SEDGWICK COUNTY—Authorities are investigating a report of alleged stalking and have arrested a police officer.&nbsp;

On Friday afternoon authorities booked Wichita Police Department Officer Thomas Wallace into the Sedgwick County Jail on two counts of misdemeanor stalking, according to police spokesman officer Charley Davidson.

Officials learned of Wallace possibly stalking a woman known to him, stemming from an investigation by the Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO) that began late last year concerning another Wichita police department employee.&nbsp; 

The sheriff's office investigated in order to avoid conflicts of interest.&nbsp;

Wallace has been employed with WPD for five years and was placed on paid administrative leave, pending the outcome of the criminal and internal investigation.

Kan. officer arrested for allegedly stalking woman

TOPEKA—Law enforcement authorities are investigating an incident that sent&nbsp; a woman to the hospital following domestic dispute.

Just after 7:00 a.m. Friday, officers were dispatched to the area of 21st and SE Iowa in Topeka reference what was believed to be a hit and run accident between a vehicle and pedestrian, according to Lt. Manuel Munoz.

Officers located an individual who told police that the incident was not an accident, but a result of a domestic dispute she was having with a passenger in the vehicle. 

The victim had non-life-threatening injuries and police&nbsp; summoned American Medical Response to the scene. The victim was later transported to an area hospital for treatment.

Further investigation determined that the driver of the vehicle, in which the victim was riding in and had been forcefully pushed from might be in the 1500 block of SW Central Park Ave. 

Officers located and arrested the driver, Joshua Aaron Reed, 20 of Topeka and he was booked into Shawnee County Department of Corrections on a requested charge Aggravated Battery. 

Police continue to look for the suspect who was involved in the domestic dispute, according to Munoz.

Rodney Dean Rogers, 87, died peacefully in his sleep at his residence, Nicol Home in Glasco, KS on February 4. 2021.&nbsp; He was born September 17, 1933 to George H. and Bernice Pearl Benson Rogers of Glasco, KS.&nbsp;

Rodney’s early years were spent at his parent’s home in Glasco surrounded by his seven siblings.&nbsp; He was a member of the Methodist Church and attended Glasco schools. &nbsp;Rodney graduated from Glasco High School in 1951 and enlisted in the United State Navy serving on a submarine during the Korean Conflict.&nbsp; He attended Kansas Wesleyan University in Salina, KS.&nbsp;

Rodney learned auto repair skills from his father and used to say you should not drive a car if you do not know how to fix it.&nbsp; As a young man he worked in the uranium mines in the Front Range of the Rocky Mountains.&nbsp; He was an avid reader; his favorite and most often read book was the Bible.&nbsp; He had a strong faith in God and loved attending church and singing in the choir when he lived in Salina, Chanute and Edwardsville, KS.&nbsp; Rodney liked to read about Kansas landscapes and history.&nbsp; He enjoyed watching sports and knew all the local and national teams.&nbsp; Rodney was a loyal Kansas City Chiefs fan and was so looking forward to the Super Bowl game on Sunday.&nbsp;

Rodney’s wish late in life was to return to Glasco to live.&nbsp; In, 2017 he moved from the Golden Living Center in Edwardsville, KS to Nicol Home.&nbsp; Rodney was happy and proud to call Nicol Home his forever home.&nbsp; He was grateful for the caring staff, familiar surroundings, and being close to his family.&nbsp; Rodney enjoyed writing and receiving letters, family calling on him at Nicol Home, and visits to family around Glasco, to Manhattan, and Kansas City.&nbsp; 

Rodney was proud to be featured in a local news story in July 2019 about Nicol Home residents finding fun ways to escape the heat.&nbsp; He is shown jumping of the diving platform into the Glasco pool at 85 years young.&nbsp; Whether it was jumping of a high dive or riding a bike around town, he was always there and ready for the next big adventure.&nbsp; Rodney was a kind man, took time to thank staff for their good work and share a hug.

Rodney was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Clarence Paul Rogers, and Lawrence Hugh “Bo” Rogers.&nbsp; He is survived by five siblings, Delores Leinen of Texarkana, AR, Mary Lou Berndt, Glasco, KS, Elizabeth Guiot, Wichita, KS, Deanna Bellows, Wichita, KS, Caroll Max Rogers, TX, and one sister-in-law, Kay Rogers, Wichita, Ks and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be at 2 PM Tuesday, February 9 at the Roberts Family Funeral Home in Beloit. Visitation will be from 9 AM until service time on Tuesday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Glasco VFW Hall.

&nbsp;Josephine Anguiano, 82, died on February 3, 2021 at the Salina Regional Hospital in Salina, KS.

