.

As a young child, Victor loved to play on the floor at the back door, and listen to his father talk to Veterinary clients who came to the house... thus the start of his path of becoming a Veterinarian just like his own father. He grew up riding down country roads with his father on innumerable veterinary calls, wearing holes in the passenger seat with his feet standing to see all that was going on. &nbsp;

Victor was an All-Star High School athlete of Courtland High School, playing 6 man football, basketball, and track. Victor held the state record for the longest javelin throw at 198 ft., He graduated from Courtland High School in 1958. &nbsp;

Victor enrolled at Kansas State University in 1958 to fulfill his lifelong dream of being a Veterinarian. He was a college track athlete. After a bout of both Rheumatic fever and Mononucleosis causing a slight pause in his trajectory, he graduated from the College of Veterinary Medicine in 1966 along with the “fearless foursome”, and many dear Veterinary friends he still held close to this day.

Victor found the love of his life when a cute cheerleader from Kackley arrived at his door with her injured dog. He then proceeded to make house calls to check on the animal daily. Once he found the number to call, 2866, Carlene accepted the date, and off they went to the drive in theater. This began a life of love together filled with adventures and fun times. Victor and Carlene spent a lot of time waterskiing on Lovewell Lake, and even some irrigation canals. Carlene was studying at Fort Hays State University, but was quickly convinced to attend Kansas State University by Victor.There they spent many nights dancing and enjoying hot fudge sundaes. Victor started his racing career early on the streets of Manhattan to get Carlene back by curfew to the Kappa Delta sorority house. Once his studies were completed, Victor graduated on June 5th,and then married the love of his life, Carlene on the following Sunday, June 12th, 1966.&nbsp; To this union five children were born.&nbsp; Sarah Elizabeth Hurtig (deceased), Natalie Ann Hurtig, Edward Carl Hurtig, Melissa Mae Boisseau, and Victor Carl Hurtig, III “Trey”.

Victor invested and devoted his life into his career, community and family.&nbsp; The Hurtig family made their lifelong home in Courtland area. Together, “Doc” and “Vic, Jr” practiced veterinary medicine together, establishing The Hurtig Veterinary Clinic as a staple of the community from 1926-2014. Victor serviced both large and small animals in the area. He also helped train numerous interns, welcoming and hosting them into their home and mentored them as future vets.&nbsp; Practicing Veterinary medicine for 48 years, Victor was a Member of the Kansas Veterinary Medical Association, served on the Board of Examiners, and was a lifetime member of the American Veterinary Medical Association.

Victor will be remembered as a visionary and pillar of the community. His tremendous investments of his time and his resources began in the 70s when he and other community leaders went in and donated the land for, and subsequently created, the Courtland Swimming Pool, Mini Park, Tennis Courts, and Basketball courts. Victor also helped to reconstruct the Courtland Baseball Field and Crow’s Nest. Victor‘s initiatives were pivotal in helping to renovate the Courtland Community Center, the City Hall, and the Library. Victor also was instrumental in establishing the Sunflower Manor Senior Citizen Center. Serving as President of the Pride Club and on the Courtland Arts Council for many years, Victor took pride in serving leadership positions in the community. Victor’s leadership extended to the Ada Lutheran Church Council, on the School Board as President and member for many years, and was a 49 year member of the Elks.

Victor’s spare time included numerous hobbies mostly centered around his family. He and his wife became certified licensed pilots in 1971/1972. As members of the Belleville Flying Club, Victor and Carlene routinely took all 5 kids in their airplane for many midwest adventures.&nbsp; Victor’s need for speed then translated to the racetrack in the late 80s where he decoratively raced IMCA Modified, Mini Stock and Cruisers on dirt tracks across Kansas and Nebraska.

A passion for both water and snow skiing was a skill Victor personally enjoyed and in turn instilled in his 5 children and all 9 grandchildren. He loved boating at Lovewell Lake. On the slopes, his family fondly recalls Victor leisurely skiing backwards down many a ski slope with a video camera in hand and his signature cowboy hat.&nbsp; Every Christmas for well over the last decade, Victor gathered his entire family on the ski slopes for family fun and memories. Other hobbies he shared with his family included raising cattle, golf, carpentry, gardening, and landscaping. His family cherished his artistic side as well enjoying his photography, cartooning and wood carving.

