TOPEKA – A former Kansas auto dealer has been sentenced to pay more than $72,000 in restitution on a charge related to failing to pay sales tax to the state, according to Kansas Attorney General Derek Schmidt.
Justin Bogina, 40, formerly of Tecumseh, was sentenced Monday in Shawnee County District Court on one count of felony theft. He was ordered by Shawnee County District Judge C. William Ossmann to pay $72,483.90 to the Kansas Department of Revenue and to serve 12 months of supervised probation.
Bogina was convicted May 22, 2022. The theft charged stemmed from his failing to remit sales tax to the department of revenue for the sale of vehicles. The crime occurred between April 1, 2016, and January 1, 2017. The case was investigated by the Kansas Department of Revenue.
The case was prosecuted by Deputy Attorney General Steven Karrer of Schmidt’s office.
In a separate, prior civil case in January 2018, Bogina was permanently ordered to refrain from conducting any business related to the sale of property or services within the state of Kansas. Bogina, who was the owner of Auto Acceptance Center Corp., of Topeka, was also ordered to pay restitution in the amount of $25,775.89 to four consumers.
