A 23-year-old Hutchinson man is facing a long list of charges after allegedly committing two armed robberies, leading officers on a pursuit, and barricading himself inside an occupied home Sunday evening.

According to the Hutchinson Police Department, officers were dispatched around 7:19 p.m. on July 13 to a business in the 500 block of East 17th Avenue for an armed robbery. By the time officers arrived, the suspect had already fled. Officers and deputies with the Reno County Sheriff’s Office began searching the area.

Just over 20 minutes later, at about 7:41 p.m., police were called to a second armed robbery at a business in the 400 block of East 4th Avenue. Investigators say the suspect description matched the first incident.

At approximately 7:52 p.m., officers located the suspect vehicle near 17th Avenue and Plum Street. When a deputy attempted a traffic stop, the driver refused to pull over, leading to a pursuit that ended when the suspect crashed into a residence in the 400 block of East 18th Avenue. The suspect then fled into an occupied home but was quickly taken into custody.

Police say the vehicle used in the robberies was reported stolen earlier that day from the 1600 block of Center Street.

Malachi J. Sims, 23, was arrested and booked into the Reno County Correctional Facility. Kansas armed robbery suspect captured after chase, crash

JACKSON COUNTY—Law enforcement are investigating two suspects on multiple allegations after a traffic stop.

Just after 11:30p.m. July 10,&nbsp; a&nbsp;Sheriff’s Deputy conducted a traffic stop on a 2009 Lexus for multiple alleged traffic violations near U.S. 75 Highway and 214th Road in rural Jackson County, according to Sheriff Tim Morse.

The driver of the vehicle was identified as Jermaine Hinnant, 54, and passenger as&nbsp;Viola Praylow, 58, both of Topeka.

During the course of the traffic stop probable cause was established to search the vehicle, which resulted in the discovery of illegal drugs, and narcotics.

Viola Praylow was booked into the Jackson County Jail on requested charges of felony interference with law enforcement, possession of crack/cocaine, possession of a hallucinogenic drug, possession of drug paraphernalia and transporting an open container.

Viola Praylow was also arrested for two felony warrants. One through Shawnee County, Kansas for probation violation with the original charge being theft; 2 prior convictions in 5 years. One through Douglas County, Kansas for theft, and contributing to a child misconduct; encourage to commit traffic infraction.

Jermaine Hinnant was arrested and booked into the Jackson County Jail on requested charges of driving under the influence of alcohol, no ignition interlock device when required, driving while suspended, driving with expired registration, operate motor vehicle with no insurance, possession of a hallucinogenic drug and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Kansas woman with a history crime accused of theft, cocaine possession

A recently announced candidate for Hays City Commission was arrested on a charge of alleged blackmail Friday.

According to district court records, 23-year-old Samuel Emerson Allen of Hays allegedly tried to obtain $50 by threatening to share nude photos or videos of someone obtained through a dating app on June 27.

Blackmail is a level 4 person felony in Kansas. Public records said the court ordered Allen’s arrest with an appearance bond set at $40,000.

Ellis County booking records show Allen was booked for failure to appear. Ellis County Attorney Aaron J. Cunningham was contacted but declined to comment.

Allen announced his candidacy for the Hays City Commission in the 2025 municipal election on June 23 and is completing his degree in political science at Fort Hays State University.

After a courageous four-month battle following a medical procedure, Le Roy Gene “Gene” Hindman passed peacefully on July 12, 2025, surrounded by the love of his family. Though our hearts are heavy, we celebrate a life filled with kindness, humor, and a spirit that left an indelible mark on everyone who had the pleasure to know him. Gene was a gentle soul with a fierce spirit – the kind of man who could light up a room with a single smile or a well-timed “Hey, buddy!” He believed in taking life slow, enjoying each moment, and leaving people better than he found them.

Born May 17, 1942, Gene was the cherished son of James Ervin “Erv” Hindman and Mildred Johnson, and later stepson to Lucille.

He is survived by his devoted wife and best friend, Virginia Hindman (Morris), whose hand he held through life’s every high and low. Their love—rooted in patience, laughter, and the phrase “Always and forever”—was the kind you read about in books.

