Most populous city in Kansas elects new mayor

SEDGWICK COUNTY — The most populous city in Kansas will have a new mayor. Voters elected political newcomer and former television news anchor Lily Wu over incumbent Wichita mayor Brandon Whipple on Tuesday. 

According to the Sedgwick County election office Wu easily won with 35,859 votes to Whipple's 25,557.

Wu will take over in January when Whipple's term ends. Wu's top priorities are public safety and restoring trust in city hall, according to her campaign web site.
