Police arrest Kansas assault suspect after standoff

SHAWNEE COUNTY —Law enforcement authorities are investigating a suspect on multiple charges after an overnight arrest.

Just before 12:30a.m. Sunday, police were dispatched to the 1900 block of SE Washington in Topeka for an alleged aggravated assault, according to Police Sgt. Jake Cobbler.

Upon officers arriving in the area a subject wanted in connection to the assault was located and stopped in a traffic stop. Officers made contact with 38-year-old Julian Everett who initiated several short low speed vehicle pursuits and eventually stopped in the 1200 block of SE Washington in Topeka. Everett told officers he had a firearm.

TPD’s Response Team and Crisis Negotiators responded to the scene and attempted to make contact with Everett.

Just after 3a.m. police took Everett into custody without incident and

transported him to the Shawnee County Department of Corrections on requested charges of Aggravated Assault, Felony Flee and attempt to Elude Law Enforcement Officer, Interference with Law Enforcement Officer and Multiple Traffic Offenses.