Gene is also survived by his brothers, Gary Hindman (wife Carol, d. 2015), Jamie Hunter (Leann); nephews Michael Hindman (RaShelle), Shane Hunter (Deanna); and a multitude of great nieces, nephews, and cousins; children, Wayne Barham (Reta), Tonya Johnson (Chris), and Sonya Burgess; grandchildren, each of whom held a special place in his heart: Cevon Johnson, Isaiah Johnson, Angelica Hinklin, Allen Barham (Jamie), Alisa Cole (Chuck), Angelina Burgess, Daenara Burgess (Nima), Tonya Burgess, Rachel Burgess (Chris), Christopher Burgess, Jessica Sumahit (Mike), and Amber Hamilton (Gerald); and great-grandchildren, who brought him endless joy: Alyssa Barham, Detrique Barham, Jasper Barham, Wyatt Cole, Olivia Cole, Klohe Leonard, Anthony Leonard, Maxwell Burgess, Greyson Burgess-Tatad, Brycen Sumahit, Bella Sumahit, Biship Klinger, Rayne Janes, Nahani White, Omaria White, Phynlee White, and Qekin White.

He was preceded in death by his parents, stepmother, beloved sister Dee Palmer; and niece, Shannon Lopatowski.Gene loved spending time with extended family in Missouri with his brothers and sister-in-laws, and with his nieces and nephews in Tennessee, Arkansas, and Colorado. Family meant everything to him. Whether camping, fishing, playing cards, or manning the grill with his son-in-law Chris Johnson, Gene brought light and laughter to every room. He especially loved the quiet days spent in his Man Cave—one of many heartfelt projects he and Chris tackled together.

A proud veteran, Gene served three years in the National Guard, held an honorary badge from the Sheriff’s Department, where he once served, and was a longtime member of the Shriner’s and the Salina Elk’s Club. He spent decades working as a car salesman, and continued doing what he loved until the age of 82. His coworkers remember him as dependable, generous, and always up for a chat and a chuckle.

Gene had a pocketful of sayings for every occasion. He reminded us, “If you can fix it, fix it. If you can’t, don’t worry about it.” He greeted life with a smile, entered every room with a friendly “What y’all doing?” and taught his grandchildren to “slow down and enjoy”—not just sandwiches, but life itself.

His passing leaves a deep void, especially for Virginia, who now carries not only the weight of loss but the financial burden of laying her husband to rest.  The investigation into the traffic stop led to the discovery of illegal drug contraband. 

Vonda Jewell Lacour , 63, of Carnegie, Oklahoma, was arrested and booked into the Jackson County Jail on requested charges that include possession of methamphetamine, possession of a hallucinogenic drug and possession of drug paraphernalia.

SHAWNEE COUNTY—Law enforcement are investigating a Kansas felon on new drug allegations after an encounter with a deputy sheriff.

Just after 8p.m. June 29,&nbsp; a sheriff's deputy made contact with a man in the 200 block of NE Norris Street in rural Shawnee County, according to Deputy Abigail Christian.

During the encounter, it was discovered that the individual, identified as 37-year-old Daniel S. Brewer of Topeka had a warrant for his arrest. The deputy also found illegal narcotics.

The deputy arrested Brewer booked him into the Shawnee County Department of Corrections (SNDOC) on the requested charges of Possession of an opiate, opium, narcotic or certain stimulant and Use/possess with intent to use drug paraphernalia into human body

Brewer had a parole violation hold for the Kansas Department of Corrections. He has previous convictions for burglary, theft and drugs according to the Kansas Dept. of Corrections.

Just before 4a.m. July 9, a sheriff's deputy&nbsp;conducted a traffic stop on a bicyclist near NE Paramore Street and NE Quincy Street for a traffic violation, according to Deputy Abigail Christian. During the investigation, the individual initially gave a false name and date of birth. 

When notified that he had a warrant for his arrest, the man then gave his real name and date of birth, in which he also had a warrant for his arrest. Illegal narcotics were also located.

Geddy L. Barlow, 37, of Topeka, was arrested and booked into the Shawnee County Dept. of Corrections on requested charges of Possession of an opiate, opium, narcotic or certain stimulant, Use/possess with intent to use drug paraphernalia into human body and Interference with law enforcement.

Kan. drug suspect on bicycle lied to deputy about his name

A male suspect from July's 2025 Most Wanted list, has been arrested according to the Saline County Sheriff's Office. The suspect is identified as 22-year old,&nbsp;Shane Richard Michael Boyett of Salina.

He was arrested on Thursday, July 10th and was booked in the Saline County Jail for the following requested charges:

Probation Violation, Failure to Appear, Interference with Law Enforcement, Obstruction and a Felony Warrant.

Suspect from July 2025 Most Wanted list arrested

SEDGWICK COUNTY —A man injured in a fatal fight on July 4, made his first court appearance in the case Wednesday.

