
RENO COUNTY —Law enforcement are investigating a suspect on multiple allegations in connection with a domestic incident in Hutchinson.
Just after 4p.m. Tuesday officers with the Hutchinson Police Department, along with members of multiple Reno County law enforcement agencies, responded to the area of 17th Avenue and Plum Street for a domestic disturbance involving an armed subject, according to a media release.
After arriving on scene, officers located a female victim at Kwik Shop. She was evaluated by Reno County EMS and transported to Hutchinson Regional Medical Center for her injuries.
Other officers went to a nearby residence where the male suspect, 23-year-old Damon Cantu of Hutchinson, was thought to be located.
A perimeter was established at the suspect’s location. Officers tried to contact Cantu inside but never received a response. The Reno County S.W.A.T. team responded and attempted to contact Cantu as well. He was given multiple commands and opportunities to cooperate with law enforcement but never responded. After multiple unsuccessful attempts at contacting the suspect, the S.W.A.T. team made entry into the residence and took Cantu into custody.
Cantu is being held on requested charges of Attempted 2nd Degree Murder, Aggravated Battery with a Deadly Weapon, Aggravated Battery – Strangulation, Aggravated Kidnapping, Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon, Criminal Threat, Felony Interference with Law Enforcement, Endangerment, , Criminal Damage, and Disorderly Conduct.
