The 2023 Smoky Hill River Festival season begins Wednesday afternoon when the first clue for the Medallion Quest is revealed.

The Medallion Quest marks the official countdown to the Smoky Hill River Festival, which is scheduled for June 8-11 in Salina's Oakdale Park.

The first Medallion Quest clue reveal by Salina Arts &amp; Humanities Arts Commissioners is scheduled for 4 p.m. Wednesday on the front steps of the Smoky Hill Museum, 211 W. Iron Avenue, according to information from Salina Arts &amp; Humanities.

After the Wednesday launch, two different Medallion Quest clues will be revealed each day - at 7:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. - until the medallion is found. The clues will be revealed on the <a href="https://www.festivalmedallionquest.com/">Medallion Quest website</a>.

The Medallion Quest is open to the public at no charge, however, participants must be 18 years of age to claim any prize. See all the Medallion Quest Rules at festivalmedallionquest.com.

The prize package for this year's Medallion Quest includes the following, according to Arts &amp; Humanities.

Medallion Quest first clue reveal Wednesday at Smoky Hill Museum

Summer reading has long been a staple of public libraries across the country. At Salina Public Library, one of our most frequent fond recollections from adult patrons is participating in summer reading as a child. Efforts to promote reading, especially during the summer, are central to the library’s calendar with our first inter-departmental planning meeting held in the fall the year before.&nbsp;

There is a reason we put staff time and resources into the summer. The “summer slide” refers to children’s risk of losing reading and math skills gained over the course of the school year during summer break. This is especially true for younger children and disproportionally affects children from low-income families.

The good news is that helping children retain what they learned over the school year doesn’t have to involve long days in a classroom or expensive learning tools. Simple things like encouraging reading and making time for educational play can make a big difference. That’s why the library sets a summer reading goal with prize incentives and offers about 100 free educational youth programs over the summer. A traditional summer reading program has evolved at the library to include STEM programs, Moby Max and book club sessions with a certified teacher and learning packets that include math and reading worksheets.

The goal is for the community to read 15,000 books over the course of nine weeks. Participation in the library’s summer reading goal is simple and no registration is required. Each week beginning May 19 through July 20, readers of all ages can submit the number of books they have read online at <a href="http://salinapubliclibrary.org/" target="_blank">salinapubliclibrary.org</a> or by completing a paper form at the library. We encourage adults to participate in the reading goal as well because children who have adults who read in their lives are more likely to be readers themselves. At the end of the week, 10 winners will be drawn from the submissions. Prizes will include gift certificates, toys and books.&nbsp;

Summer at the Library will start with a kickoff celebration from 5-7 p.m. May 19 in Caldwell Plaza. There will be games, a prize drawing, and hot dogs. 

The summer will wrap up with a pool party for youth on July 23 and a gathering for adults at Ad Astra Books &amp; Coffee on Aug. 4. 

The Friends of the Salina Public Library has provided support for summer prizes and parties.

Additionally,&nbsp;health and nutrition are impacted by the summer months with students who rely on school lunches needing to fill the gap. To help our community with this issue over the summer, the library partners with St. John’s Missionary Baptist Church to be a summer lunch site by handing out meals from 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Monday-Friday at the McKenzie Center, 308 W. Elm Street. Priority is given to youth 0-18. 

The library also is continuing its partnership with Salina Family Healthcare Center which will have personnel at the library from 1:30-3:30 p.m. June 1 and July 6. They’ll provide health screenings and education.

Summer at Salina Public Library: Books, food, fun, and health

Wendy Stein likes music, almost all kinds of music.&nbsp;

She played principal clarinet with the Salina Symphony from 1972, when she was a student at Marymount College, until 2005.

Her favorite composer is Maurice Ravel, but her favorite genre to play?

“I love saxophone because I can play jazz and the sound of the saxophone is very versatile,” Stein said.

That’s fortunate for Kansas Wesleyan because Stein has agreed to come back to teach woodwinds and direct the Wind Ensemble.&nbsp;

“My experiences performing in various wind ensembles have been some of my absolute favorite musical memories!” Stein said. “Wind ensemble is the perfect challenge, to help KWU musicians move them from where they are now to where they need to go as members of an ensemble.”

When she taught at Kansas Wesleyan previously, the spring of 2017 through the fall of 2018, she directed the jazz band.