A devoted Kansas State fan, Victor started a tailgating tradition with his family in the early 80s in the gravel parking lot outside of the football stadium with his kids that spans 3 generations, and continues on today with his grandchildren.&nbsp; He was Founder &amp; President of the Beaver Creek Social Club, and with his bride are Lifetime members of the Kansas State Alumni Association. &nbsp;

One of Victor’s most epic, endearing, and unique qualities was that of his storytelling. He was a man of humor, and will be remembered for incredible stories ranging from pulling calves to UFOs, flying his plane amidst unpredictable Kansas weather and many wild Vegas adventures.&nbsp;

In his retirement, Victor enjoyed KSU football, Las Vegas, taxidermy, gardening, caring for his backyard oasis that he created to entertain family &amp; friends and traveling to see grandchilden’s activities that he was so very proud of. &nbsp;

He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters: Carol Hurtig Copening and Virginia Hurtig Henson, and daughter, Sarah Elizabeth Hurtig.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years Carlene Elizabeth Hurtig; daughter, Natalie Ann Hurtig and Steve Dearholt of Steamboat Springs, CO; son, Edward Carl Hurtig and Megan Hurtig of Linwood, KS; daughter, Melissa Mae Boisseau and Justin Boisseau of Rye, NY; son, Victor Carl Hurtig, III “Trey” and Jane Hurtig of Olathe, KS; Grandchildren: Hayden Hurtig, Hudson Hurtig, Dalton Boisseau, Eva Hurtig, Rocklan Boisseau, Alana Boisseau, Hunter Hurtig, Violet Hurtig and Adler Boisseau.

The family is grieving privately and are holding an intimate, private funeral service on the family farm, with a burial immediately following at Ada Lutheran Cemetary. Gladys F. Shorney, daughter of Joseph Svoboda and Tracy (Havel) Svoboda was born February 10, 1929 at Cuba, Kansas and passed away on June 30, 2020 at Tecumseh, Oklahoma at the age of 91 years, 4 months and 20 days.

Gladys graduated from Agenda High School.&nbsp;&nbsp; She was united in marriage to John E. Shorney on June 1, 1950 and to this union two sons were born, Guy and Jay.&nbsp;&nbsp; John and Gladys farmed in rural Narka, KS. for many years and retired and moved to Belleville, KS in 1994.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Tracy Svoboda, husband, John E. Shorney and three brothers, Melvin Svoboda, Lavern Svoboda and Earl Svoboda.

She is survived by two sons, Guy Shorney and his wife Sharon of Tecumseh, Oklahoma, Jay Shorney and his wife Lynne of Denton, Texas, 6 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, other relatives and many friends.&nbsp; Gladys is best known for her love of family and gardening.&nbsp; She was an excellent cook, specializing in Czech food such as potato dumplings and kolaches, as well as roast duck, noodles, and ginger snaps

Gladys F (Svoboda) Shorney

Mary Jane LeFevre, age 70, of Mankato, KS entered into rest on Thursday, July 2, 2020.&nbsp;&nbsp;She was born on August 24, 1949 in Portland, OR to Nerod and Doreen Hall.

Mary Jane worked as a nurse’s aide. She had also worked as a bus driver which she enjoyed greatly.

&nbsp;Mary Jane enjoyed talking to everyone and making people smile and laugh.

She is survived by her daughters Amy Hamburger and Jennifer Cunningham; and partner Paul Faye.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Private family Service for Mary Jane will be held at Shaffer Cemetery.

&nbsp; James Curtis "J.C." Herr, 87, of McPherson, Kansas, passed away Wednesday, July 1st, 2020 while in the company of family members at McPherson Health And Rehab. James was born in Fayetteville, Arkansas on March 5, 1933, the son of Owen Curtis and Mary A. (Mondero) Herr. James Curtis Herr was united in marriage to Linda Kay Baker on June 11, 1976 in Newkirk, Oklahoma. The young couple established their first home together in Arkansas City, Kansas. This union was blessed with the birth of a son Jeremy. Louise Ida Sutton was born on October 27, 1935 on the family farm near Aurora, Kansas, the daughter of George and Mabel Budreau Bisnett. She died Tuesday, June 30, 2020 at Hilltop Lodge in Beloit, Kansas at the age of 84.

She grew up and attended country schools around Concordia before graduating from Concordia High School. She later attended the St. Joseph Hospital School of Nursing in Salina, where she earned her nursing degree. She spent her entire career as a registered nurse at the Beloit Medical Center.

She married James Sutton at St. John’s Catholic Church in Beloit, and they were privileged to be married until his death in October, 2012.

In her spare time, she enjoyed crocheting and knitting, as well as doing many ceramic projects. She was also a very dedicated member of TOPS, and was also a member of the Beloit First Christian Church.

