Man robbed, severely injured 89-year-old Kansas City woman

KANSAS CITY—A Kansas City man faces charges for a violent robbery that critically injured an 89-year-old woman.

 today announced a felony charge against a Kansas City man who snatched a purse from an elderly woman downtown last month. 

Zachary Locke faces, 42, who snatched a purse from the elderly woman is charged with one count of 1st Degree Robbery, according to Jackson County Prosecutor Melesa Johnson.

According to court records, on March 24, Kansas City police were dispatched near West 12th Street and Central Street on March 24, where they found the elderly victim lying on the sidewalk. She said she was walking when she felt a tug on her purse from behind. She held on to her purse but fell due to the force of Locke pulling her purse from her. She was taken to an area hospital and sustained multiple broken bones. 

Detectives identified the defendant after area canvassing and a review of camera footage. In an interview with detectives, the Locke admitted he stole the victim’s purse and saw her fall to the ground.   He is being held without bond.
