SHAWNEE COUNTY—Law enforcement authorities are investigating an alleged theft and have made an arrest.
On January 3, police were dispatched to the Helping Hands Humane Society, 5720 SW 21st Street in Topeka, in reference to a theft, according to a media release. A woman reportedly had her purse stolen at the business.
Officers were able to identify the suspect as 38-year-old Dustin J. Spooner, of Topeka, through video surveillance.
On January 17, police located Spooner near the area of SW 21st Street and
Western Avenue in Topeka. Spooner was arrested and later booked into the Shawnee County Department of Corrections on requested charges of Burglary, Theft and a Parole violation
Police thanked Helping Hands Humane Society for their quick response and assistance in this investigation. Because of their ability to share video evidence of the suspect, officers were able to locate and arrest him.