“It was really fun,” she said. “The kids had a good time and responded well to my teaching. It was a great experience and I enjoyed the kids. Retirement didn’t suit me, and I needed something creative to do.”&nbsp;

Musical creativity runs rampant through Stein’s family. Her late husband was Eric Stein, founder of the Salina Symphony and a major force in Salina’s music scene. Eric taught for years at Marymount College, moving to Kansas Wesleyan when Marymount closed in 1989.

Her children, Adele and Derek Stein, are both professional cellists and were the guest artists at Salina Strings Day in February.&nbsp;

Derek lives on the West Coast and plays with Wild Up, a modern music collective nominated for a Grammy this year and in 2020. His most recent high-profile gig was backing up The Who at the Hollywood Bowl.&nbsp;

Adele lives in Chappaqua, New York and plays in the pit for Broadway musicals, currently “&amp; Juliet.” One recent high-profile gig was at the Met Gala on May 1.

Wendy Stein was the band director for 35 years at St. John’s Military School. She is, in fact, working on a musical based on her experiences at St. John’s.&nbsp;

Before St. John’s, Stein taught in the Solomon public schools for five years.

Stein said she’s “just really excited to join the team.” She knows the other team members already. In a town the size of Salina, all the musicians know one another, she said. She went to Marymount with Dean Kranzler, percussion instructor, and is a friend of Michelle Dolan, who is part of the department, as well.

“Gustavo (do Carmo) and Leo (Rosario) are super in their individual fields, no airs at all, and that makes it better for the kids,” she said.&nbsp;

Do Carmo is the collaborative pianist and Rosario the director of strings at Kansas Wesleyan.

While she hasn’t yet worked with Jake Montoya, newly hired director of the jazz and athletic bands, she knows him.

“Jake should be just perfect with the bands and recruiting,” Stein said. “I’ve known Jake for a long time. It’ll be great working with him.

“I feel good about the direction the Music Department is going. I’m happy to be a little piece of the puzzle.”&nbsp;

The size of Kansas Wesleyan is ideal, Stein said.

“The college itself meets the needs of all the students because it’s a small school and gives them more a sense of home. I think that’s what Wesleyan is all about, giving them a sense of home and college, being not just a number. It gives students a chance to shine and puts the kids right at the forefront.”

In some ways, this will be a tough year to teach, with the renovations going in the music classrooms and practice rooms, Sams Chapel and Pioneer Hall. Some of the performances will be back at the former Marymount College, in the Gov. Joan Finney Auditorium at the Kansas Highway Patrol Academy.

“Remodeling where we perform, that’s going to be great,” she said. “We’ll just roll with punches.”

Coming to KWU, “It feels like coming home, a little bit,” she said. “It’s nice to have a way to come back.”

Stein’s work officially begins in August.

The&nbsp;Tamara Howe School of Dance and Ballet Salina will host a joint concert to benefit the Love Chloe Foundation this weekend.

The event is scheduled for 12:30 p.m. Saturday in the Stiefel Theatre, 151 S. Santa Fe Avenue.

Three Dog Night has had to reschedule its Salina performance.

Originally scheduled for May 18, the concert is now scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Aug. 24 in the Stiefel Theatre, 151 S. Santa Fe Avenue.

According to Jane Gates, Stiefel executive director, all tickets will transfer to the Aug. 24 performance.

"If you cannot attend the rescheduled show, tickets will be refunded at the point of sale," Gates said. "We really apologize for the inconvenience - and look forward to the show in August!"

Three Dog Night reschedules Stiefel Theatre concert

Dennis and Chuck Budke were little boys when the Hollywood crew for "Paper Moon" descended on Hays.

The boys' mother attended a casting call in Hays but was told they didn't have any more female roles. They needed kids. That she had. There were 14 siblings in the Budke family.

Eight of those siblings were cast in a scene from "Paper Moon," which was filmed in Wilson, Hays and locations around Ellis County.

Dennis and Chuck recounted their memories of the filming Saturday during the "Paper Moon" Festival in Wilson, which celebrated the 50th anniversary of the film's release.

The Budke family was in a scene during which Moze, played by Ryan O'Neal, and Addie, played by his daughter Tatum O'Neal, try to sell a Bible to a poor family.&nbsp;

The widow comes to the door and her many children, the Budke siblings, file in behind her. Addie turns to Moze and tells him the Bible is paid for.&nbsp;

Dennis, who was about 10 when the movie was filmed, remembers his youngest sibling in the scene, his sister who was about 2, kept crying. The crew tried to get her to stop, but she just keep crying.

