Driver injured, cattle killed after truck overturns on Kan. highway

SEDGWICK COUNTY —One person was injured and seven head of cattle died in an accident just before 3:30a.m. Friday in Sedgwick County.

The Kansas Highway Patrol reported a 2022 Peterbilt semi pulling a cattle trailer and driven by Jason J. Suggs, Abilene, Texas, was southbound on Interstate 35 near Hydraulic Avenue. The driver had a mechanical failure in the steering. The vehicle traveled off the roadway to the right and overturned.  Wichita police reported they did not know if all cattle had been accounted for and urged residents to call 911 if they saw any loose cattle in the area.

EMS transported Suggs to Wesley Medical Center. He was not wearing a seat belt, according to the KHP.  Seven head of cattle died or had to be put down as a result of the accident, according to KHP dispatch.
