Investigators working to determine cause of fatal Kan. house fire

RENO COUNTY — One person died in a fire Tuesday afternoon in Hutchinson.

Just before 12:30p.m. the Hutchinson Fire Department responded to the fire in 2 ½ story home at 4506 East Avenue G, according to a media release. 

Bystanders on scene informed HFD of a possible person in the home. As fire crews entered the home, crews located the victim and removed the person from the structure. Life saving measures were immediately started. HFD members along with Reno County EMS worked for approximately 40 minutes in an attempt to save the victim's life. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

HFD located one dog that did survive the fire that appeared to be doing well. The dog was turned over to the Hutchinson Animal Shelter for care.

 HFD’s fire investigation team is working the case along with the State Fire Marshal's Office to determine the cause of the fire. Authorities have not released the victim's name.