Finally, they decided to precede and include the crying child in the scene.

Dennis said he remembers eating lunch with Tatum and Ryan O'Neal. He said Tatum was much like she was in the movie, complaining to her dad about her ham sandwich.

He said his siblings played with Tatum on a nearby playground between takes.

"It was a pretty good experience," Dennis said, "It was kind of scary at first. We got to see all of these people and the lights and trucks and trailers."

Chuck, who was only 5 during the filming, said the filming of the movie was one of his earliest memories. Chuck is now a resident of Salina.

Chuck was so small that the crew gave him a couple of Sears catalogs to stand on so he could be seen in the shot.

Dennis still has the pay stub from the film. It was for a whopping $14.

Both men remember the Hays premiere of the film, which included a red carpet showing at the Fox Theatre in downtown Hays.

The boys, who came from a family of modest means, remember drinking pop and eating popcorn, a rare treat.

Dennis said a few girls even asked him for his autograph.

The McCraken Historical Museum still has a newspaper clipping from the time that includes a picture of the eight Bubke siblings who were in the movie.

"Paper Moon" depicts the Depression era in Kansas and Missouri. It was shot in black and white by director Peter Bogdanovich and tells the story of drifter, Moze, and a little girl, Addie, as Moze takes Addie from rural Kansas to St. Joseph, Mo., to live with her aunt.

Tatum O'Neal won an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her role in the film, becoming the youngest actress to do so.

Seven locations in Wilson were in the movie. All of those locations in Wilson were marked during the festival with photos of the original images from the movie. Several of the buildings are now vacant, and one, the Otasco Building, has been torn down.

In September 1974, ABC premiered a&nbsp;television&nbsp;series by the same name based on the film.&nbsp;Jodie Foster&nbsp;was cast as Addie and&nbsp;Christopher Connelly&nbsp;played Moze. Dennis Budke received a callback and was in the third episode of the series, but the series only ran 13 episodes and was canceled.

Susan Keith was only 4 when the "Paper Moon" crew shot the opening scene of the movie at her family's cemetery outside of McCracken. Her mother, Carolyn Thompson, took Keith to the Nickel family cemetery where she met Tatum O'Neal.

Although Keith was too young to remember that day, she still has a photo of her and the young actress.

The Nickel family cemetery is still being maintained today and is much the same as it was 50 years ago when the movie was shot there, said Keith, who grew up in McCracken, but now lives in Ellsworth.

A father-daughter duo came from San Diego just for the festival. Jim Croff came dressed as Moze and his daughter,&nbsp;Adrienne&nbsp; Blake, as Addie. Croff has owned a Ford Model A since he was in his twenties. This is the car that Moze is driving at the beginning of the movie.

Croff said he has always loved vintage cars, and movies, including "Paper Moon" and "The Sting" and the TV show "The Waltons" amplified his fascination with the Model A.

"Paper Moon" debuted before Adrienne, 39, was born, but she said she remembers watching the movie with her dad and riding in parades in the Model A.

The duo also toured the cemetery and the "Paper Moon" wing at of historical museum at McCracken.&nbsp;

"That's been the best part," Blake said, "hearing the stories about what it was like when the crew was here. My favorite part is that it was just people from the town who were also in the movie. I just can't imagine what it was like at the time having this whole Hollywood movie crew come into your town and want to film there."

Croff said he enjoyed meeting the local residents.

"There's just wonderful folk wherever you go," he said, wearing a pinstripe linen suit. ... "People opened their homes to us."

Defiance Brewing Co. will have a commemorative beer, which has yet to be named. Two free showings of the movie will be offered at 7 p.m. Saturday, June 17 and 2 p.m. Sunday, June 18 at Beach/Schmidt Performing Arts Center.&nbsp;

There will be special exhibits at the Hays Arts Council Annex along with the Summer Art Walk on June 16 and at the McCracken Historical Society will be open on Friday and Saturday, June 16 and 17.&nbsp;

McCracken also will have a luncheon from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, June 17 at the McCracken Community Building, and The Little Big Band will perform from 1 to 2 p.m. at the community building.

