Crews working to determine cause of Kansas house fire

SHAWNEE COUNTY—Authorities are working to determine the cause of a Monday morning house fire.

Just before 2:30 a.m. Monday, fire crews responded to a house fire  at 2801 SE 6th Avenue in Topeka, according to fire department spokesperson Rosie Nichols.

Crews found smoke and flames coming from the single-story house.  Firefighters found no occupants. After a preliminary investigation the fire cause remains undetermined, pending further investigation. No injuries were reported at this incident.

The total estimated loss is $42,000, with $37,000 associated with structural loss and $5,000 associated with content loss.

The home did not have working smoke detectors, according to investigators.