In addition to her husband Jim, she was also preceded in death by her parents, and her brothers, Raymond and Virgil Bisnett.

Louise is survived by her sister, Pauline Allison of Beloit; brother, Delmer Bisnett of Hoyt, Kansas; brother-in-law, Jerry Sutton of St. Louis; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Family-only funeral services will be at 10 AM Friday, July 3 at the Roberts Family Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 1-7 PM Thursday, July 2 at the funeral home. Memorials may be given to the Beloit First Christian Church or Mitchell County Hospital Endowment Fund.

Helen Rose Gronewoller Franks Driggs was born on January 1, 1919 in Butler, Missouri, the daughter of Frank and Rose Raising Gronewoller. She died Monday, June 29, 2020 at the Hilltop Lodge in Beloit, Kansas at the age of 101 years.&nbsp; Helen was the last living of the twelve Gronewoller children.&nbsp;

Helen married Wesley Franks in 1939 and they lived in Glasco, Kansas, and raised their three children there. Helen worked in the school cafeteria in Glasco while her children were in school. After Wesley died in 1973, she took training to become a certified medical assistant and worked at the Nicol Rest Home in Glasco. In 1985, she married Bob Teasley of Glasco, and moved with him to Sun City West, Arizona, where she worked part time at the Del Web Hospital. She returned to Beloit in 1991. In 1995, she married Don Driggs of Downs, and lived there until they moved to the Porter House in Beloit in 2006. Since Spring of 2010, Helen has lived at Hilltop Lodge. Helen enjoyed bridge, golf, sewing, crocheting, and loved to go dancing. She loved her family and friends, and her good nature and sense of humor made her a joy to be with.

Helen was preceded in death by husband Wesley Franks; sons Daniel Franks of California, Missouri, Darrell Franks of Louisville, Kentucky; daughter Sharon Kay Franks of Manhattan, Kansas; and husband Donald Driggs of Downs. She is survived by five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; and step children, Douglas Driggs, Bill Driggs, and Judy Fawcett.

Graveside services will be at 1 PM Friday, July 3 at the Glasco Cemetery. There will be no visitation. Memorials may be given to the Perdue House or Mitchell County Regional Medical Foundation.

Jay Puckett died, suddenly, at his home outside Council Grove Saturday evening the June 27, 2020. He was 74 years old. Services will be Wednesday July 1, 2020 at 8pm at the shelter house of First Baptist Church. Dress is casual, bring your own chair or blanket and bug spray. Jay Dean Puckett was born June 12, 1946 in Garrison, Kansas to Jessie Dial and Gerald Puckett. His childhood was spent on his parents’ farm in the company of his sister, Mimi, and numerous cousins. A farm accident caused him to spend time in Kansas City, Mo at St Luke’s Hospital and forced him inside where he picked up a love of reading. The family spent some time in Nevada before returning to Kansas where Jay graduated from St. George High School before going on to attend Kansas State University to study mechanical engineering. He spent time in Wichita driving race cars, both on an oval track and drag racing. At this time he drove freight for Mistletoe Express. After returning to Manhattan he worked for Byers construction. As a young man Jay helped build his parents’ house at Tuttle creek Reservoir with his father and uncle Don. He spent time in the Yukon Territory of Canada where his sister Mimi settled. He helped her and her family build a house and clear land there.

In 1979 Jay married Elaine Campbell and moved to Waverly, Kansas. He continued to work construction, building road bridges and commercial projects. In 1982 the growing family moved to their current address outside Council Grove. Jay partnered with Bill Downes creating BJ Construction. Jay soon began work on a house for his family. Building after work mostly on his own he finished the current family home in 1997. BJ Construction handled residential building and remodeling in and around Council Grove until Bill moved to Colorado in 1990. After this Jay continued to work freelance until he retired in 2008. Jay supported his children in their 4-H pursuits by serving on the fair board. Around 2000 he, Elaine and Quinten began attending First Baptist Church of Council Grove. Jay went on to serve as a trustee and more recently as a deacon.

Jay enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, and fishing. His dad took Jay fishing on the Blue River at a very young age and the sport was a lifelong passion that he enjoyed as often as he could, especially after retirement. He joined his cousin Larry Abell for elk hunting trips in the bitterroot wilderness in Idaho for over 20 years. Jay also hunted whitetail deer closer to home. He enjoyed bird hunting and kept and trained German Shorthair Pointers for a time. Jay’s other big love was reading. This began as a boy when he read the entire encyclopedia while convalescing and grew into a love that was passed to his daughters. Jay enjoyed reading about history, particularly WWII, and adventures true and fiction.