They needed kids. That she had. There were 14 siblings in the Budke family.Eight of those siblings were cast in a scene from "Paper Moon," which was filmed in Wilson, Hays and locations around Ellis County.Dennis and Chuck recounted their memories of the filming Saturday during the "Paper Moon" Festival in Wilson, which celebrated the 50th anniversary of the film's release.<figure>

 </figure>The Budke family was in a scene during which Moze, played by Ryan O'Neal, and Addie, played by his daughter Tatum O'Neal, try to sell a Bible to a poor family.&nbsp;The widow comes to the door and her many children, the Budke siblings, file in behind her. Addie turns to Moze and tells him the Bible is paid for.&nbsp;Dennis, who was about 10 when the movie was filmed, remembers his youngest sibling in the scene, his sister who was about 2, kept crying. The crew tried to get her to stop, but she just keep crying.Finally, they decided to precede and include the crying child in the scene.<figure>

He said Tatum was much like she was in the movie, complaining to her dad about her ham sandwich.He said his siblings played with Tatum on a nearby playground between takes."It was a pretty good experience," Dennis said, "It was kind of scary at first. We got to see all of these people and the lights and trucks and trailers."Chuck, who was only 5 during the filming, said the filming of the movie was one of his earliest memories. Chuck is now a resident of Salina.<figure>

 </figure>Chuck was so small that the crew gave him a couple of Sears catalogs to stand on so he could be seen in the shot.Dennis still has the pay stub from the film. It was for a whopping $14.Both men remember the Hays premiere of the film, which included a red carpet showing at the Fox Theatre in downtown Hays.The boys, who came from a family of modest means, remember drinking pop and eating popcorn, a rare treat.Dennis said a few girls even asked him for his autograph.The McCraken Historical Museum still has a newspaper clipping from the time that includes a picture of the eight Bubke siblings who were in the movie.<figure>

'Paper Moon' extras recall filming during 50th anniversary festival in Wilson

LINDSBORG - Works by Clarke, Faure, and Beethoven will be featured during the Chamber Orchestra of the Smoky Valley's final concert of the season.

The concert is scheduled for 4 p.m. May 14 in Bethany Lutheran Church, 320 N. Main Street, in Lindsborg, and is open to the public at no charge.

The chamber orchestra is a unique, auditioned regional ensemble of professional musicians supported by Bethany College and the Lindsborg Arts Council. 

"The ensemble includes Bethany faculty members and players from Wichita, Manhattan, Salina, Lawrence, and Kansas City. Under the musical direction of Keith Dodson, assistant professor of music and director of instrumental studies, the COSV seeks to educate and engage audience members through the performance of orchestral masterworks," Bethany College noted in a news release.

Concertmaster Ann Samuelson will lead the concert. Samuelson is a retired instructor of music in violin/viola and piano proficiency at Bethany College. She also is a member of the Wichita Symphony Orchestra and maintains a private studio. The chamber orchestra also features Nancy Johnson, Boris Vayner, Meagan Dodson, Andrew Book, Colleen White, Alyssa Morris, Amy Guffey, Susan Gustavson Maxwell, Meri Jenkins, Larry Dean, Daniel Hinman, and Kurt Gartner.

Chamber Orchestra of the Smoky Valley to conclude season May 14

Sixteen regional bands playing a variety of musical genres will take the Eric Stein Stage June 8 as the 37th annual SM Hanson Festival Jam kicks off the 2023 Smoky Hill River Festival.

The Smoky Hill River Festival is scheduled for June 8-11 in Salina's Oakdale Park.

"This fast-paced evening of music is fun for all," according to Rick Hanson, CEO and president of SM Hanson Music, Inc.

Last year, more than 13,000 people attended the SM Hanson Festival Jam.

Gates open at 4 p.m. on June 8 and the music begins at 6 p.m.

Admission is by Smoky Hill River Festival wristband. The wristbands are $15 in advance and $20 at the gate. Additionally, daily wristbands will be sold at the gate for $10 per person per day. Children ages 11 and under get in free.

6 p.m. Keep the Change This band opened the show last year. A project of Steve Hanson – Abilene high school students of Steve Hanson and Dean Kranzler, this six-piece band will play rock to start our show.

6:15 p.m. FedUp A four-piece band from Salina playing rock. This band played the Jam in 2015 and 2022. The Salina-based band has been together for 10 years.

6:30 p.m. The Radicles A Salina band playing a mix of eclectic rock. A four-piece band you will enjoy.

6:45 p.m. Don Wagner &amp; Friends Don and friends have played the Jam previously – always entertaining with a mix of country, rock, blues, and folk music.

