BARTON COUNTY—A Kansas man was injured in an accident just after 8a.m. Monday in Barton County.
According to Barton County Sheriff Brian Bellendir, a 2011 Honda Accord driven by Aaron Gonzales, 19, Kinsley, was eastbound entering a curve on U.S. 56 at Dundee southwest of Great Bend.
The Honda crossed left of center and struck a 2010 Ford F250 Super Duty pulling a trailer and driven by Israel Soto, age 38, Hutchinson.
Upon impact, the Honda traveled several hundred feet east coming to rest in the south ditch. The F250 and trailer jackknifed entering the north ditch.
Gonzales was trapped in the vehicle for approximately 40 minutes while personnel from the Great Bend Fire Department extracted him. Once removed from the vehicle, Gonzales was transported to the Great Bend airport where he was taken by aircraft to a Wichita area hospital with serious injuries.
Soto, as well as two passengers in the F250, sustained minor injuries and were treated at the scene by Great Bend EMS personnel.
The accident investigation closed the roadway for nearly two hours, according to Bellendir.
The Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by the Great Bend Fire Department and EMS service, Kansas Department of Transportation as well as the Kansas Highway Patrol.