&nbsp;Eduardo Diaz-Yobal, 33, is charged with first-degree murder in&nbsp;the death of 43-year-old Cesar Gonzalez, according to the Sedgwick County District Attorney's office.

Early Friday, police responded to a report of an assault in the 3000 block of North Fairview in Wichita, according to a media release from Wichita Police. A caller reported witnessing a man attacking another man. The victim was later identified as 33-year-old Cesar Gonzalez of Wichita.&nbsp;

Before officers arrived, the suspect fled the scene. Officers found Gonzalez unresponsive in the parking lot. Sedgwick County EMS transported him to an area hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased at 1:54 a.m.

Officers located the suspect identified in Sedgwick County arrest records as&nbsp;<a href="https://ssc.sedgwickcounty.org/inmatesearch/Details.aspx?Id=254855">Eduardo Diaz-Yorbal, 33, Wichita,</a>&nbsp;in the 300 block of W. 29th Street and took him into custody without incident.

On Tuesday, 21-year-old James Sawyer&nbsp;pleaded guilty in Judge Jeffrey Goering's courtroom to second-degree murder and attempted aggravated robbery in the death of 34-year-old Daniel McPherson, according to the Sedgwick County District Attorney's office.

On Dec. 6, 2023, the Blackwell, Oklahoma Police Department contacted Sedgwick County Dispatch, reporting a shooting investigation involving two individuals including Sawyer and 18-year-old Phillip Walls who had entered a Blackwell hospital, with one of them sustaining a gunshot wound, according to Officer Andrew Ford.

Following discussions with the subjects, Blackwell Police shared information with Sedgwick County Dispatch. Consequently, the Wichita Police Department was alerted to respond to the Hydraulic and MacArthur area based on information suggesting that the shooting victim, 34-year-old Daniel McPherson, would be found there.

Upon arrival, officers discovered McPherson with a gunshot wound to his head. He&nbsp;was pronounced dead at the scene. Homicide investigators were dispatched to conduct the investigation and later traveled to Blackwell, Oklahoma where Walls and&nbsp;James Sawyer, 19, Wichita, were in custody.&nbsp;

In 2024, Walls pleaded guilty to multiple charges related to the shooting and&nbsp;was sentenced to more than 27 years in prison, according to the district attorney's office.

Suspect admits role in 2023 Kansas killing

SEDGWICK COUNTY — An inmate accused in an attack on a Kansas jail deputy returned to court Wednesday afternoon for a preliminary hearing.

James Chavez, 21, entered a guilty plea to charges of aggravated battery before Judge Chrystal Krier, according to the Sedgwick County District Attorney's office.&nbsp;

On April 14, a Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office Detention Deputy suffered serious burns after an inmate identified as Chavez launched a targeted attack inside the Sedgwick County Adult Detention Facility.

The incident happened while the deputy was speaking with inmates in a housing pod.&nbsp; Chavez obtained a pot of boiling water and threw it on the deputy, causing second and third-degree burns to the back part of his body.

Sedgwick County EMS transported the deputy to a local hospital, where he was admitted to the Burn Unit. The 30-year-old deputy who has served with the Sheriff’s Office for nearly two years is expected.

Chavez was originally booked into the detention facility in March 2024 on pending juvenile charges and later faced an additional charge for trafficking contraband into a correctional facility He has had 39 documented disciplinary incidents since entering the facility.

He is scheduled for sentencing August 22, according to the district attorney's office.

Prisoner admits throwing scalding water on Kan. jail deputy

CHEROKEE COUNTY&nbsp;– The Kansas Bureau of Investigation (KBI) and the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office arrested a firefighter of the Coffeyville Fire Department for child sex crimes.

Just after 8:30a.m. Wednesday,&nbsp; KBI agents arrested 25-year-old Spencer Barnard, of Baxter Springs, after a traffic stop in Cherokee County. Barnard was arrested on requested charges of sexual exploitation of a child and aggravated indecent solicitation of a child, according to a media release from the KBI.

KBI agents and sheriff’s deputies also conducted a search warrant at a residence at 1004 Cherokee Ave., in Baxter Springs, related to the case.

Following the arrest, Barnard was booked into the Cherokee County Jail.&nbsp;

The driver, later identified as 25-year-old Anthony A. Weems of Topeka, refused to stop and initiated a pursuit. The pursuit ended in the 500 block of SE Lamar Street when Weems ran from the pickup. Investigators eventually found him inside a residence nearby.