Jay is survived by his sister Mimi Elliot of Dawson City, Yukon, Canada; his wife Elaine Puckett of Council Grove; Daughters Amber Kovac (Nathan) of Prairie Village and Tara Thomsen (Dave) of Ft Hood, Texas; Son Quinten Puckett of Holton; and five granddaughters: Danica, Harlow, and Thea Thomsen and Cora and Wendy Kovac.

Jay supported his children in their 4-H pursuits by serving on the fair board. Around 2000 he, Elaine and Quinten began attending First Baptist Church of Council Grove. Jay went on to serve as a trustee and more recently as a deacon.Jay enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, and fishing. His dad took Jay fishing on the Blue River at a very young age and the sport was a lifelong passion that he enjoyed as often as he could, especially after retirement. He joined his cousin Larry Abell for elk hunting trips in the bitterroot wilderness in Idaho for over 20 years. Jay also hunted whitetail deer closer to home. He enjoyed bird hunting and kept and trained German Shorthair Pointers for a time. Jay’s other big love was reading. This began as a boy when he read the entire encyclopedia while convalescing and grew into a love that was passed to his daughters. Jay enjoyed reading about history, particularly WWII, and adventures true and fiction.Jay is survived by his sister Mimi Elliot of Dawson City, Yukon, Canada; his wife Elaine Puckett of Council Grove; Daughters Amber Kovac (Nathan) of Prairie Village and Tara Thomsen (Dave) of Ft Hood, Texas; Son Quinten Puckett of Holton; and five granddaughters: Danica, Harlow, and Thea Thomsen and Cora and Wendy Kovac.

&nbsp; Karen L. Elsasser, age 80, of Abilene, passed away Thursday, June 25, 2020 at the Memorial Hospital in Abilene. She was born August 18, 1939 in Clay Center, the daughter of Walter and Marie (Carpenter) Harrison. She attended Myersdale Grade School and graduated from Wakefield High School with the class of 1957. On July 8, 1958 Karen was united in marriage to Harvey D. Elsasser. Karen was a medical secretary at Ft. Riley for many years and was a medical receptionist for Dr. Hamel in Chapman for many years. She enjoyed painting, humming birds, quilting, and her flower garden. Karen is survived by her two loving children Dan Elsasser and his wife Melody of Abilene, Sandy Clemence and her husband Mike of rural Abilene, brother Walt Harrison, Jr of Sahuarita, Arizona, three grandchildren Michela Brown (David) of Abilene, Samantha Horn (Tim) of Abilene, Amanda Kohman (Matt) of Abilene, and five great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her loving husband Harvey on January 31, 2018, granddaughter Mykel Nicole Clemence and her parents. Her final resting place will be in the Highland Cemetery at Wakefield, Kansas. He was born on August 6, 1959 to the late Howard and Marlene (Panzer) Brown in Great Bend, Kansas. He grew up in Lincoln, Kansas and graduated from Lincoln High School in 1977. After high school he attended North Central Kansas Area vocational school where he received an associates degree in business administration. He spent most of his career in management and auto sales. He was preceded in death by his parents and his grandparents. He is survived by two sons, Drake, and Austin Brown of Atlanta, Georgia, sister, Brenda Hill (Rod) of Casper, Wyoming, brother, Dennis Brown (Tammy) of Salina, and many nieces and nephews. He enjoyed riding his Harley and playing golf. He also enjoyed spending time with his sons, family, and all of his nieces and nephews. Cremation has been chosen and family will receive friends on July 10, 2020 at 5:00 to 6:30 at Higher Praise Church. Diana Gale (Greenlee) Stutzman passed June 26, 2020. She was born April 25, 1957 in Denver, Colorado to Edger and Emma Greenlee. Growing up in Scott City, Kansas, Diane was the youngest of four children. She showed a passion for animals early on, and when not helping her mother in their floral shop, could often be found feeding the neighborhood stray cats and claiming them as her own. Participating in athletics and cheerleading, Diane graduated from Scott City High School in 1975. Immediately after, she began work as a legal aid for the local District Attorney’s office. Diane married in 1976 and began her family, giving birth to first a daughter, Jessica in 1977, and later a son, Daniel in 1981. Settling in Salina, Kansas, she spent several years putting her office skills to use working for ADM, owned by Smoot Grain Co., before choosing what became an extensive career in Retail Management. Wanting to be closer to the mountains and her mother, Diane moved to Colorado Springs, Colorado in 2006, where she remained until her death. It was there that she met the love of her life, Dennis, remarrying in a picturesque ceremony on May 5, 2012. Together they enjoyed motorcycle rides through the mountains, Sunday afternoon football, and time spent with family. Diane could often be heard bragging on her six grandchildren, for whom she cherished and adored. Always selfless, Diane chose the wonderful gift of organ donation and her family happily obliged. Diane was preceded in death by her father, Edger Greenlee (Scott City, Kansas); and mother, Emma Neeland (Colorado Springs, Colorado). Harriet (June) Louise Levendofsky, the daughter of Glen E. June and Cecelia (Andersen) June, was born November 24th, 1933, in Belleville, Kansas, and passed away on Friday, June 26, 2020, at Cloud County Health Center at the age of 86 years, 7 months, and 2 days.