She was born January 9, 1939, in Manchester, KS, the daughter of Seberiano Rangel Anguiano and Librada Compos Anguiano. She attended Abilene public schools and graduated from Abilene High School with the class of 1958.

She was a member of St. Andrew Catholic Church, the Daughters of Isabella and the Ladies of St. Andrew.

Josephine was employed at Abilene Printing Company and at the Dickinson County Courthouse in the appraiser’s office. She volunteered with Meals on Wheels for many years and she was devoted and dedicated to her faith and to her church.

Survivors include her sisters Genevieve (Normann) Burwell, and Mary Randall, all of Abilene. Brothers John (Judy) Anguiano, Jesse (Mary) Anguiano of Abilene and Tony Anguiano of Salina. Sister –in- law, Debbie Anguiano of Abilene. Many nieces and nephews and other relatives.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers, Rosario (Rosie) C. Anguiano, and Benjamin (Ben) Anguiano and a sister Theodora Anguiano.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, February 9th at the St. Andrew Catholic Church with Father Randall Weber officiating. The Rosary will be recited at 10:00 a.m. Burial will be at Mount St. Joseph Cemetery, Abilene.

Friends may stop by Danner Funeral Home from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Monday, February 8th for viewing and to sign the book.

Josephine Anguiano

SHAWNEE COUNTY —Law enforcement authorities investigating a burglary recovered firearms, narcotics and various other items and made an arrest.

On Thursday, police investigators with assistance from the Shawnee County Sheriff’s Office served a search warrant on a home in the 4400 block of SW 61st Street in reference to multiple ongoing burglary investigations, according to police spokesperson Gretchen Spiker.

During the course of the investigation two firearms, narcotics and various stolen items were recovered.

Some of the recovered items had been stolen from a business in the 3400 block of SE 21st Street.

While investigators were executing the search warrant, the suspect identified as&nbsp;26-year-old Jacob T. Slusser returned to the home and was taken into custody. 

Slusser was booked into the Shawnee County Department of Corrections on requested charges of burglary, theft, possession of stolen property, criminal damage to property, criminal possession of a firearm, possession of controlled substance, possession of marijuana, use/possess w/ intent to use drug paraphernalia into human body and transport open container of liquor.

 </figure>SHAWNEE COUNTY —Law enforcement authorities investigating a burglary recovered firearms, narcotics and various other items and made an arrest.On Thursday, police investigators with assistance from the Shawnee County Sheriff’s Office served a search warrant on a home in the 4400 block of SW 61st Street in reference to multiple ongoing burglary investigations, according to police spokesperson Gretchen Spiker.During the course of the investigation two firearms, narcotics and various stolen items were recovered.Some of the recovered items had been stolen from a business in the 3400 block of SE 21st Street.While investigators were executing the search warrant, the suspect identified as&nbsp;26-year-old Jacob T. Slusser returned to the home and was taken into custody. Slusser was booked into the Shawnee County Department of Corrections on requested charges of burglary, theft, possession of stolen property, criminal damage to property, criminal possession of a firearm, possession of controlled substance, possession of marijuana, use/possess w/ intent to use drug paraphernalia into human body and transport open container of liquor.

Can first impressions lead to changes in communities? Yes, based on the experience of one rural community that used the First Impressions program as a springboard for strategic actions to make community improvements.&nbsp;

Gary Olson is an entrepreneur, farmer, and real estate broker in Gypsum, Kansas. He grew up on a nearby farm and now produces seed wheat and has a real estate company. He’s also seen the struggles of rural communities. “Our town had about died,” Gary said.&nbsp;

In January 2019, he bought a building in downtown Gypsum and revitalized the flea market which had been operating there as a place for vendors to sell various products. Some are original custom products, such as from a nearby welding shop. Others are used or repurposed products that can be purchased affordably. People can sell items on consignment or donate them. “Our customers say they find hidden treasures here,” Gary said.&nbsp;

Resa Risinger is now the flea market manager. She noted that the market offered special promotions during the holidays such as a drawing for a free turkey and three hams.&nbsp;

“(The market) has grown exponentially,” Gary said. Promoting it on social media and allowing credit- and debit-card purchases has made a big difference. “Sales went through the roof,” Gary said. “Our guest book says that we’ve had visitors from as far away as California and Michigan and Sydney, Australia.”&nbsp;

Through another Gypsum resident, Leslie Manning, Gary learned about the First Impressions community-betterment program. First Impressions is offered to communities at no cost by K-State Research and Extension.&nbsp;