7 p.m. Jon’Nea Soul New to the Jam – this Wichita-based four-piece band will play R&amp;B and soul music. There is a local connection to Salina. We are excited to hear them play at the 37th SM Hanson Festival Jam.

7:15 p.m. Ghost Town Revival First time at the Jam for this five-piece band. A Salina band playing classic rock and blues. Some of these guys have done this before.

7:30 p.m. Lix A band from the past – older now and yet... This original Salina three-piece band has added a bass player – so make that four-piece. These guys will play classic rock and blues.

7:45 p.m. The Opinions Forty years ago (so they say), these guys formed their band in Salina. Now, they have real jobs and live mostly in the Kansas City area. They played last year and we are glad to have them again.

8 p.m. Soul Preachers A Salina three-piece band – they have played the Jam previously, but it has been a few years. They play Roger Miller death shred metal – with Eric Copeland on drums.

8:15 p.m. Hey Radio A Wichita-based band – these guys lit it up in 2019 and 2022. We look forward to their mix of skate punk and pop (with a little energy).

8:30 p.m. Starslinger New to the Festival Jam, this three-piece band from Hays America has been playing dates around the Midwest for seven years. Get ready for alternative/psych/space rock – that’s right!

8:45 p.m. Dune Buggy These guys have played before. This Pet Project consists of five members playing together for several years. Their quick set will include rock and pop.

9 p.m. Northcutt A crowd favorite – five-piece Salina band playing red-dirt country/rock/blues.

9:15 p.m. Bootleg Mercy This four-piece band rocks! One magazine said “Kick-A__-Rock” from Kansas. These guys have multiple rock music award nominations. Revamped lineup since their last Jam in 2016 – something to see!

9:30 Steve Hanson &amp; Co. The founder – this is their 37th time at the Jam. Always a variety – always great.

9:45 p.m. The Blades This band has so many great players – it is really hard to count all of the people on stage! We hope to have enough room on stage.

When the Sunset Sinners take the City Lights Stage in downtown Salina Saturday, fans will hear some of their favorites, but they also will get to hear new music by the group that has yet to be released.

The Sinners' performance is a part of Salina Downtown Inc.'s Santa Fe Weekender event going on Friday and Saturday in downtown Salina.

The Wedel Financial and Salina Downtown Inc.'s Weekender Concert will begin at 2 p.m. at the City Lights Stage. 

"We have a band, some pretty young cool cats that play some '80s stuff called Visual Lies, and they're playing from 2-3 p.m. and then the Sunset Sinners play from 3 to 5ish," said Blake Blackim, Sunset Sinners drummer and spokesperson. 

Blackim noted that the free event is a "lawn chair, cooler concert."

A Rollin' Smoke BBQ food truck also is scheduled to be on hand.

Blackim said that in addition to favorites such as Always Time For One More Beer and Friday Night, the band will perform new music that has yet to be released to music streaming services and radio stations.

"We have two brand new songs that are recorded but have not been released yet," he said. "The first song that will be coming out is called Coming Home. It's based on the military veteran that's done with his service and now he's back home and it's kind of like, 'now what do I do?'"

Another song that will come out later is called Meant to Be.

"It's honestly our first kind of love ballad song," Blackim said.

When Coming Home is released, probably next month, it will have enhancements from some Grammy Award winners.

"Coming Home, we're super excited about because around the first of the year, we started working with Jesse Atwell of Atwell Management out of Austin (Texas)," Blackim said. "He's worked extensively in the music industry, with Sony Records in New York and Nashville and another group called Thirty Tigers label in Nashville. He's worked with a lot of bands that are big now like Whiskey Myers and Scotty McCreery, and folks like that."

Atwell is a Salina native and a graduate of Salina Central High School, Blackim said.

Through Atwell's contacts, the Sunset Sinner's song Coming Home came to the attention of some Grammy Award winners.

"The cool thing about this song is that we have all sorts of Grammy Award winner-industry heavy hitters that worked on this particular song," Blackim said. "Andrew Scheps, who is one of the most famous industry music engineers, we sent the song to him. He really liked it. He's won three Grammy Awards. He's worked extensively with everybody from Adele to the Red Hot Chili Peppers to Lady Gaga to Black Sabbath and Whiskey Myers. And that's a short list."

After Scheps worked his magic on Coming Home, the song was sent to Peter Limon, a Grammy-nominated music mastering engineer who owns Infrasonic Mastering.