Harriet graduated from Haddam High School in 1951.&nbsp; On April 23, 1955, she was united in marriage to Paul M. Levendofsky and to this union were born Randy and Paulette.&nbsp; The couple made their home on a farm north of Belleville, Kansas.

After graduation, Harriet worked as a Telephone Operator in Haddam, Kansas, then as a clerk at JC Penney in Concordia, Kansas.&nbsp; Upon marriage, she worked at the Belleville High School cafeteria, and then turned her focus on her family and became a stay-at-home mother and farm wife.&nbsp; She was active in her children’s 4-H programs, which included raising and showing livestock.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Paulette, her parents and two brothers.

She is survived by her husband, Paul Levendofsky, of rural Belleville; son Randy and wife Sherry of Timnath, Colorado, two granddaughters, Jill (Levendofsky) Barker and husband Lance of Timnath, Colorado, and Stacey (Levendofsky) Peterson and husband Dan of Overland Park, Kansas; four great grandchildren, Ben and Katie Barker, Maya and Natalie Peterson.

Jane Mary "Janie" Riggs entered into eternal rest on Saturday, June 27, at the Lindsborg Community Hospital.  She was born on October 18, 1942, at Kingman, Kansas, the only child of Robert Valentine and Mary Genevieve Goetz Bock.  Spending her early years on the family farm, her closest associates and friends were farm animals, particularly cats, of which she would have many fond memories.  Beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, she was kind and friendly to everyone she met.  After leaving the farm, Janie was raised in Kingman, KS, where she graduated from Kingman High School.  Following high school, she graduated from the Cliff Mann School of Floral Design at Denver, Colorado, and also attended St. Mary of the Plains College, Hutchinson Junior College, and Kansas State University.  

Janie was united in holy matrimony to John Riggs on November 24, 1962, at Manhattan, Kansas.  To this union were born two children, Judith and Robert.  She was a loving mother and a truly generous human being who touched many over the course of her life, leaving a lasting legacy of love and devotion.  She was a staunch patriot and a true and devoted friend to all children and cats.  Janie served on the election board in Lindsborg, Kansas, for a number of years.  She also donated her time, collecting contributions for The American Heart Society, for over a decade.  She operated a daycare service from which many of "her kids" graduated from high school with honors, a fact of which she was very proud.  Following this, she became the lead cook and baker at Smoky Valley High School before having to take medical retirement due to recurrent breast cancer.  Janie was a devout Catholic and was instrumental in the founding and establishment of St. Bridget Catholic Church in Lindsborg, Kansas.  She was also a member of the Sacred Heart Cathedral congregation in Salina, Kansas, and served for many years as an eucharistic minister.  

Janie is survived by her husband John, daughter Judy, son Robert, grandson Todd Clubine (Libby), and granddaughters Josie and Zoe Riggs.  She was preceded in death by her parents and grandparents.

Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, July 1, at Crick-Christians Funeral Home, Lindsborg.

Funeral Mass will be at 10:00 AM on Thursday, July 2, at the St. Louis Catholic Church at Waterloo, Kansas, with interment at nearby St. Louis Cemetary to follow.  A Rosary will be recited at 9:30 a.m., at the church preceding the funeral.

He graduated from McPherson High School in 1960. On June 17, 1962, Fred was united in marriage to Linda Marie Grant in McPherson. She preceded him in death on July 30, 2019. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, McPherson. McCoy; two step-grandchildren, Lisa (Merlin) Goering and Jason (Ashley) Ratzlaff; two great-grandchildren, Leo Peterson and Justin McCoy; three step-great-grandchildren, Kelsey (Eric) Larson, Amanda (Spencer) Bauman, and Lacie Goering; two step-great-great-grandchildren, DaeLynn Larson and Camden Larson. He was preceded in death by his parents and wife. A graveside service will be held at 10:00 AM, Monday, July 6, 2020, at McPherson Cemetery.
