KANSAS CITY —Law enforcement authorities are investigating a hit-and-run crash with serious injuries that occurred Friday night in Kansas City.
Police attempted to stop a black Dodge Charger for a traffic violation in the area of 43rd and Cleveland, according to Police Captain Leslie Foreman.
The Dodge refused to stop and fled from the officers at a high rate of speed southbound on Benton with no police units behind it. The officers discontinued their pursuit and did not follow the Dodge.
At MLK and Benton, the Dodge failed to stop for a red traffic control signal, entered the intersection and struck an eastbound black Nissan XTerra.
The impact caused the Nissan to spin around, strike a traffic control signal pole and overturn.
The driver of the Nissan was transported to a local hospital with serious injuries. The driver and occupants of the Dodge fled the scene on foot and were not located. The driver of the Nissan was reported in stable condition, according to Foreman. She released no additional details late Friday.
