The Hutchinson Fire Department rescued two people from an afternoon house fire on Monday.

Initial units on the scene found heavy smoke coming out of the residence and two female victims self-evacuating out of windows on the second story. One of the victims was rescued via a ground ladder and the second via a fire apparatus. The victims were transported to Hutchinson Regional Medical Center.

Due to the conditions, a request was made to bring all available fire units to the scene. Two cats were later found while searching the residence and treated at the scene for smoke inhalation. They were taken by animal control for observation.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation by the Hutchinson Fire Department Fire Marshals Office
