SEDGWICK COUNTY —The former Property and Evidence Supervisor at the Sedgwick County Sheriff's office made his first court appearance Wednesday in connection with&nbsp; an internal theft at the sheriff's office Property and Evidence storage site, according to the Sedgwick County District Attorney's office.

On June 26, Robert White, the former Property and Evidence Supervisor, was booked into the Sedgwick County Detention Facility on requested charges for Distribution of Cocaine, Felony Official Misconduct, 2 counts of Felony Theft, 3 counts of Misdemeanor Theft, and 10 counts of Possession with Intent, according to Sheriff's Lt. Tim Myers. He is spending the holiday weekend in custody, <a href="https://ssc.sedgwickcounty.org/sheriffinmates/SheriffInmateDetail.aspx?nameId=20066796">according to online jail records.</a>

On January 24, 2020, an administrative investigation was initiated on&nbsp; Property and Evidence Technician&nbsp;Marc Gordon. He was being investigated for not following proper procedures and policy violations. Gordon was suspended from work on February and arrested July 1.

On February 5, White was reassigned to another function of the Sheriff’s Office. On February 26, the investigation turned from an administrative investigation to a criminal investigation.&nbsp;

While conducting the internal audit, evidence was found to be missing. During the audit it was discovered that items set for destruction were missing. The time line stretches of effected cases goes back several years.&nbsp;

Since February 26th, authorities have been trying to identify any and all evidence that has been stolen and auditing evidence that is still in the sheriff's office possession. During this same time frame the criminal investigation has been progressing. Over 50,000 pieces of evidence are stored in Property and Evidence. Currently, officials know that approximately $145,000 in money, drugs, seven guns, and power tools were stolen. One of the stolen guns has been recovered.

He was united in marriage to Susie Wilma Ortmann on July 25, 1949. This union was blessed with 12 children. He was a crop and livestock farmer. Walter was a member of Emmaus Mennonite Church. He enjoyed reading, teaching Sunday school class, and was devoted to his family. TOPEKA –Law enforcement authorities are investigating a stabbing at a fireworks stand and have made an arrest.

Just after 9p.m. Thursday, police&nbsp; were called to a fireworks stand located near 21st and Fairlawn Road for a stabbing, according to police Lt. Matt Danielson.

Officers located the victim, who was an employee of the fireworks stand, and multiple witnesses who stated that a man had come up behind the victim and stabbed him. 

The suspect then left the area on foot. Witnesses relayed his whereabouts to law enforcement, and he was soon taken into custody a few blocks away.

As a result of the investigation, police arrested Austin Langley, 40, of Topeka, and booked into the Shawnee County Department of Corrections on a requested charge of Attempted Murder, according to Danielson.

Today in History -- July 4

SEDGWICK COUNTY — Law enforcement authorities are investigating a fatal shooting of a Kansas man and woman and have made an arrest.

In the early morning of January 2, police responded to a shooting call at the Hotel at WaterWalk in the 700 block of South Main, in Wichita, according to officer Kevin Wheeler.

Upon arrival, officers located the bodies of 27-year-old George Kirksey and 22-year-old Alicia Roman with multiple gunshot wounds, according to officer Kevin Wheeler.

The investigation revealed that Kirksey and Roman were inside of the hotel room when a suspect identified as 33-year-old Young entered the room and fired multiple shots, striking them and then fleeing on foot.

Investigators learned of Young's involvement through their investigation and have been working to locate him. 

Authorities recently located him in Mexico and made an arrest, according to Wheeler.

On Thursday, Young was transported back to Sedgwick County and booked into jail on requested charges of capital murder, aggravated burglary, criminal possession of a firearm and aggravated assault, according to Wheeler.

The case has been presented to the Sedgwick County District Attorney’s Office.

SEDGWICK COUNTY — Law enforcement authorities investigating&nbsp;an internal theft that included guns, drugs and $145,000 in cash at the Sedgwick County Property and Evidence storage site have made a second arrest.

On Wednesday, Marc Gordon, the former Property and Evidence Technician, was booked in the Sedgwick County Detention Facility on a warrant for Felony Official Misconduct and 3 counts of Misdemeanor Theft, according to sheriff's Lt. Tim Myers.

On June 26, Robert White, the former Property and Evidence Supervisor, was booked in the Sedgwick County Detention Facility for Distribution of Cocaine, Felony Official Misconduct, 2 counts of Felony Theft, 3 counts of Misdemeanor Theft, and 10 counts of Possession with Intent, according to Myers.

On January 24, an administrative investigation was initiated on a Gordon for not following proper procedures and policy violations. He was then suspended from work on February 3.

On February 5, White, the Property and Evidence Supervisor was reassigned to another function of the Sheriff’s Office. On February 26, the investigation turned from an administrative investigation to a criminal investigation. As of February 27, both of White and&nbsp; are no longer employed by the Sheriff’s Office.