The purpose of the program is to build awareness of a community’s strengths as well as areas of concern, using feedback from outside the community. Once a community chooses to participate, a team of trained volunteers from a similar town will visit the community and record its impressions of various community elements, such as:&nbsp;

The results are presented at a community meeting.&nbsp;

Gary Olson and Leslie Manning were among those who went to a presentation to learn about the First Impressions program. They helped encourage the city of Gypsum to participate in the program. “A team from Glasco came down and gave us feedback,” Gary said.&nbsp;

Such outside perspectives can be useful in seeing one’s community through the eyes of a first-time visitor. In the case of Gypsum, this led to community action. “The next logical step was a program called Strategic Doing,” Gary said. “The extension office helped us organize a brainstorming meeting.” Facilitator Betty Johnson helped the community organize task forces to work on top priority issues, such as youth development, parks and recreation, and senior housing.&nbsp;

One prominent project was a new “Welcome to Gypsum” sign. “That sign was in the works for several years. Sandy Kruse worked on it,” Gary said.&nbsp;

New owners have purchased the restaurant, and other new businesses have opened.&nbsp;&nbsp;“We’ve opened a business center at the flea market,” Gary said. Strategic Doing has also led to the creation of the Gypsum Valley Community Foundation Fund, which has already raised more than $20,000.&nbsp;

“We’ve come a really, really long way,” Gary said. “Without those two programs (First Impressions and Strategic Doing), we wouldn’t have the community we do.”&nbsp;

It’s great to see such progress in a rural community such as Gypsum, population 405 people. Now, that’s rural.&nbsp;

Kan. man with over a dozen convictions jailed after chase

SHAWNEE COUNTY —Law enforcement authorities are investigating a series business burglaries and have made an arrest.

Just after 10:00 p.m. Tuesday, a police officer driving on Interstate 70 in Topeka observed a vehicle matching the description of one believed to be involved in multiple business burglaries, according to police spokesperson Gretchen Spiker.

The officer conducted a traffic stop and the driver of the vehicle was identified as 54-year-old Raynard Walton.

He is suspected of burglarizing Topeka Sports &amp; Family Chiropractic, Joy &amp; Co CPA and HQ Technologies LLC in recent months.

As a result of the investigation, police arrested Walton and booked him into the Shawnee County Department of Correction in requested charges of Burglary, Theft and Criminal damage to property. He remains in custody, according to online jail records.

Suspect jailed for series of Kansas business burglaries

SHAWNEE COUNTY– A Topeka Police officer was charged and attacked by a suspect Thursday morning while responding to an unrelated call for service.

Just after 9:00 a.m. the officer was dispatched to a home in the 200 block of SE 34th St. to investigate a possible unwanted subject, according to police spokesperson Gretchen Spiker.

When the officer arrived on scene at a boarded up home, a man unrelated to the original call came riding by on a bicycle.&nbsp; Police Sgt. Scott Scurlock says the bicyclist tried to get the officer's attention. 

Scurlock says when the officer asked the man to wait, the suspect charged the officer, knocked him over and punched him several times. During the tussle, the man tried unsuccessfully to grab the officer's gun.&nbsp;

A community member immediately stepped in to assist the officer. The suspect later identified as 22-year-old Justin Reed was then taken into custody. The officer was not seriously hurt in the attack, according to Spiker.

“The Topeka Police Department is very grateful to the citizen who assisted during the incident. Above and beyond that, we have all been profoundly moved by the widespread community outpouring of support and concern that we received afterwards,” said Topeka Police Chief Bryan Wheeles. “I am very proud of the brave work that our police officers do every day to keep us safe.”

As a result of the investigation Reed was booked into the Shawnee County Department of Corrections on requested charges including Aggravated battery on LEO, Interference with LEO, Robbery and Possession of marijuana.

The circumstances of this attack remain under investigation.

Applications now being taken for Cash Hollistah Scholarship

SEDGWICK COUNTY—Law enforcement authorities are investigating a robbery and have asked the public for help to locate a suspect.

Just after 5:30 p.m. Monday, police responded to South Madison Avenue and East Skinner Street, according to Officer Paul Cruz.

A 49-year-old male victim reported to police that a suspect identified as Bryan Conner came to Auto Kings Car Dealership, 3205 South Broadway and requested to test-drive a blue Jeep Cherokee. 

The victim and Conner got into the Jeep and while they were test driving the vehicle, Conner stopped at Madison and Skinner, brandished a handgun and ordered the victim out of the vehicle.&nbsp; Conner then took the vehicle keys, got out of the vehicle, and left north bound on foot.

Anyone with information on the suspect is asked to call police.