Weems was arrested and booked into the Shawnee County Department of Corrections on requested charge of Possession of stolen property, Flee or attempt to elude, Fail to stop at a stop sign, Operating a motor vehicle without a valid license, Reckless driving, Speeding and Failure to give signal when changing lanes or turning.

Inmate in scalding water attack on Kan. deputy is due back in court 

Justices challenge claim partially obstructed text on license plate justifies traffic stop

TOPEKA — The Kansas Supreme Court reversed the drug-trafficking conviction of an Illinois-tagged motorist linked to evidence seized from a vehicle stopped by Geary County law enforcement merely because the frame around a license plate obstructed part of the state’s name.

The unanimous Supreme Court noted Kansas statute didn’t require a state’s name on license plates to be clearly legible. The justices agreed partial obstruction of a word on the out-of-state plate at the center of this case couldn’t provide a Kansas law enforcement officer the opportunity to formulate reasonable suspicion that a crime was or would occur to warrant a traffic stop.

This saga began in March 2021 when Geary County sheriff’s deputy Bradley Rose pulled over motorist Brian Beck on Interstate 70 near Junction City because he noticed half of the word “Illinois” couldn’t be easily read on the tag.

Rose nevertheless called in Beck’s tag to dispatch as “Illinois Charles John 14442” before stepping out of his cruiser, the Supreme Court opinion said. Rose said at trial Beck appeared “extremely nervous,” was breathing deeply during the traffic stop and admitted to being lost. The deputy decided that was enough to detain Beck and call in a drug dog.

During the canine inspection, the animal alerted to possible presence of illegal drugs. The vehicle search revealed a satchel with 2.1 pounds of methamphetamine. At one point, Beck tried to flee the scene but was arrested.

Geary County District Judge Courtney Boehm, an appointee of Republican Gov. Jeff Colyer, rejected the defendant’s motion to suppress evidence obtained in the search. Beck was found guilty of possession with intent to distribute, failure to purchase a drug tax stamp and interference with a law enforcement officer.

Beck, 56, was sentenced to at least 10 years in prison and was at Winfield Correctional Facility when the Supreme Court’s decision was handed down. A Kansas Department of Corrections spokesman said the agency wouldn’t release inmates until a court forwarded necessary paperwork to the prison.

In 2024, a three-judge panel of the Kansas Court of Appeals affirmed Beck’s convictions based on a belief Beck’s license plate wasn’t clearly visible as required.

Beck filed an appeal to the Supreme Court, which concluded the Geary County judge applied an improper legal standard for deciding whether law enforcement had reasonable suspicion to justify a stop and search. The justices likewise concluded the Court of Appeals reached the wrong determination on suppression of evidence.

“We reject the analytic framework adopted by the lower courts and their conclusions of law,” the Supreme Court decision said.

The Supreme Court opinion authored by Justice Eric Rosen wiped Beck’s convictions off the books and sent the case back to district court to determine whether the deputy had “constitutionally valid grounds for making the stop and seizure.”

The high court’s 13-page opinion could serve as a roadmap for Geary County’s reexamination of available evidence in the Beck case.

“No statute requires displaying the Kansas state name anywhere other than on the registration decal, where it may be abbreviated,” said Rosen, who was appointed by Democratic Gov. Kathleen Sebelius. “It places no such requirement on anything else printed on a license plate, whether it is an ‘I’m Pet Friendly’ logo or a state name.”

The Supreme Court’s decision could offer relief to thousands of drivers in Kansas who installed or left in place brackets on license plates and unwittingly opened themselves to traffic stops, drug-dog searches and seizures by law enforcement.

Supreme Court Justice Dan Biles, who also was appointed by Sebelius, was among members of the Supreme Court perplexed by willingness of the lower courts to broaden license plate regulation in a way that threatened motorists with a fine up to $2,500 or a jail sentence ranging from 30 days to six months.

“There are a lot of frames that cover up half of the word ‘Kansas’ — a lot,” Biles said during oral argument of the case in November. “Anyone driving with that frame is subject to six months in jail? Is that where we’re at with the state’s position on this and this Court of Appeals’ decision?”

“I believe that’s what the statute says,” said Kansas assistant solicitor general Ethan Zipf-Sigler, who unsuccessfully fought to sustain the verdict against Beck.

Biles said the court record in the case was troubling because of assertions license plates in Kansas had to be clearly legible to a law enforcement officer located a safe distance from a targeted vehicle.