While conducting an internal audit, evidence was found to be missing and it was discovered that items set for destruction were missing. The time line stretches of effected cases goes back several years.&nbsp;

Since February 26, sheriff's department investigators have been trying to identify any and all evidence that has been stolen and auditing evidence that is still in our possession. During this same time frame the criminal investigation has been progressing. Over 50,000 pieces of evidence are stored in Property and Evidence. Currently, we know that approximately $145,000 in money, drugs, seven guns, and power tools were stolen. One of the stolen guns has been recovered.

Authorities do not anticipate any other arrests in connection to the investigation at Property and Evidence, according to Myers.

SHAWNEE COUNTY — Law enforcement authorities are investigating a suspect on theft charges after a traffic stop in Kansas.

Just before 6a.m., Monday a sheriff's deputy stopped a Ford Ranger pickup truck pulling a trailer in the 2600 block ofNE Calhoun Bluff Road, according to Deputy Abigail Christian.

 The trailer was recently reported stolen out of Jefferson County. Deputies conducted a felony car stop and with the assistance of a Sheriff’s Office K9, arrested Travis D. Walker, 39, of Topeka and booked him into the Jefferson County Jail on requested felony theft charges.

The Shawnee County Sheriff’s Office said the quick communication from Jefferson County led to the recovery of a stolen trailer and the arrest of the suspect.

Bula’s life began on September 25, 1916 in Argonia, KS.  She was the daughter of John and Eva (Dine) Wilcox. 

 Bula was united in marriage to Edward M. Good on December 10, 1939 at the family home in Mulvane.  She was a graduate of the Wesley School of Nursing and met Edward when he was her patient in Wichita. 

 Edward and Bula moved to his hometown of Marion and Bula worked the majority of her career as a nurse at St. Luke’s Hospital in Marion. 

 She was a faithful member of the Eastmoor United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women.  Bula was active in the Coterie Club and the Stitch and Chatter Club.  She was a gifted quilter and had cataloged over 100 of her 100 quilts.  Bula was a Red Cross swimming instructor volunteer and there is even a story of her piloting a biplane in her early years. 

 Her greatest joy was her family which includes her four sons; Bill (Jane) Good of Littleton, CO, Tom (Cathy) Good of Fresno, CA, Bob (JoAnn) Good of Marion and Mike Good of Springfield, MO; grandchildren Matthew Good, Christopher Good, Brian Good, Micshel Kalkowski, Hayley Caeton, Ethan Good, Oliver Good, Amy Yen, Rebecca Robison, and Laura Good; 17 great-grandchildren and her sister Leila Pennick of Hutchison, KS. 

Bula passed away on Friday June 26, 2020 at St. Luke’s Living Center in Marion. 

 She is followed in death by her daughter in law Nancy Good and she is preceded in death by her parents, husband Edward, siblings Burke Wilcox, Paul Wilcox and an infant sister Lucille. 

 Friends are encouraged to pay their respects and sign Bula’s memorial book on Sunday July 5, 2020 from 2-6 p.m. at Yazel-Megli Funeral Home, Marion.  Funeral services will be held on Monday July 6th at 10 a.m. at Eastmoor United Methodist Church.  She will be laid to rest next to Edward in Marion Cemetery following the service. Bula Ruth Good

Gerda K. Tatro, age 81, Jamestown, KS, died Monday, June 22, 2020 at her home in Jamestown.&nbsp; She was born on April 23, 1939 in Weinheim, Germany to George &amp; Margret (Gredel) Stephany.

Gerda, the youngest of 7 children attended and graduated high school in Germany.&nbsp; She married a US serviceman, Charles Bussart in Germany and came to the United States at the age of 19.&nbsp; To this union was born 2 children, Kathy and Tony.&nbsp; They later divorced.

She married Jack Tatro on Oct. 11, 1986 in Concordia, KS.&nbsp; She was a housekeeper for the Jamestown State Bank, Jamestown United Methodist Church and Cheyenne Lodge Nursing Home.

Gerda was a loving, devoted wife and mother.&nbsp; She enjoyed collecting Hummel figurines and making her home a welcoming place for her family.&nbsp; Gerda loved to dance and serving meals and entertaining family and friends.&nbsp; She has been a resident of Jamestown, KS for the past 46 years.

She is survived by her husband, Jack, Jamestown; grandchildren, Jennifer Kemper, Heather Bussart &amp; Jason Rash (Amber Mach) and their children, Audrey, Ethan, Roman &amp; Vandin; Jack’s children; Jack Tatro (Shelley), Jenni O’Donnell (Mike), Heather Learmouth (Ian) &amp; Holly Ames and his numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren and her 3 sisters, Inge Zang, Elsa Olah &amp; Erna Patterson.

She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Kathy Matlock; son, Tony Ray Bussart; grandson, Kyle Baglo &amp; 3 brothers, Otto, Kurt &amp; Werner Stephany.

It was Gerda’s wishes to be cremated.&nbsp; Memorial services will be held at 11:00am, Saturday, July 11, 2020 at the Jamestown United Methodist Church with Pastor Randy Whitley officiating.