"Peter does all the mastering for Chris Stapleton, Sturgill Simpson, and folks like that," Blackim said.

Additionally, the Dodd Sisters out of Austin, Texas, who also are Grammy Award winners, are doing the cover design work for the song, he said.

"So for the mixing, the mastering, and the artwork, we're working with all of these Grammy, big heavy-hitter industry folks. What that does besides just having a cool, great-sounding song, it opens doors in other areas for folks in the industry to open their eyes to go 'oh wow! These cats are actually doing something big,'" Blackim said.

The Sunset Sinners also are working on a follow-up to Always Time For One More Beer titled Two Beers.

"Ironically, this summer is the four-year anniversary of when we filmed the video for One More Beer," Blackim said.

Most of the music video for Always Time For One More Beer was filmed at the Hideaway bar in Salina.

"That was only supposed to be just to get a 10-second clip for the actual video, but it ended up blowing up and taking on a life of its own, so the majority of the video is from what happened that day," Blackim explained.

"So actually, there's going to be a four-year anniversary party in July at the Hideaway on a Saturday afternoon, and yes, we will be filming just in case there's some cool footage to get out of that for our new song coming out," he said.

The band also plans to remaster and rerelease Always Time For One More Beer and Friday Night, Blackim said.

Sunset Sinners' playing downtown Weekender concert, working with Grammy winners

The Santa Fe Weekender kicks off Friday, and with all that is happening in downtown Salina, you won't want to miss out!

"It is a big weekend! This weekend is full of free live music and public art with the kickoff of SculptureTour Salina 2023," said Leslie Bishop, Salina Downtown Inc. executive director.

"This weekend is an excellent example of all the hard work we have done to make Downtown Salina the community neighborhood. We are working hard to make Salina Downtown a 'destination' and with all of our wonderful stores and restaurants, it is true, Downtown Salina – no better place to be – this weekend and every day!" Bishop added.

Salina Downtown Inc.'s First Friday Live Entertainment Series will continue from 6-8 p.m. Friday at City Lights Stage, N. Santa Fe Avenue and W. Ash Street, when The Radicles are scheduled to perform.

Peaceful Body Wellness Retreat, 148 S. Santa Fe Avenue, plans to have an artist reception for Noah Flores from 5-7 p.m. Friday. Flores is scheduled to speak about his painting style and inspiration at 6 p.m.

Additionally, Subvert Studio, 116 E. Iron, will have an open studio from 5-8 p.m. Friday.

Saturday's events begin with the 2023 SculptureTour Salina Unwrap Party from 11-1 p.m. The 13th annual SculptureTour Salina exhibit throughout downtown Salina will feature 22 new sculptures.

All of the sculptures will be unwrapped at 11 a.m. 

The public is invited to pick up walking tour/ballot forms for the SculptureTour Salina exhibit at the following locations.

●One of the silver boxes at the mid-block pedestrian crossings on Santa Fe Avenue in downtown Salina

●At the Visit Salina Info trailer which will be located in City Lights Stage plaza on Saturday.

After looking at all the new sculptures, participants can vote for their favorite sculptures and then return their ballots to one of the silver boxes or the Visit Salina trailer. You don't have to make a decision immediately, however, as ballots can be submitted through Dec. 31.

Voting is open to persons of all ages and special promotions and contests for voters are planned throughout the year. 

The winning sculpture traditionally is purchased by the City of Salina for up to $15,000 and permanently placed in a public location within the city.

At 1 p.m. Saturday at the City Lights Stage, other SculptureTour Salina Juror's Merit Awards, including Best of Show, will be announced.

Then, the Wedel Financial and Salina Downtown Inc.'s Weekender Concert will begin at 2 p.m. at the City Lights Stage. Visual Lies is scheduled to open for the Sunset Sinners.

"We also have Rollin’ Smoke BBQ Food truck joining us for the afternoon," Bishop said.

Additionally, after 5 p.m., the Prickly Pear Grill and Cantina, 123 S. Santa Fe, plans to have live music, Bishop noted.

"Sunday, there will be live music during the Prickly Pear Brunch service and the finale is the final performance of the season for the Salina Symphony at 4 p.m. with Passion," Bishop said.

This week also is Small Business Appreciation Week and to celebrate, $25 gift cards for downtown businesses are only $20 each on the <a href="https://www.salinadowntown.org/shop">Salina Downtown Inc. website</a>.