“I’m really struck by how arbitrary the enforcement aspect is,” Biles said. “I can’t help but think the state is adding words to a statute that we don’t get to do.”

Attorney Kasper Schirer, senior assistant appellate defender, argued on Beck’s behalf before the Supreme Court and said the traffic stop was unlawful from the outset.

“When no law has been violated, when no traffic law has been violated, the Fourth Amendment does not allow for suspicionless seizures,” he said.

The vehicle search revealed a satchel with 2.1 pounds of methamphetamine. At one point, Beck tried to flee the scene but was arrested.Geary County District Judge Courtney Boehm, an appointee of Republican Gov. Jerry enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in January 1968 where he attended boot camp and mortar training in California, then transitioned to Vietnam where he was stationed from July 1968-August 1969 with the 1st&nbsp;Marine Division, 5th&nbsp;Marine Regiment, 3rd&nbsp;Battalion, H&amp;S Company near An Hoa, Vietnam. In that time, he rose to the rank of Corporal and was section leader in mortars. For his services he received the Presidential Unit Citation, Meritorious Unit Commendation Ribbon, Combat Action Ribbon, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal W/1*, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal with device, Republic of Vietnam Meritorious Unit Citation, and the Rifle Sharpshooters Badge.

Jerry started his career with Southwestern Bell in Topeka in 1972 as an engineering assistant in the switching department, then he and his family moved to Parsons in 1975 where he took a job as an outside plant engineer until 1989, then the family moved to Wichita where he was an outside plant engineer until his retirement on September 11, 2001. After his retirement they moved to Topeka to be closer to family and where it was a better climate for gardening, which Jerry loved to do. In his younger days Jerry loved to hunt and fish with his family members and friends, and they had the best of times and where Jerry had very fond memories. Sad to say Jerry was a bookaholic and read anything he could get his hands on but especially loved Louis L’ Amour books for their life lessons.

During retirement Jerry spent thousands of hours researching his family genealogy. Another accomplishment he was extremely proud of was writing a book on gold mining and the gold rush which was called: Grant’s Mining Districts of the Western United States (Vol 1 &amp; 2) and having it in the Library of Congress.

Jerry is survived by his wife of 55 years Janet M. (Tieking) Grant (Married on November 22,1969) and his sons, Jason Grant of Shawnee and Aaron Grant of the home. His mother Della Hefner, brother Terry Grant, Concordia, brothers and sisters-in-law Pat Newell of Riley, Joan and Larry Perkins of Hays, Chris and Scott Ostermann of Abilene&nbsp;and many nieces and nephews.&nbsp;Others who predeceased him in death were his father Wayne Grant of Concordia, brother Eric Grant of Clay Center, Step-Father Bud Hefner, Grandparents Ernest P. Grant and Bessie M. Just after 2a.m. July 4, a sheriff's deputy located a stolen silver 2024 Toyota Tacoma in the 1600 block of SE 29th Street, according to Deputy Abigail Christian.

 The deputy attempted to conduct a traffic stop. The driver refused to stop and initiated a pursuit. The vehicle pursuit ended near SE Michigan Avenue and SE Morrison Street when the occupants ran from the pickup.

&nbsp;Multiple officers searched the area, a K-9 Unit with the Topeka Police Department began tracking and a drone was quickly deployed. The driver was located nearby.

Three suspects from July 2025 Most Wanted list arrested 

SEDGWICK COUNTY— A man arrested in connection with a deadly fight on July 4, will make a court appearance this week.

Officers located the suspect identified in Sedgwick County arrest records as <a href="https://ssc.sedgwickcounty.org/inmatesearch/Details.aspx?Id=254855">Eduardo Diaz-Yorbal, 33, Wichita,</a> in the 300 block of W. 29th Street and took him into custody without incident.

 </figure>SEDGWICK COUNTY— A man arrested in connection with a deadly fight on July 4, will make a court appearance this week.Early Friday, police responded to a report of an assault in the 3000 block of North Fairview in Wichita, according to a media release from Wichita Police. A caller reported witnessing a man attacking another man. The victim was later identified as 33-year-old Cesar Gonzalez of Wichita.&nbsp;Before officers arrived, the suspect fled the scene. Officers found Gonzalez unresponsive in the parking lot. Sedgwick County EMS transported him to an area hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased at 1:54 a.m.Officers located the suspect identified in Sedgwick County arrest records as <a href="https://ssc.sedgwickcounty.org/inmatesearch/Details.aspx?Id=254855">Eduardo Diaz-Yorbal, 33, Wichita,</a> in the 300 block of W. 29th Street and took him into custody without incident. Diaz-Yorbal had injuries consistent with the altercation and was admitted to an area hospital for treatment, released and then booked into the Sedgwick County Jail on requested charges of first-degree murder and for a probation violation, according to online jail records.

Kansas suspect injured in deadly July 4, fight is due in court

Wayne Keith Bowles was born on September 1, 1952, and left this world on July 2, 2025. Wayne, a lifelong resident of Mitchell and Osborne Counties was a businessman, entrepreneur, and family focused man who provided Automotive, Fuel, and Propane needs in the area for over 50 years. As a father and grandfather he was one for the books. His love and devotion to his children and grandchildren is difficult to express and even more difficult to match. He spent most of his free time riding his motorcycles and volunteering to babysit the grandkids - welcoming each and every new addition with joy. To Wayne - the more kids the merrier - never hesitating, even when faced with 9 kids under 9 years old including an infant. He loved his grandchildren with his whole heart and it showed. Wayne took his responsibilities further than just his family, supporting many of the local residents, farmers, and businesses as a partner and friend, being a fundamental pillar of those communities. He was a true community player and was always available to help when needed. He was an avid supporter of the local schools, councils, and non-profits that his children and grandchildren were involved in and was always ready for a new ‘interesting’ or ‘different’ adventure of food and road trips on his motorcycle.

His family, friends, and community will be forever changed by his passing.

SEDGWICK COUNTY —Law enforcement are investigating a suspect in connection with the child abuse death of a toddler.

On July 3, police responded to Wesley Medical Center after being notified of a two-year-old boy who was brought to the hospital with severe injuries after a reported fall, according to Wichita Police Captain Aaron Moses.

During the investigation, it was determined that the injuries sustained by the child were inconsistent with the facts provided by the adult caring for the child at the time they were injured.&nbsp;

Patrol officers and investigators from the Exploited Missing Children’s Unit and the WPD Homicide Unit began investigating this case due to the severity of the injuries.&nbsp;

On Thursday police arrested the 33-year-old step-father of the child, identified from booking records as Shawn D. Lewis, on requested charges of Aggravated Battery, head trauma/permanent and Child Abuse.

On Saturday the child, John Landon Delano, died due to his injuries. Shawn Lewis has now been booked into Sedgwick County Jail on a requested charge of First Degree Murder. 

The facts of this case will be presented to the Sedgwick County District Attorney for formal charging consideration.&nbsp;

 </figure>SEDGWICK COUNTY —Law enforcement are investigating a suspect in connection with the child abuse death of a toddler.On July 3, police responded to Wesley Medical Center after being notified of a two-year-old boy who was brought to the hospital with severe injuries after a reported fall, according to Wichita Police Captain Aaron Moses.During the investigation, it was determined that the injuries sustained by the child were inconsistent with the facts provided by the adult caring for the child at the time they were injured.&nbsp;Patrol officers and investigators from the Exploited Missing Children’s Unit and the WPD Homicide Unit began investigating this case due to the severity of the injuries.&nbsp;On Thursday police arrested the 33-year-old step-father of the child, identified from booking records as Shawn D. Lewis, on requested charges of Aggravated Battery, head trauma/permanent and Child Abuse.On Saturday the child, John Landon Delano, died due to his injuries. Shawn Lewis has now been booked into Sedgwick County Jail on a requested charge of First Degree Murder. The facts of this case will be presented to the Sedgwick County District Attorney for formal charging consideration.&nbsp;

OPINION: The economy of genocide

SEDGWICK COUNTY—Law enforcement are investigating a deadly altercation and have made an arrest.

Officers located the suspect identified in Sedgwick County arrest records as Eduardo Diaz-Yorbal, 33, Wichita, in the 300 block of W. 29th Street and took him into custody without incident. 

Diaz-Yorbal had injuries consistent with the altercation and was admitted to an area hospital for treatment, released and then booked into the Sedgwick County Jail on requested charges of first-degree murder.&nbsp;

 </figure>SEDGWICK COUNTY—Law enforcement are investigating a deadly altercation and have made an arrest.Early Friday, police responded to a report of an assault in the 3000 block of North Fairview in Wichita, according to a media release from Wichita Police. A caller reported witnessing a man attacking another man. The victim was later identified as 33-year-old Cesar Gonzalez of Wichita.&nbsp;Before officers arrived, the suspect fled the scene. Officers found Gonzalez unresponsive in the parking lot.
